I don't even have a partner that's cheated on me but after seeing so many friends going through it the Emma Thompson/ Alan Rickman story just seems so "real life"

I wonder what the the writer had been through to get it so right

Yaasss squoosh thank you KARL'S torso is it.

Itsallabitcrazyhere · 19/12/2016 19:34

Cry from the opening credits, bawl through the whole thing, by the end I'm a sobbing mess of tears. DH thinks it's hysterical how emotionally I respond.

Walked down the aisle to PM's theme - the song at the end. Strangely kept it together - not now though.

The Reid/De La Tour story would have been so much better in the final cut than the ridiculous Prime Minister/US President thing.

I agree that the staff should have stopped the brother from pestering his sister - they were being paid to look after him.

Can anyone name an ET role where she wasn't brilliant? I'm struggling to think of any...

bibbitybobbityyhat · 19/12/2016 21:28

Good grief! Emma Thompson is a fine actor. She's not the second coming.

Actually, Emma Thompson might be the 2nd coming. I'd be fine with that, I might finally get on board with religion if we all had to sit down and pray to her.

Every film she's been in has been made better just by virtue of her being in it. I feel the same way about Jennifer Saunders and Meryl Streep.

hippyhippyshake · 19/12/2016 22:15

I'm not an expert on ET but to me she only does stoic and sensible. All the roles I've seen her in are the same - LA, Sense and Sensibility and Nanny McPhee. Is she really a great actor?

justdontevenfuckingstart · 19/12/2016 22:20

She was a bit rubbish in harry potter but i think that was more the (daft) character.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 19/12/2016 22:22

Jennifer Saunders is always amazing especially when being Meryl Streep.

Manumission · 19/12/2016 22:43

I'd go to insane lengths to avoid having to watch Jennifer Saunders in anything.

apringle · 19/12/2016 22:58

I may be one of the few people on the planet that find the movie cringeworthy!

hippyhippyshake · 19/12/2016 23:00

Jennifer Saunders roles are all the same (Ab Fab, Shrek, Friends) but I love her!

SalemSaberhagen · 19/12/2016 23:01

Have you even read the thread apringle?

MommaGee · 19/12/2016 23:06

Oh i love Love Actually. The whole KK thing is weird - would i be that thrilled if i'd just got married and my DH's bestie was coming on to me behind his back? No.

Of course it's silly, but isn't that half the appeal with Xmas movies - escapism. OK so none of that would happen or in those time scales except possibly the ET stuff but who cares, pop it in, get some chocolate and enjoy

Dizzybug52 · 20/12/2016 15:47

Its like marmite, you either love it or you don't! I love it....marmite too!

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 20/12/2016 16:14

I quite like it but I'm uncomfortable with the underlying seedy tone to it.

I adore Hugh Grant though and bizarre as it is could watch him for hours although I prefer him in 2 weeks notice even more

heateallthebuns · 23/12/2016 22:08

Eeeek it's on now on rte in Ireland. I love it!!! Ant and Dec look so young!!!!
Alan Rickmansworth a dick. He totally gets the relationship with Laura and carl. He walked into that affair with his eyes open. He should've been honest with et if he wasn't happy. There's loads of horrible people in actually. Carl. And Colin first brother - really? Sleeping with your brothers wife?

I do know it's not real. Honestly. But. Christmas!!!

Loopytiles · 23/12/2016 22:11

It's just so seedy, especially the dimwit who goes to the states and the women he meets, the body doubles and the man's comment that he might get a shag when they're engaged, and the KK stalker.

heateallthebuns · 23/12/2016 22:16

Hugh grant dancing is on now. He's so fit. Mmmmmm.

Loopytiles · 23/12/2016 23:13

I do like the dance scene in 10 downing st, and what he says to maggie T!
