Think mine is a 30l and it certainly needs emptied every second day, that's with composting veg scraps, recycling paper in a separate bin and taking tins, glass and plastic bottles to the recycling centre. Don't know what we're putting in the bin but we still seem to fill it up.

Caligula · 18/02/2007 21:18

(There doesn't seem to be any difference)

Caligula · 18/02/2007 21:18

Think mine might be a 50L

brimfull · 18/02/2007 21:18

brabantia ,definately worth the silly money.YOu won't regret it.

Hulababy · 18/02/2007 21:18

We always use proper Brabantia bin bags, so that you can't see the liners from the putside of the bin.

brimfull · 18/02/2007 21:19

I use lidl liners and you can't see the bag ,not that that's a cardinal sin

Caligula · 18/02/2007 21:21

You just have to tuck it under, then you can't see the scummy council one!

MrsSpoon · 18/02/2007 21:21

I just use Aldi white bin bags, you can usually see the bag poking out but I am too tight to pay for the proper Brabantia ones.

I wouldn't mind paying for them if they made a difference smell-wise, but I found they didn't... so council issue ones for me.

divamumplus · 18/02/2007 21:24

wow, never know, bin is cost that much
we have little one and empty everyday. kind of habit must empty bin.

Caligula · 18/02/2007 21:25

You can get brabantia bags in the market sometimes. (There's a man who sells them and tools and poncey Sanctuary products - a really odd mixture of stuff on his stall.)

marthamoo · 18/02/2007 21:26

I use proper Brabantia bags if I've done an Ocado shop and ordinary bin bags if not. And I don't always bag up food scraps cos I'm an idle so n' so but I find that - when I don't - the bin can tend to smelliness (but only when I open the lid - the smell doesn't come out otherwise). I just use old carrier bags.

Oati · 18/02/2007 21:27

I have the soft-touch 50L bin - we use ordinary bin bags and bag food waste before it goes in the bin. It needs emptying about twice a week (and yes I do recycle where possible).

Smell only seems to be problem when dh has emptied cat food into it without bagging it first

Eddas · 18/02/2007 21:38

I wouldn't pay that much. My step mother did, asked my dad if he knew how much it'd cost as when mum was still alive he was such a tight ass and he said i'd rather not know!! BTW not a tight ass in a bad way just hates wasting money. Has had a complete change in thinking since meeting step mother and not sure I like it

I think you're just paying for the name. I got a great bin in Matalan for £10, was very excited by it but was still alot IMO to pay for a bin

Oati · 18/02/2007 22:03

forgot to add we paid about £60 for ours - it was on special offer at the Cotswold Co

nearlyfourbob · 18/02/2007 22:10

The important question really should be "how much are the bags?" The bin is a one off - but if the bags are expensive too then yes it's a rip off designed to make you keep paying for the bags.

breadgirl · 18/02/2007 22:15

I have a brabantia 40L touch bin. It was £95 in John Lewis, but i got it when it was special offer in Costco for about £48. Bargain!

REIDnotREEDorREAD · 18/02/2007 22:15

we got a brabantia bin as a wedding present off sil, at first i thought 'why the hell has she bought us a bin for a wedding present?' but - i love it!!!

i would never have spent that much on it myself but as others have said, its on show all the time and is used loads. As for the price of the bags, yes they are expensive, but we ditched the brand ones and buy tescos own!

marthamoo · 18/02/2007 22:16

You can use any old bags though - 50L bin liners or bog standard binbags. You don't have to buy the Brabantia ones.

Disclaimer: I do not, nor have I at any time, worked for Brabantia

lackofgravitas · 18/02/2007 22:16

I'm guessing those people who've got replacement bits from Brabantia 'phoned for them? Cos they haven't responded to my TWO emails and I'm mightily peeved with them. Will have to call them tomorrow (serve them right when they get DD announcing 'I want a POO' two inches from the 'phone).

CanSleepWontStarve · 18/02/2007 22:19

Rustybear - we have the brabantia sensor bin . The lid went on our old 50l brabantia, and I didn't know at the time (just before Christmas) about them sending out new lids willy nilly, so bought one for dh as part of his Christmas present (he likes gadgets ).

Hulababy · 19/02/2007 08:10

The bags are £1.95 for 10 in Waitrose/John Lewis.

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 19/02/2007 09:11

Ive had mine for years and I love it . No I didt pay 8o pounds for it my boss bought it for me . I have literally just telephoned them for a new lid as the old one broke after much use and they are sending a new one out . How fab customer service with a smile .

lackofgravitas · 19/02/2007 13:11

I've just called for a new lid too, so I'm happy now (or at least I will be in 14 to 28 days). Although now I'm wondering if they DID react to my email, and there are two other lids winging their way to me!
