To request that parents visit without bringing the dog?!

My parents live 3 hours away and have been to visit us twice in the 4 months since we moved. They have a dog which I love but isn't very well trained at all. She will bark, sometimes run off, is quite fluffy and therefore gets filthy, and howls when she's left home alone. We have a brand new house and so I cannot stand her trailing wet, muddy paws in, up onto the sofa etc etc.
Am I being unreasonable to ask them to leave her at home when they come and stay next?

I have a dog and while i take him to my mum and dads when i visit he isnt coming with me tomorrow as he will get too excited with everyone in the house and add dinner into the mix and it just wont work. Im only 5mins from mum and dads though and can ve home quickly so a lot closer than the op to her parents

The comments re having to accept they may not visit, will visit less well that is the choice of the dog owner then isn't it. If you choose to have a pet it may curtail your lifestyle and that includes visiting people who don't want the dog in their house.

We have relatives like this who then moan they don't see us/the children often enough well that's their choice. If they wanted to see us that much they would make arrangements for the dog as they do when they go on holiday etc. You don't just assume you can take it with you to others houses.

Yanbu. If I wanted a dog in my house I'd get one myself. I dont, that includes visiting ones. Regardless of how well behaved or clean it may be, they still (mostly) leave hair everywhere.
