AIBU to have pushed in front of the front at the customer service desk?

I had an opticians appointment and had to go and wear the contact lenses for a while so decided to pick up some last minute gifts.

When I got back to the opticians, I released that I didn't have my handbag. My optician said to go and look for it but he was leaving in an hour and I need these lenses for my holiday.

The traffic was so heavy and I had 7 shops to check in an hour plus the traffic.

When I got to customer services, all I wanted to know was whether they had my bag. The qs were miles long and so I went to the front, apologised and asked if they had my bag. Some staff ignored me and other shoppers were swearing at me. I was in tears. My bag had £300.00 in and all my credit cards plus things like my address book.

I finally found my bag at asda (4th shop) and got back with literally minutes to spare.

BUT was IBU to push in for something so important?

Please be gentle with me. Confused

I'd have let you in front of me if I'd known why you were queuing.

While it's likely the others in queue didn't have an urgent problem, there's just know way of knowing that, I've been waiting in a queue myself to see if something had been handed in and had someone push in for something similar. I was queuing and they'd pushed in, I still couldn't bring myself to do the same, it wasn't quick either as they had to go off and check if any other members of staff had picked the item up and not had time to put it on customer services. I did understand why you panicked though.

Also, lots of people are saying that picking up, or returning, or exchanging stuff isn't as important as a lost handbag, I kind of disagree, you have no idea why people are queuing and don't to decide what's important to them or urgent. someone may be quieting for a turkey, or a toaster, but it could be to prepare a special meal, or be a special gift for someone's last Xmas. They may care about having everything perfect for a loved ones last christams and wouldn't care about £300. There's also no way of knowing that by pushing in you're not making someone else miss a deadline for something equally as important as your lenses. Like medication from a chemists etc.

i can see why you did it, and I'm really glad you got your bag back, but I do think you were unreasonable to push in without asking others if they'd mind you going ahead.

In the uk we are obsessed with queuing. In places like Germany people don't even attempt to - they use elbows.

Not to say this is right but I would always let someone go in front if they have something important going on (and have). There was a guy late for his flight at security - I let him go of course.

I'm glD you got your bag back, still think yabu.
I lost my purse ( or it was more likely bloody nicked Angry) and i suffer anxiety.
I Still queued in the shop and then the bank to sort it though.

You don't know why those people were queuing, they shouldn't have swore at you though.
( though it's xmas, people seem to be extra sweary and angry of late)
Least you got yours back! ( i'm not at all still bitter) and as they all say on here, you'll never see those people again! Forget it!
