WIBU to fly with an upset stomach?

Genuine question here, have absolutely no idea what to do. I don't feel unwell, so no idea what the cause is, so can't rule out if it can be passed on.

Going away for Christmas, DC are really excited. I can't wait either. We leave early hours tomorrow.

If I still have it, does that mean I can't go? Confused I don't know what to do Sad it would seriously ruin this Christmas and I don't know if I'll ever be forgiven!

Would you go?

It is unlikely to be airborne anyway. The only time I ever get sick is from a plane, I think most people know it is germy and act accordingly.

Frazzled2207 · 19/12/2016 08:02

Ok so not a massively long flight. I would take immodium and hope for the best as long as you're not vomiting. You could be much better tomorrow.

SoupDragon · 19/12/2016 08:04

Short haul and no vomiting, I would go and be scrupulous with hygiene. I probably wouldn't eat at all today either.

Della1 · 19/12/2016 08:07

I would starve it off...don't eat today. Drink only water and see how you feel tonight

Fishcakey · 19/12/2016 08:09

Diarrhoea can be caused by so many things. What the others said - starve yourself, take Imodium and go. If you were vomiting I would say no way but it could just be excitement. I have IBS and anything sets me off!

Mouikey · 19/12/2016 08:13

I was at the airport yesterday and a child clearly had d&v in the airport toilet (child's changing). I felt terrible for the dad (who was looking after the child) but also bad for the cleaner and anyone else that would go near that loo... I also wondered whether they made the flight - hopefully not because the whole plane would have got it!!! I hope they are well now!

As others have said if it's 'just' the runs and it's short haul, keep clean and use imodium

Wolverbamptonwanderer · 19/12/2016 08:15

I'm quite shocked you're even considering cancelling a family Xmas holiday over a tummy bug. Is everything else ok? That's really not usual behaviour

MauiChristmas · 19/12/2016 08:16

You need to be able to 'hold on' for at least 30 mins between toilet trips, preferably an hour - to allow for safe take off and landing times. If you can manage that a travel doctor would clear you to fly.

Supermagicsmile · 19/12/2016 08:23

Take Imodium and go!!

SendARavenToRiverRun · 19/12/2016 08:35

Or not go as the case may be super Smile.
A bland diet today. Or even better starve yourself. Clear fluids and Imodium.
Like other have said, planes are germ hovels at this time of year.

It sounds like you've even something dodgy rather than anything more. I alway gets the runs when I'm a bit nervous or stressed.
Enjoy!

Crumbs1 · 19/12/2016 08:36

It's a bug most likely. You should not fly 48hours post last episode. Really unkind to give a plane full of people a bug before Christmas. No proper hand washing facilities and crowded loos make spread very likely. Give it to the other kids aboard and ruin their Christmas, why not? Phone airline and ask them -you and I both know the response. Better to defer for a day or two. Travel insurance will pay.

MakeJam · 19/12/2016 08:38

Some prescription drugs cause gastric upset and diarrhea. Could it be that? I suffered for months until I looked it up on Dr Google. Imodium and Tesco Diarrhea Relief tabs helped. Have a word with your pharmacist.

Wolverbamptonwanderer · 19/12/2016 08:41

Crumbs you don't know it's a bug, or that insurance would pay out.

Secondly how would she give it to a plane full of people? Do you suddenly start craping on people when you get on a flight, or licking their faces?

44PumpLane · 19/12/2016 08:43

As others have mentioned, bland diet today, Imodium tomorrow and then lots of hand sanitiser.

Before you go anywhere on the plane or touch anything just hand sanitise and also take antibac wipes so after you've been to the. Athroom you can wipe down the toilet and the taps and the door handles and then antibac your hands again.

To be honest, if you did that you'd probably be saving half the aircraft from touching germs as the loo would be super clean!!!

spencerreidswife · 19/12/2016 08:46

Depending Its a bug or not - anti bac doesn't not kill all germs. Washing hands properly with soap & water will help keep any spread to a minimum.

LotsoNumbers · 19/12/2016 09:03

Just take some Immodium now it'll stopper you right up.

uncoolnn · 19/12/2016 09:07

If no vomiting then I would go - could be anything!

Artandco · 19/12/2016 09:08

DOnt take Immodium, you need it to clear out of system, otherwise you could end up with an explosive blockage

Insurance will pay out if you get a doctors note saying not fit to fly.

Wolve - most people would delay flight for a bug. It's a sickness and the germs spread hugely on planes. We have delayed a few times due to illness before. One child being sick the day before but not 48hrs gap only about 20hr before flying so one adult flew with well child, the other stayed and rescheduled to fly out 2 days later. Insurance fine

Wolverbamptonwanderer · 19/12/2016 09:25

I don't think most people would at all Hmm but I suppose neither of us know "most people" so who knows

SpookyPotato · 19/12/2016 09:27

Definitely go. I get this all the time before something like a journey or gathering.. just excitement/anticipation/nerves even if I don't feel it! If you have no other symptoms then it should be fine.

ShirtAndTie · 19/12/2016 09:30

I don't get it all the time though! I fly a lot, never get it.

Thanks everyone. I don't have a DH to take them.
