to be furious at this school run parking nightmare woman?

So, excuse me while I try to calm down..... it has only just happened you see! Angry. Usual scenario,, busy residential street, school run parking at a premium. I always scrupulously avoid parking over residents driveway exits where there is a single dropped kerb. I have just been told off by some van driver's wife (house has four cars parked out front) for parking over part of their double dropped kerb. Their kerb is twice the size of everyone else's, no doubt to feed their car collecting fetish, but my point is, as I made politely to her, that I had left an exit for her. It just wasn't the one she wanted to use. I know tempers get inflamed at these times, but our local situation is terrible, and I try my best not to upset anyone. I used to live on the same road, it's a small community, and I don't want to be unreasonable but this woman was so condescending and entitled and told me off like a six year old with a toileting problem. If it was a question of access for pushchairs, wheelchairs or the blind it would be different. Why should she assume she can have two free spaces on the street outside her house when everyone else gets one? I am looking forward to tomorrow's parking battle Shock.

Oh Op, you should have replied like the twat who frequently blocked my dad's & other drives when visiting his father "well you know it's my car & where I am-you can fetch me if I need to move it"

ExitPursuedBySantaSpartacus · 05/01/2017 17:02

Aw. Where is the OP?

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 17:02

OP if you're honest with yourself, do you think maybe the reason you're furious is because really, you're upset that you were scolded like a child but in the back of your mind think that actually, van drivers wife has a point? I have disabilities and get really really fucked off when people who know how I struggle still choose to park outside my house and that ambulances and community nurses and my friends and family who help me cant park outside my house because some entitled driver cant be arsed to park across the road a little further up where there's oodles of space and walk a few more yards. But they're legally parked and I can't do anything about it at the moment so I quietly seethe instead. When I have my kerb fitted I'd be the same van driving woman losing my shit as well. Because I've paid for it.

We've all been told off and had to accept we're in the wrong at some point OP. Even as adults. This is one of those times you need to accept it too.

harderandharder2breathe · 05/01/2017 17:05

awaywiththepixies don't be ridiculous. The OP is an entitled school run twat, paramedics in an ambulance on an emergency call out are potentially saving lives.

Fluffyears · 05/01/2017 17:06

Why are you 'furious' surely the person who deserves to be furious is the woman you inconvenienced. You would have come out to a clamp if I was her!

FaFoutis · 05/01/2017 17:06

If I were the OP I don't think I would come back to report on "tomorrow's parking battle".

I'm not the OP, by the way, don't all pile on me.

mineallmine · 05/01/2017 17:09

I have a 6 year old with a toileting problem and would dream of telling her off when she has an accident.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 17:09

harder I have also pointed out I think they are being massively unreasonable too. Several times. Smile

mineallmine · 05/01/2017 17:09

Wouldn't dream...

bloodywellhowmuch · 05/01/2017 17:10

Awaywiththepixies I was being nice :) I've seen parents chatting still at lunchtime :)

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 17:12

Me neither mineallmine. I think OP has gone to lick their wounds/or prepare and dust off their chainmail for tomorrows parking battle Grin

Maybe van drivers wife would have read the thread by then and tell OP that Mumsnet agrees with her.

ArcheryAnnie · 05/01/2017 17:13

I hate dropped curbs. Around here, what it means is that people with enormous cars park them in their titchy front gardens, blocking half the path, and in winter when it's icy, navigating the slopes is an absolute nightmare. And even in good weather, the dropped curbs neatly funnel all the little kids on scooters off the pavement and into the roads!

If I ruled the world you'd all have to park on the road, and leave the pavements to pedestrians.

/possibly misses the point.

Flucker · 05/01/2017 17:14

As someone who has the misfortune of living near a school and constantly has daily term time battles with getting her car on and off her driveway because if lazy feckers who think that dropped kerbs don't apply to them, you'd have got a go full from me too I'm afraid.just park further away in future. If it makes your little darling late for school because you have to walk a bit further, tough.

I'm the one being blocked in for a good half an hour each day yet I'm the one who gets abuse when I ask "you" to move so I can get on or off my drive. I will continue to just leave my car parked in the middle of the road while I wait for "you" to finish gossiping and allow me access to my driveway. I'm the one who takes photos of "your" car parked across my drive and sends them to the police and council. I'm the one who will park right up "your" back or front end depending on other peoples parking - if I can't get to where I need to be, why should "you"?

scaryclown · 05/01/2017 17:15

check the planning records online for permission for additional dropped kerb. if none then game on!

Mehfruittea · 05/01/2017 17:15

*"All of them are dicks as no one had a blue badge.

If they're regularly posting on double yellows you can report them so that a parking warden will come and ticket them, or take photos."*

Not double yellows- today was the first day I have had to do this in order to park without blocking a dropped kerb. This is on another road, the main road off the smaller one where every entitle parent wants to park. There are around 10 houses, all with single or double dropped curbs and strategically placed trees along the side of the road. It means there is only space for 4 cars to legally park, before they start blocking drives, parking opposite drives or blocking the entire road. There are regularly 10+ cars and vans. Head has asked all parents not to park unless they have a blue badge, but cannot enforce this obviously. He says parents tell him they will park legally and it's non of his business where. The entitled twats are right.

Soubriquet · 05/01/2017 17:16

Op won't be back..

Or if she does it will be with a huge drip feed to try and make us see that she was in the right all along

Not really. What it often means is someone's paid out a bloody great fortune to have them dropped and as such has every right to tell people to clear off of it.

Well you all sound like a lovely bunch! Confused poor headteacher

EggnoggAndMulledWine · 05/01/2017 17:19

Yabu

chipsandchilli · 05/01/2017 17:20

The camera car had been called to our school a few time's due to the illegal parking. I find it easier to just park 2 streets away and walk than the jostling for spaces if you try and get into the school street.

Flucker · 05/01/2017 17:23

awaywoththepixies I was agreeing with everyone else. I'm sick to the back teeth of people parking across my dropped kerb driveway for their own convenience

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 17:27

I dont blame you Flucker I cant wait to become an entitled van drivers wife on Mumsnet Wink Grin

CotswoldStrife · 05/01/2017 17:31

Lweji has already made the point I was thinking about - that the old 'privacy reasons' is expected any minute for thread deletion!

OP, you were in the wrong. Even worse, instead of apologising you proceeded to make yourself look a twit by arguing!

I recently moved my car because someone asked me to - 'but that's my house, I want to park there'. I pointed out that I would move, but that there is no right to park outside your own house and satisfied myself with the fact that the driver also made themselves look a bit of a twit for asking!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 17:35

mehfruittea I'm sincerely sorry I didn't read your post properly. What I should have said was the parents saying they'd park anyway after being politely asked not to sound like a lovely bunch who aren't going to help the headteacher from fielding off several calls a day from van driver wives Wink

KnittedBlanketHoles · 05/01/2017 17:37

I agree with the parents parking in the road, head master is totally overstepping his authority to declare a road without parking restrictions is only for blue badge holders. He'd be better off applying for blue badge spaces being officially painted on the road. Just saying it is ineffectual. I think you should direct your anger towards him for making it like he cares whilst doing nothing.

Is there any staff parking? Some schools have a system where bb holders can use the staff parking for drop offs and pick ups, could you suggest this to him? Or all of hell give up his parking space (if he has one) for an official bb space?
