Prompted by another thread in which people are horrified by the fact op has spent £200 on food for 4 adults and kids for Xmas day. Made me think honestly how much I've spent.
£40 on a goose and beef
£80 on alcohol
£177 on Asda shop
£100 on m and s 'bits' and flowers.
This is for 4 adults and 2 older children for Xmas day and Boxing Day, hoping to last a few days afterwards on leftovers as well.
That's nearly £400!! That's mad isn't it.
AIBU to ask how much you have spent?

Living abroad so just me and DH. DS wants bacon and pretzels. Bought ready made veg in M&S. DH wants Rib eye steak so that will be about £50 for two little ones (beef super expensive here). Got some red wine in charity raffle and DH also wants smoked Salmon eggs on Christmas morning so all in prob about £250 but western food is very, very expensive here! Also it's warm out so no need to eat and drink loads!

Shed loads.

£75 on veg and cheese and semolina and gravy and shit.

£270 on booze and chocolate and snacks and crackers.

£50 on meat at the butchers.

I'd say another £100 on sundries.

Fuck me.

About £40.

We are having Xmas at home (me, OH, dd4 and Ds6). The children don't eat much, so there isn't any point in getting lots of food in.

About £200, which is a lot considering we're not actually hosting Xmas Day this year - although in a way that's harder because you have to account for the lack of leftovers!

Just nibbles, booze, a couple of joints of meat and the extra basics as I don't intend on going near a supermarket for a few days

£60 for 3 adults and 1 child.
I decided to cut back this year as we're a bit skint and also trying to watch our weight.
Got stuff for Christmas dinner, a cheese and meats selection and some mince pies. That's about it!

But I don't think £200+ is unreasonable. If you can afford it then why not?

£137 today in Tesco on bits and pieces including booze and crackers
£114 in Morrisons on food for Xmas day including turkey and ham and desserts
£40 or so tommorow on soft drinks and fresh veg for sides and soup
£291 in total. Thats for 8 of us. 6 adults and 2 older children and will hopefully have leftovers for boxing day.
Going out for a meal on NYE and not sure about New Years day but likely to cater for that too as I've got elderly parents and family visiting so will probably be another big shop. For the Xmas food Morrisons was cheaper than M&S and the food looks lovely but not got it yet so need to wait and see. My hubby been saving up savings stamps over past few months so we are only actually paying around £20 or so for it this week x

Ours was about £280 in Tesco, £40 in the butcher, £120 in the farm shop and wine online (not sure how much)

We are having 16 for Christmas day, but only 3 staying over, so 8 of us for Boxing Day breakfast and lunch.

There will be lots of leftovers.

£97 including all food for the Xmas day meal for 8 of us plus a bottle of wine for me.

Left overs will be used for curries and sandwiches and things.

I just need to buy some fizzy pop for my little boy as a special treat since it's Christmas.

£150 for 2 adults and 2 children. It had been 10 days since my last shop too.

I'll probably shop again shortly before new year as fresh stuff will run out/ go off anyway.

Although we're doing our own Christmas dinner, we're in and out visiting in the following days so have stocked up on light, easy food as we may well have had our main meals in the day time and need a lighter supper rather than full dinner, so I've bought less meat than normal. (Frozen mince, and a big gammon to last longer than a mumsnet chicken Grin)

There's been a few bottles of bucks fizz, mulled wine, but we're quite light drinkers. A big box of biscuits, crisps etc.

I try not to get too much as my mum always over catered as the family size dwindled which was a huge wastage on cost space and effort. I aim to get through the bank holiday phase then see what I need again.

$260 (I'm in Aus), not including booze. Booze cost another $100, there's just the two of us.

But we have 1/2kg of prawns, a lobster, 2 sets of crab legs, a joint of beef and a joint of pork. Potatoes, carrots, parsnips and green beans, Xmas pudding and a lemon meringue pie. Cheeses etc.

Sounds a lot, but they are small joints to be rotisseried and will feed us for a few days and some of the wine will be left for new year. I think in £ it's about £210.

I spent £100 yesterday (60 at Aldi and 40 at Morrisons. That included most of Xmas dinner including (£3.69) a stuffed chicken as the main event - the price of turkeys is shocking! Together with fake baileys, lots of buffet and snacks type food, cake, biscuits, chocolates, soft drinks I wouldn't usually buy like J20s and general groceries (dog biscuits, dishwasher tabs and everyday food items). A week or so ago my DH spent about £120 on a food shop which included 2 bottles of wine and some vodka. These 2 shops will last until next weekend but then we shouldn't need much as we are pretty well stocked.

We spent about £150.00 total on the Xmas shop for 2 adults and 2 dc for 25-28th ish but three extra adults for Xmas day.

However, that did include extra bits like a new table runner and two new gravy boats, two new roasting trays etc.

£206 at Morrisons, then about another £50 each at Asda, Aldi and M&S. So about £350 in total, but that's including turkey and several other meat joints, lots of booze, and some last minute gifts of wine, treats and extras. We're having family guests to cater for various days between Christmas and New Year.

I am not "hosting" actual Christmas dinner but did a sort of prequel to the main event on Thursday with my boyfriend, mum and 7 year old. I did a ham, pigs, yorkies, stuffing, roasties, cauliflower and leak in cheese and sprouts with bacon. I spent £15.

However I have been asked to supply the table gifts for the big day and have so far spent £85 on 5 adults and a child. My brother swindled his way into providing alcohol and has spent about £30. If we run dry I will cry.
