to be furious at this school run parking nightmare woman?

So, excuse me while I try to calm down..... it has only just happened you see! Angry. Usual scenario,, busy residential street, school run parking at a premium. I always scrupulously avoid parking over residents driveway exits where there is a single dropped kerb. I have just been told off by some van driver's wife (house has four cars parked out front) for parking over part of their double dropped kerb. Their kerb is twice the size of everyone else's, no doubt to feed their car collecting fetish, but my point is, as I made politely to her, that I had left an exit for her. It just wasn't the one she wanted to use. I know tempers get inflamed at these times, but our local situation is terrible, and I try my best not to upset anyone. I used to live on the same road, it's a small community, and I don't want to be unreasonable but this woman was so condescending and entitled and told me off like a six year old with a toileting problem. If it was a question of access for pushchairs, wheelchairs or the blind it would be different. Why should she assume she can have two free spaces on the street outside her house when everyone else gets one? I am looking forward to tomorrow's parking battle Shock.

As a double dropped kerb owner, believe me I paid a small fortune to the local council for the 'privilege' of owning it - the reason? My sons disabilty and the need to get his car off in the event of an emergency and needing to move him quickly to wherever he needs to go. Not to have to wait for a parent at the school to collect their precious child, have a 5 minute chat, a slow wander back and then spend 5 minutes buckling said precious into their car seat. I am sure that at times it also looked like we had a car collecting fetish (my car, my ex's and my sons). I had some leaflets made up that said 'if you block my drive and I require to remove a car from my drive , that you have prevented me from doing so, I am entitled to contact the police, warn them that I am about to cause a breach of the peace and I will remove your car with my car, you will find that as you were illegally parked the offence is yours and as I prewarned the police I was about to do so meant that I am also protected. I suggest you park elsewhere from now on'. Surprisingly my driveway was not blocked after that by the same person.

I still live on the same street with the schools on it, and I've found at times that parents sometimes park on my driveway if I'm not home. I also then park across the dropped curb and prevent them from leaving.

Yes YWBU, accept the blame and either apologise or set off 10 minutes earlier and walk.

Tinklebinkle

Until the OP comes back and recognises that she was wrong, it won't go away.

Even so, some people won't have RTFT and keep posting.

Or the OP will come back with some new information such as her child was SN, or she was, and couldn't walk or had a really important job to get to.

Mehfruittea · 05/01/2017 16:41

YABU - today I could not park on the small residential street my son's school is at the bottom of. There were already far too many cars down this street and no safe way to exit. The only 'spaces' were dropped curbs.

I'm disabled and have a blade badge. I parked as close as I could, on double yellow lines, but after the zigzag ones. I'm allowed to do this but know it can still cause chaos. I inconvenienced bus drivers who had to slow down to pass me.

I walked further than I feel able to, arrived at school late because of how long it takes me to walk, burst in to tears because of the pain and then had to rest for 20 minutes. Because of so called entitled parents who refuse to stop parking on this very small road, even though the head teacher has asked every parent not to, pointing out it's so that disabled parents are able to park. And someone reversed in to another car today because they had parked like a dick and then driven backwards like a dick. All of them are dicks as no one had a blue badge.

Fairenuff · 05/01/2017 16:41

Oh dear, OP. That didn't go quite as you expected did it Grin

Never mind, at least you know not to do it again.

ButtonBoo · 05/01/2017 16:42

Not sure she does TinkleBinkle.

OP please come back and do the graceful thing and accept YABU

KnittedBlanketHoles · 05/01/2017 16:43

I thought the highway code was that you can park over a dropped curb but not if you're blocking someone in by doing so. So, even though I don't belove there's a blanket no parking in front of dropped curb rule ywbu.

OP?

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 05/01/2017 16:48

Reverse, perchance?

DodoRevival · 05/01/2017 16:48

Is four cars a fetish?

My next-door neighbour currently has 8 cars (and a motor bike) outside their (and my house). Should I slip an number of a therapist through the door?

I wonder if the OP will come back or just hide the thread and pretend it never happened!!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 16:49

I wonder what posters would have said to my scenario. Paramedics that came out to me at 5am because I couldn't breathe got abuse for parking over someone's dropped kerb (there was literally nowhere else for the poor souls to park and I'm saving up to get my own dropped kerb fitted to stop entitled twits that live behind from using these spaces and forcing paramedics to park elsewhere this happening).

OP, I understand, you thought it was okay because you'd left an exit but I'm afraid if it's anything like the tight spaces drivers have to negotiate around my DCs school . YABU. My mums best friend was disabled and had to fork out £2000 to get two dropped kerbs. Because people kept parking on the bit in between but it still meant her husband couldn't manouvre the car out safely.

I dont drive but from my own understanding and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. It is ok to momentarily park on a dripped kerb if the drive is empty as you're not technically blocking anyone in. If she had a vehicle on the drive then you could be seen as blocking access anyway.

KnittedBlanketHoles · 05/01/2017 16:49

All of them are dicks as no one had a blue badge.

If they're regularly posting on double yellows you can report them so that a parking warden will come and ticket them, or take photos.

HelenaGWells · 05/01/2017 16:50

I always scrupulously avoid parking over residents driveway exits where there is a single dropped kerb

But if it's a double dropped kerb it's fair game because they are automatically "entitled assholes"?

YABVU don't park over a dropped kerb.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 16:51

*dripped kerb ? Blush I meant dropped obviously.

happynewyearchum · 05/01/2017 16:51

Sorry YABU.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 16:52

bloodywell only 5 minute chats? Parents at DCs school can chat for sodding hours in the morning! Grin

DodoRevival · 05/01/2017 16:53

AwaywiththePixies27 the OP didn't say but she's not a paramedic in an ambulance as far as we know. Now that'd be a drip feed!!

Anyone complaining about an ambulance's position (whilst being used for an emergency) should have a word with themselves.

ButtonBoo · 05/01/2017 16:54

Awaywiththepixies - your case was an emergency and as such, completely acceptable. Dropping a child at school is not an emergency. Nothing in OPs post suggests there was any NEED to do this so unless she drip feeds then she is VU

Liiinoo · 05/01/2017 16:57

What is it with school run mums thinking the Highway Code does not apply to them? When my DCs were little I often used to have to park about half a mile from the school in order to park legally and safely. It was a PITA but that's what I did only to see other people blocking drives/double parking etc just to save themselves a few steps.

OP I am afraid I agree with most other posters - YABU.

MadMags · 05/01/2017 16:58

You've scared her off! An actual live one, as PP said. An entitled school run mum who parked over someone's drive.

This could have been a David Attenborough documentary and now she's driven off into the sunset.
