www.tatler.com/news/articles/december-2016/posh-baby-names-2017

Tatler have done 'all the hard work' and picked out the best names for 2017.

I give you:

Scar, Czar-Czar and Power for girls

and

NPeter (the N is silent), Wigbert and Yak for boys.

Among others.

Is Ptolemy out of date now then?

:o

Bonus points for the first person to hear 'Wigbert! Put that down and come here now' when out shopping.

I have favourite wooden spoons with names, have just today fitted a lovely new sink, I think it will have to to be Wigbert. DD1 had a big bean bag named Herbert.

SarfEast1cated · 04/01/2017 21:02

Yellow is a bit odd too? Maybe inspired by baby having jaundice?

TheLivingAsheth · 04/01/2017 21:02

It doesn't matter what a posh child's name is, it will end up being called Muffy or Togs or something.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 04/01/2017 21:02

Wigbert. But my phone wanted to do Wilberforce, that's another good one.

I love Wigbert. Great name for an aloof catGrin

Some of them remind me of my A level biology teacher who used to joke that xylem and phylem were a great set of names for twins. Perhaps I should suggest it to Tatler!

ShinyMoonFace · 04/01/2017 21:04

When I went to an open day at a school near us some years ago I was looking at some lovely paintings by the Year 2s and saw one was signed 'Scar'.

My judgy pants went right up my bum crack and I showed it to Dh hissing 'can you believe that someone named their DD 'Scar??!!'.

DH just pointed out that the poor child had not managed to fit all her name in the same size. She had written 'SCAR let.'

I think someone at the Tatler has been at the sherry.

It seems that there is a Belgian / German pop star called Wigbert: top number 'Klant is Koning'

Igneococcus · 04/01/2017 21:06

I know a Wigbert, he is in his 50ties. He is German though.

glitterazi · 04/01/2017 21:10

Wigbert Confused
They've either been on the gin or just having a laugh and taking the piss.

FleeBee · 04/01/2017 21:13

Didn't Wigbert sing that Saturday Night song from the 90s. Complete with rubbish dance.
Shows age

Sara107 · 04/01/2017 21:14

What is David doing on the boys list?? Got distracted off the names page onto the 5 eligible marquesses page....!

airforsharon · 04/01/2017 21:15

HarryPottersMagicWand · 04/01/2017 21:19

Grin kelper

The old jokes are the best.

Salmotrutta · 04/01/2017 21:23

I rather like Uxorious.

It has panache.

Tansy is rather nice.

WigbertYak · 04/01/2017 21:25

There is a Saint Wigbert

SarfEast1cated · 04/01/2017 21:28

I actually think Panache would be a good name Salmotrutta

WigbertYak · 04/01/2017 21:28

"Saint Wigbert, born in Wessex around 675, was an Anglo-Saxon Benedictine monk and a missionary and disciple of Saint Boniface who traveled with the latter in Frisia and northern and central Germany to convert the local tribes to Christianity."

Grin at Saint Boniface, another great name there too!

Judydreamsofhorses · 04/01/2017 21:29

Tansy was the little girl in the Topsy and Tim books, wasn't she, their friend?

SarfEast1cated · 04/01/2017 21:29

Isn't Tansy also some kind of medieval disease?

MycatsaPirate · 04/01/2017 21:30

Oh I've just noticed.

Ra is on the boys list.

Rara is on the girls list.

So if you have a boy/girl set you could name them Ra and Rara and if you need to call them just start singing Bad Romance.

Tansy is a flower used in herbal medicine I think.

Pretty yellow flower so if you want you could double barrel with the name Yellow.

Aw I wish I'd called my puppy Wigbert. Or NPeter.

SarfEast1cated · 04/01/2017 21:33

I was thinking of Quinsy - soz!
