Yep, I had to squeeze past an overcrowded bus stop once and some old crone's fag was milimetres away from dd's coat. Thank God it didn't make contact because this was in my more impetuous hot headed days and I would have had to say something absolutely withering

god your all so flippin perfect and self righteous- i bet none of you drink/ swear/ fart either do you?
the war againgst smokers is boring now. yes we all know its bad for us, we know ok? but actually sometimes smokers dont really care. its an addiction. we started for some reason or other and then we got 'hooked'. its very very difficult to stop. i stopped smoking everytime i was pregnant, but started again afterwards after a few months.
god, i really do think the second hand smoke thing has got a bit out of proportuion. in the 50s, 60s whatever, it was normal for people to smoke. everyone did it. houses were jam packed with families and everyone smoked in the house. they didnt all keel over and kark it then did they? otherwise most of our parents generation wouldnt be around and neither would we.

get some perspective yes its not a great thing to do but there are a million worse things we could be doing in front of/ to our kids

now wheres me lighter....

nailpolish · 22/02/2007 08:23

MamaGod · 22/02/2007 08:31

ivelostmyboobsboohoo · 22/02/2007 08:38

nailpolish · 22/02/2007 08:39

nailpolish · 22/02/2007 08:40

Hulababy · 22/02/2007 08:47

Hate smoking; horrid habit. Can't understand at all why anyone would want to do something that is so bad for their health. And it has been a long time now since the heakth warnings have been very apparant. And it isn't just the health aspects - smokers smell of smoke; it isn't pleasant. Why???

Can't wait for the smoking ban to come into effect - to be able to go into a restaurant or bar and have a meal/drink without the smell will be wonderful. At present no smoking areas are a joke - the smoke just drifts over.

funkimummy · 22/02/2007 08:56

I don't like people smoking around my children as there is a massive history of cancer in my DH's family. To cut a long story short, his DM has been told that although she hasn't got cancer. She is at super high risk of getting it in her life-time.

I go to extraordinary lengths to make sure my children are not affected by smoke, as they have DH's and my MIL's genes.

Went to the cafe 7.30am for a fry up. first night without ds for 4 months so fancied a change.
Sat in the cafe and some woman at the other end of the cafe was smoking. Its disgusting trying to eat your breakfast and read a paper whilst having to breathe in that crap!

disgusting gross smelly people.

Whether they are allowed or not, i think its rude and disrespectful to smoke in the same area others are eating

it makes my blood boil too.
Vile.

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 09:21

it is difficult to stop .. you're right .. I smoked for about 17 years .. but I managed and I have to tell you

smokers stink .. it isn't just when they're smoking, and it isn't just their breath its all in their hair and clothes and skin

smokers look terrible .. you can see the skin wrinkling around their mouths as they do it and they have a yellow tinge

smokers look common and thick

smokers who have children and gave up when pregnant and then started again are stupid .. why would you do that? you've already stopped and its not in your system .. how weak-willed can you be?

smokers who didn't stop when they were pregnant do not deserve to have children

MamaG · 22/02/2007 09:22

yes you get a mouth like a cat's arse. My Mum has one.

I saw a preg woman smoking outside Court yesterday, I thought of spitting on her but decided to simply glare whilst wrinkling my nose

Hulababy · 22/02/2007 09:25

I leave work (prison) at the start of visiting hours. The number of smokers waiting outside for visiting to start is shocking - must be way above average! And there are so many pregnant women, young and old, and parents with little tots all breathing smoke all over them. Have to admit, that yes - those days I judge!

And it is always possible to stip if you awant to. My nana was a life long smoker. But a few years back she was poorly and needed an op. She was told that smoking would decrease her chances of a speedy recovery, etc. She stopped that day and never looked back. If she can do it just like that, anyone can - willpower.

katzg · 22/02/2007 09:30

smoking at bus stops is a pet rant of mine too. The one thing i can't understand is that is is 20 somethings smoking now they can't use the argument that they didn't know better. i think its more the well medical science will be able to cure me IF it happens.

Oh and people smoking is busy streets whne i have my pushchair, there lit fag is just at the height of my baby in it pushchair. ahhhhh

Hulababy · 22/02/2007 09:35

I have been burnt my someone holding their cigerette just in their hand dangling down by the side of them. Was in the city centre whilst shopping. Was lucky it was me who got the burn on my arm rather than DD who was walking beside me - would have been her face or neck!

juicychops · 22/02/2007 09:37

That pisses me off too. Or someone walking closely in front of the push chair flicking their ash and it blows in ds's face!

And back to the bus stop comments, Fair enough if there is someone sitting at a (enclosed) bus stop, then i would stand somewhere else. But a smoker cant possible expect someone who is already sitting there with a child to get up and move when they light up... especially if they was sitting there first. Its so so disrespectful and just goes to show how selfish and inconsiderate some people really are

crispyduck · 22/02/2007 09:38

Passive smoking....disgusting esp round children

trice · 22/02/2007 09:44

The local school kids stand in my drive to smoke, the amount of litter they drop is incredible. I am thinking of installing a smoke detector and sprinkler system to deter them.

I try not to be mean about smokers. They are going to die an early and painful death which I think is punishment enough.
