To buy stuff on a 70% chance our baby is a girl!?

Had scan this morning (12+5). Sonographer asked if we'd like to know gender of the baby and that it looked as though baby was a girl. She seemed preeeeety certain. I've attached a couple of the photos but I don't understand the nub theory or what bit your supposed to look at so they mean nothing to me in that respect!

Saw midwife straight after and she seemed surprised sonographer would have said anything at all at such an early scan & that it was only a 70% chance she completely pissed on my chips.

Everything in my being wants to be sensible and wait to buy anything but it wouldn't be unreasonable to buy one pretty sleepsuit would it...?! Blush

My 4 month old girl was a boy at 16 weeks so I wouldn't buy anything.

minipie · 03/01/2017 15:11

That's a bit nuts tbh Grin wallpaper on Pinterest sounds like a better idea.

If you want to go and buy something pretty to celebrate there is loads of lovely lovely unisex clothing (Little White Company do some gorgeous stuff if you don't mind paying through the nose).

Or buy stuff from Boden which has a really really long returns policy.

kel12345 · 03/01/2017 15:11

I didn't buy anything until July (was due August 30th). But we didn't want to know the sex anyway so got all white clothes to start with.
But I wouldn't buy gender specific unless it was definite (however accurate it can be when finding out at a scan), I don't know as we didn't want to know

Frazzled2207 · 03/01/2017 15:14

I wouldn't be buying anything until 30 weeks plus personally.
I got my pram delivered on my due date, living on the edge I know.

Parker231 · 03/01/2017 15:17

I bought pink, blue, green, yellow, white babygros when I was expecting the DT's - they turned out to be a boy and a girl and wore whichever outfit I picked up first each day. Girls can wear blue and boys can wear pink!

mirokarikovo · 03/01/2017 15:24

If you are really waiting to find out what your baby's genitals look like before you feel you can decide what clothes to dress them in and what toys to buy them, then you will be bearing some of the blame if we are still living in a sexist society in another 30 years. Sexism will continue for as long as each generation is brought up believing that girls are likely to follow X and boys are likely to follow Y.

VestalVirgin · 03/01/2017 15:32

Please don't force gender on your daughter, if the baby is indeed a daughter. It is not a nice thing to do to a helpless child.

If you just like pink, there is no reason why you can't dress a boy in pink. Just buy the pretty sleepsuit.

If you think it humiliating for a boy to wear "girls' clothes, then you should think twice about what you are planning to do to your daughter.

WorraLiberty · 03/01/2017 15:32

FFS there's always one on every thread Hmm

Soubriquet · 03/01/2017 15:48

Of course Worra

Wouldn't be MN if there wasn't

HookandSwan · 03/01/2017 16:09

I don't think wanting to buy a pretty outfit is forcin gender! What a silly country we are becoming!!

Buy one nice thing, my cousin did that and even though she had three boys first she got to use the outfit when the 4 baby was a girl. Smile

Damselindestress · 03/01/2017 16:14

DN was meant to be a girl and his parents only found out he was actually a boy late in the pregnancy so I wouldn't get too attached to the idea. But buy one sleepsuit if you want because it won't matter if a boy wears pink or you could donate it.

teenybean · 03/01/2017 16:20

My friend was told at her 20 week scan she was having a boy, they could definitely see a willy, (she even showed me what was 'clearly' the willy, personally I couldn't see it though!) so she went out & bought loads of boy stuff, got loads of bits with the name on, paid a fortune to have some bits personalised etc, 22 weeks later, out popped a girl! So you never really know until baby is here.

smellyboot · 03/01/2017 16:23

I would not buy so early personally and then just some white / neutral sleep suits. Our DD actually looked ghastly in pink. It made her look iil.

JustanotherMortificado · 03/01/2017 16:32

It's to early to be buying whatever the sex. I found out I was having ds3 at 12 weeks but you can't mistake boys as easily as girls, so don't get too excited. It is bad practice for them to be telling you anyway! Also all the gender neutral brigade do fuck off.

I don't know why some people insist on being so rude to people they disagree with. It is AIBU I suppose

ghostyslovesheets · 03/01/2017 17:23

what like telling them to fuck off?

thesleepystorm · 03/01/2017 17:25

Why does it being a girl affect what you buy anyway Confused

Crisscrosscranky · 03/01/2017 17:31

Um, because I wouldn't dress my son in this Unicorn Sleepsuit along with 99% of people in RL

I didn't intend this to be a gender neutral debate Hmm

thesleepystorm · 03/01/2017 17:34

Meh, the gender neutral brigade used to piss me off too. Since I had my little boy I've realised how much this stuff matters as people have bought him shit saying "tough like Daddy" vs my friend's baby girl "little princess".

These things do matter. Maybe they seem trivial but they do matter. They're part of something much bigger.

RortyCrankle · 03/01/2017 17:37

Why not, he would only be sleeping in it - won't catch the gay from wearing it.

Daisyfrumps · 03/01/2017 17:40

Yes, why not? Genuinely interested in why you wouldn't put a boy in that sleepsuit OP? If you love it so much? It's cute for all babies :)

Parker231 · 03/01/2017 17:46

Why would you not put a boy in the unicorn sleep suit? I hate gender type clothes. It's a baby - put them in whatever you like but don't let the pink or blue rule apply!

Artandco · 03/01/2017 17:47

I would put any baby in that sleepsuit

But yes do bare in mind don't buy all one colour. For example my niece has bright red/ ginger hair, she doesn't suit wearing bright pink or red at all as it makes her look washed out as so pale. Looks far nice in navy or purple or white

BaublesandBells · 03/01/2017 17:49

I did, we were told 85% it was a boy at 13 weeks. It was verrrrry obvious though! Got it confirmed again at 17 weeks.
