To lament the most middle class, first world problem ever?

DH bought me a camembert baker for Christmas. It's purple, very pretty and even comes with little spreaders to get out every last bit of lovely oozy cheese.

Dieting set to start after the weekend so tonight I was all set to put a brie bigger than my face that I bought in the M&S sale in the oven for dipping joy in said new baker (I know, brie in a camembert baker! That's just how I roll!). But having got it out of its (it turns out deceptively large) box it turns out my brie is too big!

What do I do? Do I trim it? Just chop it in chunks and make a rindy fondue? And AIBU to be irrationally sad? I just texted DH to tell him and got told it was the most middle class first world overheard-in-Waitrose type comment I'd made since the day we ran out of organic hummus when I was planning to give it to DD for lunch.

He might be right, but it's cheese people! Pre-diet cheese at that!

DP got a cheesy Christmas present which included a camembert baker. What's the point when you just bake it in the box, eat it then throw the box away? You have to wash a bloody camembert baker Confused

On a similar subject, why aren't toasters made to fit an actual slice of bread? Is it just me stuffing it in to the damn thing??

IamPoopyHead · 04/01/2017 20:02

Nothing useful to add over here but I need baked Camembert now Envy Thanks OP Grin

MatildaTheCat · 04/01/2017 20:11

OP has gone to stuff her face try some of our suggestions. Hope she is baking in the box provided.

How's the indigestion going, Geeky?

GeekyWombat · 04/01/2017 20:34

Ha you are all my people and I love you all. I think I might be cheese drunk

Can't believe how fast this thread has moved on while I've been stuffing my face, apologies for not tagging but to answer some questions:

  • There was no box on said brie. In fact the purchase of a camembert baker came about because of my irrational rage occasional gentle complaints to my long-suffering DH that cheese boxes are most often held together by glue rather than those metal staples nowadays, meaning they come apart in the oven causing cheesemageddon (and more importantly wasted cheese).
  • Camembert baker was a happy Christmas gift. Firstly, yannow, cheese, secondly it was purple which is a happy colour for kitchen utensils. If he'd bought me a herb cutter or something I'd have been sad, but this gave him major brownie points (he also got me a Stormtrooper print summer dress, some crochet bits, big fluffy socks, Jaffa Cakes and a Disney Pandora bead. He gives good gifts).
  • I tried cutting as people suggested but completely misread and cut it into right angles (ie, erm, quarters). I then panicked and ended up chopping it into bits and throwing it in a pyrex dish (except for the bits I taste tested which were bloody amazing and reminded me that uncooked brie is good too).
  • Didn't have bread for criss cross loaf thing. But next time, Gadget, next time...

Are you supposed to leave the lid on the baker whilst it cooks? I got a baking brie from Tesco and am having to heat it 1/4 at a time as only I will eat it. Why can't they make one person size baking brie?

5foot5 · 04/01/2017 22:54

Oo I just remembered we have one of these in the cupboard from Christmas 2015 that we haven't used yet. I guess we just aren't MC enough Grin

dudsville · 04/01/2017 22:55

I'm now worried that the brie I bought isn't conning in a box. I've never done this but was inspired by a thread earlier so I added it to the shop... I trust I'll manage but here's my question. If you bake a cheese and have bread what else do you serve to make a meal of it?

ChocoChou · 04/01/2017 23:06

Do the Atkins diet. Cheese and meat-fest all day every day. Yum.

dudsville · 04/01/2017 23:09

My oh is a vegetarian so can't just have a meat side. But also, while steamed veg might make it healthier it signs so cold and boring alongside the lovely cheese! Maybe a nice salad. ..

ChaseAvenal · 04/01/2017 23:13

I don't have any suggestions but I'm sooooooo happy I'm not the only one who had a pre-diet cheese binge... me and DH devoured a baked camembert each yesterday! Grin

TheAntiBoop · 04/01/2017 23:23

Make sure the Camembert is vegetarian!

And what is this talk of a one person portion- is that not just the standard sized Camembert you get?

Off to google this Camembert baker

TheAntiBoop · 04/01/2017 23:24

Raw cauliflower is nice dipped in the cheese.

Redesul · 04/01/2017 23:31

Blegh cheese. Can't stand cheese. But what on earth is a camembert baker? Did he buy you a person to melt cheese for you!?!? (just kidding on that part, but honestly, what is it? Googles

I did like the idea of nibbling around the edges

1horatio · 04/01/2017 23:38

I like Brie and I like Camembert.
But what is a Camembert baker,,,,? A man that bakes your Camembert?😂

I'll have to google that.

Blacksox · 04/01/2017 23:39

My dh got TWO bakers for Christmas - one for Camembert and one for Brie.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 04/01/2017 23:40

Geeky,

"Cheesemageddon" Grin Genius term. Am pinching that.

TheAntiBoop · 04/01/2017 23:40

Having googled - that is the kind of product that makes me think of the last days of Rome

1horatio · 04/01/2017 23:46

Don't you have an other dish you can use? Put it in a dish you may use to make pasta bake or similar things?

Inertia · 04/01/2017 23:47

HicDraconis had the answer to this upthread- if you cut a cross (ie 2 strips at right right angles to one another) out of the centre, you'd be left with 4 quadrants of the circle to fit into the dish. Don't give up on the dish now!

Spam88 · 04/01/2017 23:53

henna you're just doing it wrong, the whole thing is a single portion Grin

christinarossetti · 05/01/2017 00:01

The cheesy bread thing on Facebook is awesome, especially on a camp fire.

Bit off topic, but needed to be said.

glitterazi · 05/01/2017 00:25

Camembert baker? Bakey thing that cooks cheese? This is a thing?! I now need one. screw stupid body being intolerant to too much cheese, I now need one

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/01/2017 06:45

What spam said! Grin

Failing that applewood do lovely miniature cheeses. But I like my Brie more so...

Asda was knocking all their Christmas cheeses down yesterday. They had all their fancy Christmas cheeses for 25p.

Had to get my DD to drag me away from there because I'm not on a diet and have zero control. Probably should be on a diet! 😂
