That's it really.

I'm interested in your opinion.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 19/12/2016 01:44

I have to say, I am always in awe of southern accents. They always just sound so sophisticated, intelligent and...posh (not sure if that's the right word tbh Confused) compared to my own harsh sounding northern accent.

I wish my accent was sophisticated and intelligent sounding .

PenguinsandPebbles · 19/12/2016 01:45

I'm nowhere near Big Ben. I thought we were doing huge, ridiculous "North" and "South" generalisations? 🙂

Or are you the only one with a permit for that? 🙄

I have lived next door to Big Ben (he was lovely) it was the actual bell

I know live further west and a bit further up am in danger of catching the north??

Bumbleclat · 19/12/2016 01:46

People in the north just have a chip on their shoulders about this...

EatsShitAndLeaves · 19/12/2016 01:47

No chip at all.

Again - just experience.

OP posts:
PenguinsandPebbles · 19/12/2016 01:48

So you met someone from the south once and they did what?

If it experience and all that?

KP86 · 19/12/2016 01:49

AVirgin, you kind of proved the OP's point a little. You think your northern accent is not as good as southern ones. Why is that?

I think it's a bit of both. Some northerners seem to feel judged as not as good which is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

As an immigrant, I've certainly noticed that the south is more 'desirable', more expensive, better salaries (which are swallowed up by higher costs) etc but I couldn't tell you why. Maybe nicer weather?

Ohdearducks · 19/12/2016 01:49

Its never occurred to me to think I'm better than anyone else (with the exception of murderers, Im definitely better than murderers)

PenguinsandPebbles · 19/12/2016 01:53

kp oh yes the weather is better

And we drink tea with out little finger sticking out Grin

It's by no means better, I'm dying to know the OP "experience"

Daisyfrumps · 19/12/2016 01:54

Well my dad used to look down snobbishly on "fat northerners" whilst my friend's northern dad had an inverted snobbery over "jumped up southerners"

Both as bad as each other.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 19/12/2016 01:55

I met someone from the south once

Really Hmm

OP posts:
AVirginLitTheCandle · 19/12/2016 01:57

KP86 I guess it's just a personal preference. Southern accents just sound nicer to me. That doesn't mean that southerners are better than northerners. It just means they have nicer accents.

RoseGoldHippie · 19/12/2016 01:57

Never personally experienced this (as a person from above the Watford Gap and moved 'daaaan Saaf')

What are these experiences you are referring to?

PenguinsandPebbles · 19/12/2016 01:59

So then OP

Why ask the question, what's your experience

RoseGoldHippie · 19/12/2016 01:59

AVirgin I'm assuming your not talking about the Devonian/Bristolian accent in that.
Grin

AVirginLitTheCandle · 19/12/2016 02:00

Well there are exceptions to every rule Rose Grin

Willyoujustbequiet · 19/12/2016 02:01

I live about as far north as you can get in England. So everyone is a southerner to me, even quite a few Scots.

So does that mean everyone thinks they are better than me? ConfusedGrin

PenguinsandPebbles · 19/12/2016 02:02

Never personally experienced this (as a person from above the Watford Gap and moved 'daaaan Saaf')

Did you move to south London Grin they don't drink their tea with a finger out... fair play if you made it to Surrey and a massive amount of points if you made it to Kent

I say this with jest as nobody unless your a cunt gives a shit where people come from

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/12/2016 02:02

By experience you mean you are a Southerner who feels superior to Northerners right? Otherwise you'd be making a generalisation based on an opinion, rather than actual experience.

People are people and will behave as people do. South/North makes no odds.

We do have a very South East/London centric media. Not sure that's driven by superiority so much as population.

LucyBabs · 19/12/2016 02:07

What's your experience then eats ?
I'm not from the UK however I have had lovely times in London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. My only gripe is big cities tend to have less friendly people but surely that's the same the world over?

Manumission · 19/12/2016 02:08

I know live further west and a bit further up am in danger of catching the north??

Who knows? It's impossible to understand the internal logic of this games in which we are supposed to generalise about millions of people.

Manumission · 19/12/2016 02:09

^these

EatsShitAndLeaves · 19/12/2016 02:09

I don't want to out myself but I can say I'm neither southern or northern by upbringing.

I do live in the north now

OP posts:
MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/12/2016 02:10

Were you raised on the equator? Confused

EatsShitAndLeaves · 19/12/2016 02:11

Pretty much Grin
