For being disappointed in the bear hunt adaptation?

Was so looking forward to seeing it on Tv, but it was well rubbish really. I know the original story had little to it, but why the need to add in Grandpa do we really need to be miserable at christmas? It's supposed to be a cute happy adventure story and I feel like I've just sat and watched a sob story? Was it just me?

My 4 year old was so looking forward to seeing it. By the end credits he was crying and said "I don't want to ever see it ever again. It made me so sad." He felt very sorry for the bear.

I quite liked the majority of it, but thought it needed Rosie sneaking out to see the bear again at the end, or the bear coming back to see her.

I loved it actually. It don't like the book at all - really boring. I thought it had an extra dimension. I agree that it seems cliche tobhave a sad undertone but it made it worthwhile for me

I was coming on to see if anyone had posted. What a fucking miserable ending. It started out well. I could live with the storyline. But why didn't the imaginary bear turn back into Baby's teddy at the end? No, we had a poor, sick, neglected bear staring sadly at the moon. Fuck sake. DC in tears

My 13 year old thought it was very sad and couldn't believe it ended with the bear all alone

I thought it was far too long and slow for a preschooler to pay attention to

We loved the way it was animated but yes, too miserable and ending for the bear for it to be enjoyable.

Why did we have to have a dead Grandpa? And yes I was fully expecting Rosie to go back to see the bear or for the bear to go back to the cave and his bear family to be there. I don't need everything to be happy clappy but these days it seems like everything is designed to bring a bit of misery into your life.

Another thumbs down from our house! My 6 year old can't stop crying about the lonely bear.

Mind you, The Snowman has a pretty downbeat ending and I'd been saying earlier that they wouldn't have that these days - they wouldn't trust children to be able to cope with a sad ending. How wrong I was!

It was awful. Very depressing for Christmas Eve. DD ended up in tears for the bear.

Really glad it wasn't just me it's certainly not a christmassy happy story. Sad Just feel bad because the book had great potential for an adaptation but why they felt the need to depress us all with a miserable ending and a recently dead relative. Feel quite cross for what they have done to the story actually.

Phew- I was just feeling bad we missed it. Sounds like a good miss. Lay year I showed DD (then 2) the sainsburys advert with mog where everything goes wrong- she cried for about 15 minutes and any time she saw any hint of the advert again.

Well my two 5 yo's loved it. Sat in silence for the entire time glued to the screen. Mind you, they're both a bit obsessed with death (I blame Disney and all their orphaned princesses...)

I'm glad we didn't watch it then! My 6yo can't watch the snowman or the snow dog as they are too sad so this sounds definitely off limits!

It's my 3 year old's favourite book but he and my 4 year old were in bed at 6:30 so I was going to let them watch tomorrow. I don't think I will now after what's been said about it here!

Oh soworried2000 am sending hugs and mince pies your way hope you are all ok. It really was quite cruel you think you would be safe with watching I would never have imagined it would need a trigger warning.

But in the book, the bear seems a bit scary - or so my son thinks, which is why he likes it. You're pleased he hasn't eaten the children. It's the same with the board game - you're trying to get home before the scary bear catches you. In the film, he is a 'good bear' and so it is sad that the children run away from him until he is all by himself. All it needed was for the bear to have someone at the end - perhaps even the dog - for it to have been a success in our house.

yy caleb. A fierce bear would have been fine, he's quite growly in the book. But they totally veered from the story and had to alter it for reasons beyond me Xmas Confused .

Just caught it on plus one. Dd loved it, it's one of her favourite books although she did come out with 'aww poor little bear' and gave me a big hug.

DD adores this book and it was gutting for her and has left me and DH with anxiety!!
I am such a big Micheal Rosen fan.
Really disappointed.

Another house that was really looking forward to watching it. 9 & 4 year old both in tears that the bear was left all alone.
I was pretty emotional too!
