To get so angry watching Love Actually?

I don't even have a partner that's cheated on me but after seeing so many friends going through it the Emma Thompson/ Alan Rickman story just seems so "real life"

I wonder what the the writer had been through to get it so right

Love it, probably my favourite Christmas film.

RainbowJack · 17/12/2016 22:40

I've yet to see it but I've heard people raving about it. This scene really puts me off watching it TBH. I just hate story lines like that and I just end up feeling angry.

MothersRuinart · 17/12/2016 22:41

I think the Emma Thompson/ Alan Rickman storyline is great because it wasn't written as a huge dramatic showoff with screaming and shouting and throwing plates, just crying alone, quiet discussions and trying to keep up appearances.

Clandestino · 17/12/2016 22:46

I love the movie.
As for the link: I've yet to read something from Jezebel that wouldn't be hateful and bitter. It's a cliche with them.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 17/12/2016 22:48

God yes, that scene in the bedroom Sad and then how she pulls it all together so they can go to the school show, because that's just what she had to do.....

kerryob · 17/12/2016 22:49

Hate this film

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/12/2016 22:51

green he doesn't have a blended family? or did I miss that.

mummydawn07 · 17/12/2016 22:54

I agree about Keira Knightley, I don't know what it is but she just fucks me off in everything she's in, I think its her face lol sounds awful I know but something about the expressions she pulls

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 17/12/2016 22:55

I saw an interview with ET where she said she based the performance on how she felt when Kenneth Branagh cheated on her with Helena BC Sad

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 17/12/2016 22:57

I don't mind KK but she drives me mad in this film 'oooooh I look quite pretty' SHUT UP

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/12/2016 22:58

I don't understand how K Knightley can't act in anything without doing that stupid pout (just watched the ET scene on youtube and she is amazing)

greenfolder · 17/12/2016 22:58

He is eyeing up that blonde Carol at the concert, then they are together at the airport a month later

justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/12/2016 23:02

ok green I need to re watch this. But yeah that's shit.

SailingThroughTime · 17/12/2016 23:02

I love it but I'm awarthat I have to seitch my thinking mind off a fair bit. It is what it is and it doesn't have to be perfect.

ExitPursuedBySantaSpartacus · 17/12/2016 23:04

Emma Thompson brings me out in hives.

I have to sit on my hands to stop me slapping the screen.

Each to their own.

SailingThroughTime · 17/12/2016 23:05

And my spelling mind clearly GrinBlush

OwlinaTree · 17/12/2016 23:05

I quite like it but hate the bit about 'messages of love' during 911 at the start then the little boy runs through the airport security at the end.

I cried with laughter at the nativity scene containing the sea creatures!

Liiinoo · 17/12/2016 23:06

And the sheer unadulterated happiness of Kris Marshall turning up in an American bar and discovering that his accent really does make him a babe magnet.

Puddington · 17/12/2016 23:07

As others have said most of the other storylines are twee or unrealistic or a bit annoying (so glad to finally find other people who dislike KK btw!), but Emma Thompson had me in sheer floods of tears. It was just incredible, if a bit difficult to watch, and made the rest of the movie worth it (kinda).

meridithssister · 17/12/2016 23:07

I love this film, but I would have loved it more if it had just been two stories, Emma Thompson / Alan Rickman and Liam /wife/ son.
That would be perfection.

honeyroar · 17/12/2016 23:12

And the Rockstar story!

The film is 13 years old, I think. I don't reckon many of them would still be together 13 years later!!

QueenMortificado · 17/12/2016 23:13

One of the writers tweeted live through it about a year ago, she answered loads of questions

One of them was about the Alan / Emma storyline and apparently the bit of the girl in the red dress smoothing out the bedding just before she puts the necklace on is showing that she's just had sex with him. I think the writer said alan and Emma "did remain together but nothing was ever quite the same again"

Sad
justdontevenfuckingstart · 17/12/2016 23:15

Alan Rickman, hope this isn't his legacy. Sheriff in boots that's my memory (derail alert)

BikeRunSki · 17/12/2016 23:23

If you have the DVD, watch the extras, please. There are whole relationships cut out of the final cut, which tie in with the rest of the film.
