Name changed. 20odd year old DC has just hosted a pre party at ours. After their v noisy departure went into the room they had been in to check for forgotten candles etc. Found a hand written note on headed note paper from one of this country's most august body's. It is an addendum note and asks the recipient to send the note writer their "term time address" plus more, but never stepping over a line.
I have no idea of sender or recipient, but they all went to a school which arranges many work placements in said body.my DC has been one of them. A number of the school alumni have ended up working there as a career
All individuals are 21 plus but I am at a loss. Unhappy the note could be pressure on someone not yet properly mature. i accept I probably cannot intervene, don't think it is my own DC, so just your thoughts please?

roundaboutthetown thank you so much for that ..... my mind needs a good clear out ......... I had read 20 year old dd and now realise it says 20odd instead of old .... too early for me [hmmm]

Manumission · 24/12/2016 09:24

Sorry I have to be oblique so as not to out anyone Wink

Tweasels · 24/12/2016 09:28

I think this might beat the 'how do you cook a cockerel in an aga' thread to win this years "threads you would never see on netmums" award Grin

dudsville · 24/12/2016 09:29

This thread reminds new how quickly a bit of neurosis or being slightly more self absorbed can spiral out of control. A friend once, in a lecture we attended together, whispered to me that he thought his name was written on the guest lecturer's palm. I agreed that something was indeed written on her palm, and that it began with the same letter of his name. However, although I couldn't be sure, I thought it was highly unlikely. I shared this thought with him at the beginning but his concern grew and grew. He developed a notion that someone at the university had asked the guest lecturer to keep tabs on him. During the break he asked me whether he should approach the guest lecturer and get it all out in the open. By this time I had taken a back seat to the inevitable unwinding process and said "sure". I witnessed the interaction. The confusion, that turned into bewilderment as the guest lecturer open the palm of her hand toward my friend and said incredulously "It says gardener". Shamefaced my friend plummeted back to earth. It was an odd and fascinating process that I was helpless to stop.

Wow! You learn something new every day. Just looked up the word 'concreet'. It means to lay a patio when no one's looking.

UnicornInDMboots · 24/12/2016 09:36

It was Colonel Mustard, in the study with a candlestick

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 24/12/2016 09:38

" letters being the most discrete form of communication".

I'd be shocked if a member of an "august body" didn't know the difference between "discreet" and "discrete"

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 24/12/2016 09:39

Can't believe I missed this.

That'll teach me to not go to bed before 1am. Sad

roundaboutthetown · 24/12/2016 09:39

Admittedly, the dc could be female, but all the references to noisy departures and august institutions sent my mind in a masculine direction. Grin

AmberEars · 24/12/2016 09:41

Lass the OP has already said that was her mistake

roundaboutthetown · 24/12/2016 09:42

Whatever, we now know why so many people from the same school get taken on there. Wink

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 24/12/2016 09:43

Sadly me and my December body have no idea what this thread is about

Isitadoubleentendre · 24/12/2016 09:48

After their v noisy departure went into the room they had been in to check for forgotten candles etc.

I struggled to get past this bit tbh - forgotten candles?!

WaitrosePigeon · 24/12/2016 09:50

I've read the thread twice and I still don't understand what is going on.

neveradullmoment99 · 24/12/2016 09:55

Forgotten candles - left lit?

neveradullmoment99 · 24/12/2016 09:56
  • probably the only thing that makes sense on this thread.
ThirdTimeLuck · 24/12/2016 09:57

What's august? I'm so confused and far too unclever to be on this thread. But it strikes me that the supposedly intelligent person ain't that intelligent if they think that writing a letter is the most discreet form of communication 🤓

MerylPeril · 24/12/2016 09:58

But did you cancel the cheque OP?

CondensedMilkSarnies · 24/12/2016 10:01

Phew ! I'm not as thick as I thought as I did get the gist of the Op after all .

I shall now have August (Augoost) as my word of the day and shall try to shoehorn it into as many conversations as I can Grin

Lorelei76 · 24/12/2016 10:02

OP they're adults
Many things go on in the name of, er, many things
Interesting post though
Makes me wonder if I ought to resurrect more interesting aspects of my own past Grin

P1nkP0ppy · 24/12/2016 10:03

Still Confused

Empress13 · 24/12/2016 10:05
