AIBU to think I should be able to get into my car?

Driver's door blocked by a selfish twunt parked on the pavement between two legally parked cars.
Due to mobility problems I'm not agile enough to get in from the passenger side.
Looks like I'm getting the bus to work this afternoon then.

AIBU to think I should be able to get into my car?

Something similar snowflake. But not this car. Or this long.

Police said I could still technically get in, despite me pointing out that in reality I can't.

Wish the. It was an option but I have something similar to this in it (not posting mine as that actually would be outing)
Plus a panel between boot and seats. I'd have to take the rear bit out to get the middle bit out and it's a heck of a faff. Mobility issue means I'd struggle to get to the driver's seat anyway.

Why do we have laws like you can't park on the pavement if it is never enforced? Let's all just park where ever the hell we want Then!

TheWitTank · 05/01/2017 22:47

How well do you know your neighbours? I would very happily help out somebody by climbing in and moving their car for them -is it worth knocking and asking for help (in the morning of course!).

HeCantBeSerious · 05/01/2017 23:02

I'd be making bloody big dents in his door with mine. And then when he claims/phones his insurance you can show them that photo and tell them he's parked illegally. Thens he's fucked cos they won't pay out, and yours won't either.

That's isn't how insurance works.

crashdoll · 05/01/2017 23:16

What a thundercunt. This happened to me in a local supermarket and as I have mobility problems, there was no way on earth I could have moved. Of course if the blue badge spaces weren't abused by atrocious cunts, I never would have had this issue. A very kind stranger climbed through and drove it out for me. Do you know any neighbours?

Also, your dogs are gorgeous. :)

Breagha85 · 05/01/2017 23:17

Not mine crash. My dogs and tailgate guard are distinctive so I posted some "models" to avoid outing.

Oh I see. Well, I'm sure your dogs are cute too. Grin

BoomBoomsCousin · 05/01/2017 23:22

We have laws like you can't park on the pavement in some places (not all) because it stops people walking down the pavement and can cause damage to the pavement. We don't have those laws so people can use the pavement as an extension of their drive to get access to their cars.

The Megan driver is still an asshole, and I think the police should tow the car because it's blocking the pavement totally. But I don't really think, in general, we should have laws to effectively make people's drives wider.

Having said that - I'm really sorry for the situation you're in OP. For all that I don't think the law is intended to help your situation here, it is a sucky position to be in, very frustrating, potentially costly, and the Megan driver has behaved poorly. Do you have a friend or neighbour who could squeeze into the car and move it a little so you can access it?

IhatchedaSnorlax · 05/01/2017 23:26

What an arse - hope its moved soon Op & you get to your appt on time tomorrow for your mum.

seven201 · 05/01/2017 23:41

I once got completely blocked out of my car when heavily pregnant. I asked a skinny passer by to squeeze in and move it forward a couple of meters. Could you get a neighbour to climb through the passenger door?

Bettyspants · 05/01/2017 23:57

I had someone block my car in (on drive) by parking in the dropped kerb. I was incredibly lucky and surprised when I rang the council, a 'special ' officer came round and issued a ticket before saying if there was an emergency (I was over due with dd ) it would be towed. This was quite a few years ago and sounds like it was a bit of an oddity. As I hold grudges I'm afraid I would do something to the car....dog poo under handle....I know a pretty pathetic reaction.

ohfourfoxache · 06/01/2017 00:07

I was blocked in like this at work once. Just managed to crawl in from the passenger side (having just returned to work following a broken back) only to find the stupid cow blocking me sauntering back to her car.

The air turned rather blue but she did have the good grace to grudgingly apologise - especially when she saw me reverse, get out and pick up the walking stick that I just couldn't manoeuvre into the car

IMissGrannyW · 06/01/2017 00:20

key it.... key it... key it

(don't in RL!)

Out council have a service where you can ring and leave details and someone will come out and give them a ticket. Worth a try if only to discourage it in the future?

anotheryearcomesandgoes · 06/01/2017 04:58

Didn't you post exactly the same before? Same photo as well?

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 06/01/2017 05:10

anotheryear I was thinking the same, I'm sure I read this exact same thing about car on pavement blocking in a driver with mobility probs just a few days ago?! Confused

Manumission · 06/01/2017 05:21

🍿

ivykaty44 · 06/01/2017 05:36

Shame a flying kitchen can't lay six eggs all over the windscreen, but you don't get flying chickens when you need them - oh what a nasty mess that would make

FatalKittehCharms · 06/01/2017 07:25

Didn't you post exactly the same before? Same photo as well?

It's not the same photo. That was a different car. Here's the thread

Breagha85 · 06/01/2017 08:05

It's still fucking there?

OP posts:
Manumission · 06/01/2017 08:33

Is it?

LagunaBubbles · 06/01/2017 08:43

Next time report it as abandoned as it has been left on the pavement and has a brick through the windscreen

I like your thinking!

fourandnomore · 06/01/2017 08:46

You need to ask a neighbour or someone to get into your car and drive it forward for you so you can get to your appointment, it's gone past being entertaining now, sorry it's gone on so long for you.

LizB62A · 06/01/2017 09:20

Call the police again and check with your local council too, just in case.
Have you got a local police Safer Neighbourhood Team? They should cover anti-social behaviour and this definitely counts as that.

And, if you haven't already, put a strongly worded note on the windscreen.
If they do it again, assume that your note blew away and superglue the next one on.....

For the future, if you have mobility problems, it is worth checking if you're entitled to a blue badge - that might enable you to get a disabled space put in and then at least the police might take it more seriously
