My daughter wants short hair

My dd is 3. She's never had her hair cut and it's diwn to her bum. Although I love it, it is difficult to manage as she hates me brushing it. I manage once every few days if I'm lucky.

She's going for her 1st haircut tomorrow and is adamant she wants it short. Now I'm happy going ahead with this, but what do you think of a pixie cut on a pre schooler?

My youngest 2 Dds are 6 and 7 and both have cropped hair (their choice!) they are the only ones at school in their year I think. Their hair, if it's reasonable then their choice imo.

But appearance does matter! I don't want to see an adult who clearly hasn't washed, hasn't brushed their teeth for 10 years, smells bad and has stained clothes! I brought my kids up to take pride in their appearance and while loving to play and get messy always ending the day with a bath/shower and hair brush teeth wash etc.

Same as you teach them to cross a road safely.

footinmouth what you've described is cleanliness and a certain minimal degree of presentability e.g. hairbrushing. Beyond that, it really doesn't matter.

oh my daughter had a pixie cut as a 3 year old. She looked so cute. So lovely. Really framed her lovely features. I got so many compliments (admittedly from parents, not other 3 year olds). As a 4 year old her friend has told her princesses and girls have long hair and so should she Sad so she's decided she must grow it. every bloody 4 year old girl has long hair.

Pity.

speak true enough.

noeffingidea · 24/12/2016 16:19

andnowitsseven it's unusual here at the moment, at least in the case of children.
That's all the more reason to allow and support girls to make their own decisions re their hairstyle. There is absolutely no real reason for a girl or woman to have long hair , or for boys/men to have short hair. Why does it matter?

AndNowItsSeven · 24/12/2016 17:03

Speak yes in the uk, noeffing I didn't say it mattered . I said I didn't think really short hair looks nice on girls.
That may be influenced by the fact that I live long hair is the norm.

AndNowItsSeven · 24/12/2016 17:03

*where.

witsender · 24/12/2016 22:10

I'm amazed that there is some sector of the country where a certain length hair is so the norm that short hair is seen as an oddity!

I had long hair, chopped all off about 5 years ago. I buzzed it back a bit with the trimmers a couple of days ago actually as couldn't be arsed with trying to get an appointment for a trim. There is nothing inherently feminine about long hair. And a 3 year old doesn't have to worry about that anyway! Not that anyone does...But especially at 3.

We have taught both kids to wash, brush teeth etc. But what they choose to do with their hair is up to them asong as it is clean.

I was thinking the same wit surely it's just pp not being very observant
