To think some of these names are bloody ludicrous?

www.tatler.com/news/articles/december-2016/posh-baby-names-2017

Tatler have done 'all the hard work' and picked out the best names for 2017.

I give you:

Scar, Czar-Czar and Power for girls

and

NPeter (the N is silent), Wigbert and Yak for boys.

Among others.

Is Ptolemy out of date now then?

:o

Bonus points for the first person to hear 'Wigbert! Put that down and come here now' when out shopping.

you could name them Ra and Rara and if you need to call them just start singing Bad Romance.

Actually crying with laughter and trying to explain what's amusing to my bewildered DH who is trying to watch Law & Order and thinks I am catching up on work emails Grin

GilMartin · 04/01/2017 21:33

I'm snorting cheerfully at Yak, sounds like someone being sick

It sounds like Sid James's laugh to me.

The upside is that once Yak hits the awkward teenage years and gets a bit lippy you can use 'Yakkaty yak, no talk back' to silence him.

228agreenend · 04/01/2017 21:34

if you have twins, you could name them Scar and Mark.

David -posh? Obviously haven't seen the Andrex advert or the Dave channel.

Nancy was definitely not posh in Oliver Twist.

Some of the names are okay, bit some are weird. Yellow?

backtowork2015 · 04/01/2017 21:34

I know a boniface. Tbh his face is quite bonny

BewtySkoolDropowt · 04/01/2017 21:39

Good to see Tatler have a sense of humour - somehow I don't think some of these centuries old names will become popular again..

But who knew my brother was posh!!

Yamadori · 04/01/2017 21:40

Wigbert.
W..i..g..b..e..r..t..

Love it. Best pet's name ever Grin

Bababing1 · 04/01/2017 21:43

Rara for a girl! My dd's favourite comfort toy rabbit, is named Rara as she couldn't say rabbit when younger. He is a boy rabbit. They also have ra for a boy.
Madness

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 04/01/2017 21:46

If I had a daughter named Tansy I would have to double barrel it with Tastic. Tansy-Tastic. Probably just as well I only have boys actually.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/01/2017 21:49

Tom Lehrer used the "silent" thing with Peter, I'm sure - P3eter - the 3 was silent.
Derivative then.

Someone must have written that for April 1st and they either forgot to use it or ran out of copy and unearthed it.

DancingHouse · 04/01/2017 21:50

Isn't a Yak a camel type animal?

Grilledaubergines · 04/01/2017 21:53

They've all sat round in the Tatler office, with tea and custard creams, swivelling on the chairs, and thinking up these names as an experiment to see how many of their readers are stupid enough and sheep enough to use them.

MycatsaPirate · 04/01/2017 21:54

Yes a Yak is an animal.

So is Koala.

You could animal themed I guess?

Oh god. Two of my dc's names are on that list ConfusedHmm

DodoRevival · 04/01/2017 21:59

I'm deeply disappointed that my cat already has a name.

Bitofacow · 04/01/2017 22:00

Twat with a silent Tw.

elQuintoConyo · 04/01/2017 22:00

Yak reminds me of Eau de Yak Urine from Red Dwarf Grin

Wigbert is... words... just... can't LOL it is fantastic! Would suit DS down to the ground! It may become his new nickname in the hopes it'll stick Grin

piknmixer · 04/01/2017 22:01

How about Npower (the N is silent) for a girl? Grin

CommunionHelp · 04/01/2017 22:02

Peter with a silent N is bloody brilliant.

I love Nancy. Scarlett O'Hara was going to be called Tansy originally, it's not a new name.

MycatsaPirate · 04/01/2017 22:02

Npower :o Bloody hell .. .howling!!

Italiangreyhound · 04/01/2017 22:05

Czar-Czar !!!!

Zsa Zsa would be nice.

Although I would think nostalgiacentral.com/television/tv-by-decade/tv-shows-1960s/hectors-house/

Rather than www.imdb.com/name/nm0001248/

DodoRevival · 04/01/2017 22:06

I do like how so many of them seem totally off the wall names (or in some cases sounds) and there's names like Nancy, Kenneth, Wendy and David randomly stuck in the list!!

ConfessorKahlan · 04/01/2017 22:13

Bloody Xman!

WTF? Nothing else to say really.Shock

Beeziekn33ze · 04/01/2017 22:16

Friend's DD is Onyx, love it, and the baby!

Wiggleyfingers · 04/01/2017 22:26

NPeter has got a be a wind up! Surely?! I know there is a lot of chat about names including redundant and unnecessary letters but this one takes the biscuit!

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 04/01/2017 22:26

To those saying how lovely Panache is, over here in Switzerland a panache is a shandy!

We're expecting I August, DP has stipulated that we may only use Scar for a girl if I deliver by c-section.
