To renounce my vegetarianism?

I've been veggie all my life. My parents were hippies. Several reasons I want to eat meat occasionally:

  1. I eat dairy, which is as bad as the meat industry.
  2. I don't have a problem with animals being killed for food. I dislike intensive farming but, as I only want meat once a week, we can buy from the local farm which is high welfare.
  3. I feel that life is short, I'm middle aged and I'll be dead one day. I'm blessed in living in modern western world where I have the chance to enjoy very many things.
Anyone gone this way too?

Eat what you want, don't follow a dietary preference as a homage to your folks. I'm vegetarian, my children are not.if they chose to be vegetarian I'd like it to be an active choice.most of us are fortunate to have choice of food and if one wants that to include mat, well fair enough

I do home killed and locally slaughtered meats/game only - if I couldn't I'd probably be veggie too...

Why do you want to eat meat?

I'm veggie but wouldn't have a problem with you eating meat for those reasons! You find it ethically fine, so go for it. It's the people who can't face the fact that their steak used to be a cow that I find hypocritical and annoying.

Your reasons seem sound to me. Fwiw I was veggie for 12 years but started eating it again when breastfeeding DS and put on a restricted diet on account of his allergies (milk, eggs, nuts, soy, sesame, shellfish). Even though I'm no longer breastfeeding him I've carried on eating meat as I can't be bothered cooking multiple meals.
