to be furious at this school run parking nightmare woman?

So, excuse me while I try to calm down..... it has only just happened you see! Angry. Usual scenario,, busy residential street, school run parking at a premium. I always scrupulously avoid parking over residents driveway exits where there is a single dropped kerb. I have just been told off by some van driver's wife (house has four cars parked out front) for parking over part of their double dropped kerb. Their kerb is twice the size of everyone else's, no doubt to feed their car collecting fetish, but my point is, as I made politely to her, that I had left an exit for her. It just wasn't the one she wanted to use. I know tempers get inflamed at these times, but our local situation is terrible, and I try my best not to upset anyone. I used to live on the same road, it's a small community, and I don't want to be unreasonable but this woman was so condescending and entitled and told me off like a six year old with a toileting problem. If it was a question of access for pushchairs, wheelchairs or the blind it would be different. Why should she assume she can have two free spaces on the street outside her house when everyone else gets one? I am looking forward to tomorrow's parking battle Shock.

*making out

KnittedBlanketHoles · 05/01/2017 17:40

*actually, I'll butt out now, I don't know the ins and outs and don't want to upset you with my theoretical musings when you have enough to deal with.

KnittedBlanketHoles · 05/01/2017 17:41

All of hell??? Ask if he'll...

LizB62A · 05/01/2017 17:44

It's a dropped kerb which gives them right of way to their drive. It's NOT a parking space.
You're a typical school run driver..............

The OP has left the scene.

PatMullins · 05/01/2017 17:50

I have a wide dropped kerb and I'd tell you to fuck right off if you parked over half

NoFucksImAQueen · 05/01/2017 17:52

What!? It's her fucking drive. How can you possibly think you are in the right here

riceuten · 05/01/2017 17:53

School parking always raises the blood pressure of all concerned. I live next door to a school, so perhaps suffer more than most. For one, people will always erroneously believe they have an absolute right to park directly outside their house. If someone is genuinely only 5 minutes parking me in, or inconveniencing me then generally I will let it go. It never is, though. 5 mins walk with a full grown adult becomes 15 minutes with multiple detours with an inquisitive toddler (in both directions). I have even had a hysterical mum park us in whilst she played on her phone and the kids sang along with a CD - I got the full eye roll and gasps of exasperation when I asked them to move the car momentarily so we could get ours out. They sat in the car for 20 minutes prior to this, despite being 5 minutes walk away from the school.

PizzaPower · 05/01/2017 17:55

Well aren't you the entitled on OP

iamamickey · 05/01/2017 18:02

Did the resident take the OP captive????

hefzi · 05/01/2017 18:02

Light blue touchpaper and then retire, OP Grin?

galaxygirl45 · 05/01/2017 18:04

We had a dropped kerb when we lived in town. We had to get planning permission and pay for it, so we could park outside our house. It was the most stupid decision we ever made, as it made it easier for other cars to pull across it and use the shop on the corner. I had an absolute screaming fit the one day as I was trying to get DD to the Doctors and couldn't get off the drive......I'm not ashamed to say I kicked the car several times, and if I'd have had a hammer I'd have smashed it to pieces. The poor man that owned the shop was well used to me running in screaming abuse at the prat that was blocking me in. We moved shortly after!! YABU. It's their drive, don't block it.

ILoveAntButHateDec · 05/01/2017 18:05

OP parks on a dropped kerb. Owner of house tells her off and OP flounces to MN in the hope that everyone else will side with her parking illegally. Ok then..... Do come back and drip feed OP.

Biscuit

3/10 for effort.

This has to be made up.

TheFairyCaravan · 05/01/2017 18:08

I think OP is hiding behind a van somewhere!

SoDownSoGone · 05/01/2017 18:11

One of our neighbours paid the council 2.5k to extend their single dropped kerb to a double. So I think YABU people pay for that privilege.

Do they have a white van? Tweet to Emily

I used to live opposite a school parents would use our private (very small) car park even after a few of us had asked them not to

Nothing quite as entitled as what happened at ds Christmas carols service. Service was stopped and vicar asked if the parent who parked over a drive way to please go and move their car. They had to ask again 15 minutes later and a parent left. I was near the doors over heard the argument she complained that she has left her number on the screen why didn't they just call she would have gone out straight away Shock Hmm

FrancineSmith · 05/01/2017 18:15

YABU.

I have a double dropped curb and live by a school. Entitled parents park across it several times a day, either blocking me in or out. Even when it's only partially blocked I'm still stuck - there is an island opposite half of my drive which means I can't pull out straight, I need to be at an angle, so would probably have felt the same as van driver's wife.

The rules of parking are really simple, even if you can't remember your Highway Code - don't be a twat and inconvenience other people. You are not more important.

She's probably sick of people parking over her drive!! Whether she has multiple cars is no concern of yours really. YABU

Andrewofgg · 05/01/2017 18:31

YABU. And rude. And sexist.

multivac I can't see sexist. Rude, unreasonable, and a snob, yes, but sexist?

Angiefernackerpan · 05/01/2017 18:32

I once knew a charming woman who had a long-running vendetta against her DCs school because she wasn't allowed to use the disabled spaces in the staff car park.

Neither she nor her DC were disabled, her argument was "I have 4 DC, I shouldn't have to walk from elsewhere. It's positive discrimination to stop me."

She actually believed it was unfair for a disabled person to use a space designated for them. She was a nasty piece of work.

MadMags · 05/01/2017 18:35

I I were Mr & Mrs Van Driver, I would park my cars out on the road, blocking my own drive. And I would take up two extra spaces (legally).

Because I would want to out-cunt people like OP.

Strongmummy · 05/01/2017 18:36

Love the term out-cunt
