Poop and tele.

Apropos very little;

I feel irrationally irritated with people who say "poop" or "pooh" when they mean "poo".

Also, people who shorten "television" to "tele" (which sounds like "teleeh" in my head).

AIBU?

Of course I am. Anybody else have similar bugbears?

I know an Eleanor, when written she shortens her name to Elle but pronounces it Ellie. This does not work in my head.

Trills · 17/12/2016 09:06

Jilly Cooper refers to a washing-up machine.

Trills · 17/12/2016 09:06

People are definitely saying telly, not tele.

shockthemonkey · 17/12/2016 09:14

Hardcore is turning the joke around on you, OP. She means that when you said "I hate it when people say pooh instead of poo" (paraphrasing here), you actually meant "I hate it when people type/write pooh instead of poo", since we have just established that "poo" and "pooh" are pronounced the same.

My grandmother used to say "REfridge" instead of fridge and as a result, because of the person I associate it with, I find it extremely cute.

Manumission · 17/12/2016 09:16

Oh gosh shock thanks so much for explaining that to me in such detail. Did you actually READ my reply to hardcore? 😂

Trills did she mean a dishwasher or a washing machine?

OP posts:
shockthemonkey · 17/12/2016 09:21

Yes I did. You said "what can you mean when you say that?" So it looked like you hadn't understood the joke. But maybe the funny face thing was a sarcasm indicator... I don't know!

Manumission · 17/12/2016 09:24

And I went to all the other of working another "say" in there! Grin

I agree! Pooh is a bear. I don't like tele or telly, but TV is fine.

Others:

Text instead of texted.
Companies trying to make their brand name into a verb. If it happens organically, like googling as a synonym for web-searching, fine, but nobody I know has ever said 'I think I'll Argos that.'

tangerino · 17/12/2016 11:23

I have both of these too. Poop seems horrible infantile. Tele seems pedantic and dickish. Poo and telly all the way.

RavioliOnToast · 17/12/2016 11:36

I hate 'doofer' for remote.

baconandeggies · 17/12/2016 11:53

Ha! I like 'poop' - only because it amuses me

YelloDraw · 17/12/2016 12:15

Tele is quite northern I think.

YelloDraw · 17/12/2016 12:16

I hate 'doofer' for remote

How do you feel about 'clicker'?

Manumission · 17/12/2016 13:14

I've never heard/noticed "doofer"!

OP posts:
elQuintoConyo · 17/12/2016 13:21

My parents used to call their remote control the hoofer doofer Grin

I call it a zapper or mando.

Pooh is a name. Poop is embarassing in anyone over 5yo. Tele is always followed by Savalas (sp?).

Was there another one...?

whyohwhy000 · 17/12/2016 13:21

HardcoreLadyType Does that come from Frigidaire?

TeenageCentaurMortificado · 17/12/2016 13:22

No no no. The tv remote is the 'frolls'

From moons ago when my then toddler son mispronounced 'controls'. Frolls forever more

Point. Thread. Misses Grin

Manumission · 17/12/2016 13:25

You've covered them all so far quinto.

I'm sure we'll think of more Smile

ShowMePotatoSalad · 17/12/2016 13:25

Poop is just bloody daft. Poop?! Pooh is the bear.

Tele is pronounced "tell-ehhhh" in my head.

whyohwhy000 · 17/12/2016 13:25

A small minority of Americans call remotes "channel changers".

RottenTomatoes959 · 17/12/2016 13:27

The remote is a zapper where I am,and its definitely telly not tele.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 17/12/2016 13:31

A mate of mine calls her remote the "clicker".

Topseyt · 17/12/2016 13:31

Isn't poop an Americanism for poo? Either way, I prefer poo.

Poo, telly or TV in this house. Occasionally television.
