To lament the most middle class, first world problem ever?

DH bought me a camembert baker for Christmas. It's purple, very pretty and even comes with little spreaders to get out every last bit of lovely oozy cheese.

Dieting set to start after the weekend so tonight I was all set to put a brie bigger than my face that I bought in the M&S sale in the oven for dipping joy in said new baker (I know, brie in a camembert baker! That's just how I roll!). But having got it out of its (it turns out deceptively large) box it turns out my brie is too big!

What do I do? Do I trim it? Just chop it in chunks and make a rindy fondue? And AIBU to be irrationally sad? I just texted DH to tell him and got told it was the most middle class first world overheard-in-Waitrose type comment I'd made since the day we ran out of organic hummus when I was planning to give it to DD for lunch.

He might be right, but it's cheese people! Pre-diet cheese at that!

I'd just like to blame thank you all for this thread.

Just picked up half a small wheel of Brie for 75p in the Christmas sales after reading this Grin

GeekyWombat · 05/01/2017 14:10

Reduced price Christmas cheese is the tastiest kind of cheese. True fact.

Also, I saw this on Facebook which might be something to aim for...

Is it bad I'm starting a diet already plotting a cheat day for cheese? This is why I'm a lardarse, right? :S

I'd stick it in the oven as I usually do without the baker but in its box. Not hard really is it? Shock

IhadsexwithanelfinIceland · 05/01/2017 14:24

Camembert with chutney

EllaHen · 05/01/2017 14:24

Can I just say that this thread made me buy brie today. A round of brie no less.

I'm just waiting to be hungry so that I can have some.

So, thanks - Mumsnet at its best. Smile

Stormtrooper print dress and a Camembert baker?? Your husband is a Prince among men!

lovelearning · 05/01/2017 14:46

after reading this

I'm munching on Cambozola

GeekyWombat

I wish you and your family a Happy 2017

badtasteflump · 05/01/2017 14:48

Do not trim the edges as they are the yummiest bit!

Cut a chunk out of the middle - scoff it - then squish the cheese into a smaller shape. Bake. Eat.

Oh and don't stop eating cheese if you're going on a diet - just go low carb then you can eat as much cheese as you like Smile

maddiemookins16mum · 05/01/2017 14:49

I think your husband's response is brilliantly funny. As for the cheese, I've never eaten Brie or Camembert in my life (how is that possible, I'm 52!!!), so can't offer any practical advice sorry.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 05/01/2017 14:56

I am so sad. My Dh gave me a self-basting roaster so I could cook chicken like his Nein. I feel stabby every time I look at it, it isn't even purple Sad

Temporaryname137 · 05/01/2017 15:07

Oh I dunno, Op. As overheard in the cafe at my local john Lewis. From the mouth of a kid who looked about 4:

"Mummy, mummy! I've spilled my giant couscous on my gilet" Shock

SoTheySentMeA · 05/01/2017 15:08

I know, brie in a camembert baker! That's just how I roll! omg GrinGrinGrin haven't even read the rest of the thread, I got stuck right here Grin

Serin · 05/01/2017 15:11

About the Stormtrooper dress??

D'ya mean like this?

Perplexed

DorindaJ · 05/01/2017 15:20

Give a thought to the lactose intolerant, I can only eat the smallest slither of soft cheese, when I am on my own late at night, when I am sure no one will be offended by the odour ShockBlush

DorindaJ · 05/01/2017 15:22

#envy

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 05/01/2017 15:25

Try doing the keto diet, otherwise known as the meat and cheese diet Grin

pimmsy · 05/01/2017 15:33

HicDraconis you are my cheese resizing reference!

FemelleReynard · 05/01/2017 15:43

I can confirm the camembert baked in the bread is AMAZING.

You must try it.

GeekyWombat · 05/01/2017 15:50

Jessica Eccles I think he's pretty fab I have to say. Probably for the best all things considered. Although if he'd bought me the Stormtrooper dress Serin linked to there might be second thoughts. It was actually this

Oh God, OhGod, that sounds so rubbish. The rule for gifting of kitchen goods is most definitely if the recipient doesn't actively want them they should be shoved where the sun doesn't shine. That said, I suppose it's horses for courses. My SIL got a vaccuum cleaner for Christmas and was thrilled with it. I would not have been!

Loving the cheese chat in this thread (and the amount of brie bought in the last 24 hours!) and feeling bad for those who love cheese but find cheese does not love them...

funkybum · 05/01/2017 15:52

I've just read this whole thread and I dont even like cheese!

GeekyWombat · 05/01/2017 16:03

FemelleReynard Didn't the bread get overdone? What kind of bread did you use?

OP posts:
Iris65 · 05/01/2017 16:06

LOL. I needed that!

dudsville · 05/01/2017 20:47

Ok. I have a round camembert (not brie as I said up thread). It's in a box so that's a big weight off my mind. And ice decided to have with it roasted green beans and broccoli. These will be tossed in olive oil and seasoning with a drizzle of lemon before serving up with the melted camembert and toasted fresh bread. I'm really looking forward to this but sadly my oh had to be out late tonight and is again tomorrow AND we're out Saturday night. So Sunday it is. What a hell of a long time to wait for cheese.

dansmum · 05/01/2017 21:59

Ditch the dish! Wrap the bottom and sides of the mega brie in scruchled up tinfoil so just the top is exposed...just like a tinfoil dish around it...then bake. Hells bells girl...this a pre diet cheese...all of it must be annhililated. Obvs.

beckybird1974 · 05/01/2017 22:10

Remove all packaging, loosely wrap in a foil parcel, place on baking tray, put in oven for 20-25 mins in 170C, Remove from oven place foil parcel in a suitable dish and peel back foil, remove top rind, and some chutney or similar sauce and get stuck in!.....and best of all there's no washing up!
