Foxbat

We are in New Hampshire, outside its a blizzard, 2-3" of snow per hour. 50mph gusts and -15 windchill. My 16 year old DS has been wanting a ATV (normal for kids over here)

We live in the middle of nowhere (25 miles to the corner shop) 4miles to the nearest tarmac road. I told him he can have one only once he has learned to repair it in the worst possible conditions.....because that's when shit happens.

Soo we have just spent the last hour outside in the snow storm changing tires and spark plugs.

Was I too harsh?

What's a fox bat and what's an ATV?

I have no idea what most of that means.

What I understand though is that you want him to be safe and deal with shit if it happens.
That is fine.

Is ATV an all terrain vehicle? Like at the end of The Shining?

I think it's very sensible. If the ATV breaks down and he's miles from anywhere, fair enough.

I saw a foxbat once in the zoo in Boston. It was feeding time. Almost made me a vegetarian.

Is an ATV safer than a car/truck? Wouldn't you just get him his licence and lessons and have him drive your truck? But maybe it works differently where you live.

I guess an ATV (all terrain vehicle) is what we call a Quad Bike? And maybe a Foxbat is an enclosed snow vehicle?

Anyway, OP, I think you're absolutely right to ensure he knows how to fix any problems in bad conditions. No, you were not too harsh.
