£80 is totally unreasonable for a gorgeous, semi-telepathic touch-me-and-I-gently-open shiny stylish beautiful objet d'garbage (that's gar-barsshhe) in which to contain your precious kitchen waste.

Bah. Want one.

lilgrayfox · 18/02/2007 18:55

LOL trolley

littleducks · 18/02/2007 18:56

buying batteries for the bin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kittylette · 18/02/2007 19:00

i tell you what, you all send me your £80 quid that you want to spend on a bin, and ill spend it on something good

Twiglett · 18/02/2007 19:04

Brabantia yes?

its worth it.. trust me [

Twiglett · 18/02/2007 19:07

Lizs .. contact brabantia and tell them it broke .. the bins have a lifetime guarantee and they just send you a new lid

KTeePee · 18/02/2007 19:16

We have an Addis swing top upstairs that we now use for nappies. We must have had it for 12 years now and it seems totally indestrucatable, whereas all the other fancy ones we bought to replace it have fallen apart (not the Brabantia though but that too has been banished temporarily in favour of one inside the cupboard under the sink...)

smittenkitten · 18/02/2007 19:19

i couldn't bring myself to pay that much so got a v similar one from homebase (though see other thread about disgraceful removal of customer toilets) for £40

granarybeck · 18/02/2007 20:06

We bought a touch top one about four years ago and it's not a purchase I've ever regretted!

Ulysees · 18/02/2007 20:09

Love mine Remember first getting it and my mate and I seeing what body parts we could use to open it

SparklyGothKat · 18/02/2007 20:11

I have a Brabantia touch bin too, I kept buying cheap £10 bins from Asda and they kept breaking within weeks. I love it, even if my dog has worked out that he only have to put a paw on the top and it opens....

jasper · 18/02/2007 20:50

no you are not.
That is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a bin

Caligula · 18/02/2007 20:56

I have one of these, but it's not worth it, because it gets smelly after about 4 days. How comes everyone else's doesn't get smelly?

marthamoo · 18/02/2007 20:59

I havw the Brabantia one Hula linked to and I think it was worth every penny. Have had several cheaper ones (a pedal one that fell apart and various plastic ones which were smelly) - it's just brilliant: well made, solid, and - as people have mentioned - a 10 year, no quibble guarantee. Yes, a ridiculous amount to pay for a bin but in this case worth it.

lucykate · 18/02/2007 20:59

we have just had this exact same debate in our house, dh wanted this , chosen after looking at £80 brabantia ones, this was going to be our cheaper compromise. but i still couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a bin, so bought this instead as at the time it was reduced to £16. the only thing we could agree on was that we wanted a red bin, dh hates the one i got so may end up getting the other one eventually anyway.

Oh and we had a push bin too (like that red one, but stainless steel - was from Next and was still about £40 iirc) and the flap sheered off after about 8 weeks...

The pedal bin was B&Q and the pedal broke off...

Are we perhaps very hard on our bins ?

2shoes · 18/02/2007 21:07

it is nice. my sm has mobility problems and says it is great as she can use it. it has a pedal(very sensative)
Only thing is I have never seen her use a bin in all the time I have known her! she normally just gets my dad to do everything.

But my one's a brabantia as well and it still smells.

Do you empty it more than once a week?

marthamoo · 18/02/2007 21:14

More than once a week? We empty it about once every two days...do you bag up all food scraps etc?

We empty ours 2-3 times a week I guess, when full. I don't bag up food scraps inside though.

MrsSpoon · 18/02/2007 21:15

My Mum has one of the touch Brabantia bins and we have a Brabantia pedal bin (slightly cheaper), both bins IMO ridiculously expensive but I have to concede well worth the money as they are lasting and lasting (we have both had a few kitchen bins). My Mum needed a new lid for hers and Brabantia sent one out, no hassle.

Caligula · 18/02/2007 21:16

No I just chuck it all in (obv with a bin liner.) But I only have one bag every week, sometimes not even a whole bag's worth of rubbish, so it seems so wasteful to empty it when it's only half full. Should I put food scraps in a plastic bag before putting them in the bin then?

Caligula · 18/02/2007 21:17

I use a combination of the brabantia bags or the normal council bin-bags they provide us with
