WIBU to fly with an upset stomach?

Genuine question here, have absolutely no idea what to do. I don't feel unwell, so no idea what the cause is, so can't rule out if it can be passed on.

Going away for Christmas, DC are really excited. I can't wait either. We leave early hours tomorrow.

If I still have it, does that mean I can't go? Confused I don't know what to do Sad it would seriously ruin this Christmas and I don't know if I'll ever be forgiven!

Would you go?

What is that's wrong?

I get the runs before flying. Due to stress. I don't like flying and all the organising before hand stresses me out. Definitely not contagious. It usually settles by the time I am actually on the flight.

LotsoNumbers · 19/12/2016 06:56

If it was just diarrhoea I'd probably just take some Immodium and go. Sickness and diarrhoea not so sure!

superram · 19/12/2016 06:57

Yes I would. I would take Imodium wash my hands like there is no tomorrow and take anti bac gel. I wouldn't let my kids down. It could be food related rather than a bug.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 19/12/2016 06:58

I think diarrhoea without other symptoms could be lots of things, not necessarily a bug. I get it often depending on my diet. Unfortunately though if you get sickness as well, or a fever etc, then really no - you shouldn't be flying. Although it's an absolutely awful situation.

Millionsmom · 19/12/2016 06:59

How long have you had the upset tummy? If it's more than 48 hours, then I'd take sone immodium, a pack for the plane, large ziploc bags and loads of anti bac wipes.

ShirtAndTie · 19/12/2016 06:59

I'm not nervous at all, so definitely not that. I'm normally fine.

It's either food/bug.

But you don't feel ill?

I would go. It could be excitement.

ShirtAndTie · 19/12/2016 07:05

Nope, don't feel ill. I've had it since last night, been up most the night. Just stomach pains.

JacquesHammer · 19/12/2016 07:06

If you are absolutely 100% sure you're not contagious then travel

If not then YWBU

ShirtAndTie · 19/12/2016 07:12

I can't be 100%?

OP posts:
JacquesHammer · 19/12/2016 07:14

The honestly yes I think you would be unreasonable to fly and potentially pass it on.

MissClarke86 · 19/12/2016 07:22

Oh just go. There'll be other people on that flight with contagious bugs, knowingly or not (AFAIK a lot of bugs are more contagious before or after symptoms).

Just be as careful as possible with hygiene, I really wouldn't ruin your Christmas over it unless you're vomiting as well.

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 19/12/2016 07:24

I'm another saying go, diarrhea on its own with no nausea or vomiting sounds unlikely to be a bug, so dose yourself up on Loperamide and have a great time Smile
Planes are filthy germ ridden hovels anyway!

SoupDragon · 19/12/2016 07:29

How long is the flight?

JacquesHammer · 19/12/2016 07:31

knowingly or not there a difference between being contagious with no symptoms and knowingly travelling with potential contagious bugs

eurochick · 19/12/2016 07:33

If no vomiting, go but be scrupulous with hand hygiene in the airport and on the plane.

lovelearning · 19/12/2016 07:33

I don't know what to do

ShirtAndTie, seek the advice of a pharmacist.

ShirtAndTie · 19/12/2016 07:33

Around 3 hrs 40 mins.

Great, thank you!

Artandco · 19/12/2016 07:37

I think you have two options

  1. eat little and plain food today and see how you are my midnight tonight.

  2. if still dodgy stomach send Dh with children tomorrow and rebook your flight for in a few days. If your still ill go to gp who will write you a too sick to fly letter so you can claim original flight costs back on insurance.

kilmuir · 19/12/2016 07:39

Hope there is not a queue for toilet on plane! That would be my main worry

sonjadog · 19/12/2016 07:39

Just go. There will be all kinds of bugs on the plane at this time of year. It is one of the hazards of winter travel. Don't ruin your holiday because of a stomach upset.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 19/12/2016 07:40

Go! You'd be mad not to. Just take hand sanitizer and use it liberally and often.

Shurelyshomemistake · 19/12/2016 07:42

Just a bit of stomach pain? Meh. Go!

JennyOnAPlate · 19/12/2016 07:45

I would go as long as you will be able to wait in a queue for the toilet! If you don't feel unwell and aren't vomiting I think it's unlikely to be a bug.

If you start vomiting you shouldn't go.

notlongtilspring · 19/12/2016 07:49

Most often diarrhoea is self limiting.
Bland diet, lots of fluids and Imodium is what I'd do. Unless you start vomiting.
