AIBU to wonder if people really wait until Christmas Day?

We have sent some Christmas presents that have arrived with family. Only very little things, nothing grant or expensive. Received a text to say "they're under the tree, can't wait to open them on Christmas Day" and I wondered if people ever actually wait till Christmas Day?! worried they'll be really disappointed as it's just a shower gel and lip balm set for the girls and chocolates for their parents. Would prefer if they opened now so didn't get excited about what was inside!

I always wait! I love seeing my little collection under the tree

Costacoffeeplease · 18/12/2016 15:56

Because if they arrive by post the giver isn't there, so there's no need to open the present for them to see the reaction Hmm they probably won't even know which day it arrived, so it should be left for Christmas Day

MrsJayy · 18/12/2016 15:56

It is ok for aunty/uncle so &so to send lip balm and shower gel ypu know children dont melt because the present isnt that exciting get it under the tree

Costa "Because if they arrive by post the giver isn't there, so there's no need to open the present for them to see the reaction hmm they probably won't even know which day it arrived, so it should be left for Christmas Day"

right, so again, the giver isn't there, so no point lugging the gifts around if you won't be home to open them on the day, that's all I meant. People do tend to want a thank you on Xmas Day so opening them before i leave is easier.

CremeEggThief · 18/12/2016 15:58

YABU. I wouldn't dream of opening any presents I receive before my birthday or Christmas until my actual birthday or Christmas day.

RueDeDay · 18/12/2016 15:58

We wait. DD is allowed to open presents received from store Santa's as she gets them, same for me with secret Santa's!! Otherwise they all go under the tree.

"YABU. I wouldn't dream of opening any presents I receive before my birthday or Christmas until my actual birthday or Christmas day."

oh get off your high horse, you CremeEggThief. Grin

MistressMerryWeather · 18/12/2016 16:01

Indeed, CremeEgg.

Do you wait until Easter? Shock

Trills · 18/12/2016 16:02

Tempting fate in what way?

If opening a present before the day is tempting fate to kill you before that day, isn't it better to have had the thing for the last days of your life?

MistressMerryWeather · 18/12/2016 16:04

I don't think you die if you don't open any, Trills.

KayTee87 · 18/12/2016 16:04

We wait, sometimes we open one gift each late on Christmas Eve (maybe after midnight so technically Christmas)

ForeverEyesOfBlue · 18/12/2016 16:05

Erm, I don't wait. I'm going away for Christmas and have received and opened gifts already. I'm hardly going to cart them with me just so I can open them on Christmas day, admire them, and then cart them home again.
But if I was staying in my own home, then yes, I would stick them under the tree and open them on Christmas day.

Elland · 18/12/2016 16:06

Another Christmas Day one! I love seeing presents round the tree Xmas Grin

wtffgs · 18/12/2016 16:07

Yes - it's part of the fun, seeing a little pile of prezzies grow under the tree. Anticipation, innit? Mind you, the kids are only just about old enough to not rip everything open. Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/12/2016 16:07

Given I'm not 5 years old, I can last until Christmas Day without opening presents. But I don't even have a tree under which to put them - they just go on the side until the day

SixthSenseless · 18/12/2016 16:10

We put them under the tree, unless we are having a family get together, in which case, depending who, they might get opened while the giver is there.

BestZebbie · 18/12/2016 16:12

....why would you open a gift that came in the post for a particular occasion, before the occasion actually happened? That seems like saying 'oh, these new pajamas just arrived, so I'll change into them now at 11am' to me.

MistressMerryWeather · 18/12/2016 16:12

It's not about not being able to wait, I could no problem.

People -shockingly- just do things differently.

MrsJayy · 18/12/2016 16:13

Adult dds open presents from friends i get all humphy about it Grin

Natsku · 18/12/2016 16:17

We wait until Christmas Eve to open them (that's the day we celebrate) except for "Little Christmas" presents which get given at some point in the run up to Christmas at Little Christmas parties.

CremeEggThief · 18/12/2016 16:22

I'm not on a high horse about anything. I believe everyone should wait until the appropriate days to open any gifts, unless there is a very good reason not to. WRT the comment about Easter, I have never in my life (39 soon) opened an Easter egg before Easter Sunday.

Lorelei76 · 18/12/2016 16:22

Creme, I was kidding!

Gallavich · 18/12/2016 16:24

Wow, you oddballs! Put them under the tree.

Branleuse · 18/12/2016 16:27

i wait until christmas day, otherwise its shit not having anything to open on the day
