Thrown out of the pub last night. Advice please!

NC. Last night my friend and I met up for a catch up drink at a local pub I frequent every month or so, sometimes for food, sometimes just for drinks. A lot of tables had reserved signs on for diners as is usual. I found a table without a sign and we sat chatting for an hour over a drink.

Suddenly the bar manager came over and had brought plates of food assuming it was ours. I said, "that's not ours, we're not eating tonight". He said, "well get up then cos this food is for people who have reserved the table." I said that the table didn't have a reserved sign and he said, "get up". I told him that he wasn't even sorry. He was so rude and aggressive.

My friend and I got up and went to the bar. At no point did we refuse to leave the table, swear or raise our voices. He then came over and said he couldn't believe we didn't know the table was reserved. My friend told him we didn't want to have any more discussion, we just wanted to order another drink. He then said that he wouldn't serve us and asked us to leave the pub! We were completely shocked and humiliated. I've found the whole thing really upsetting. Two middle aged women thrown out of a busy pub! Most places would apologise for the misunderstanding and buy us a drink on the house!

AIBU to go to the pub today and speak to the landlord? My friends and family all use this pub and I want to give the pub the chance to redeem themselves. If he sides with the bar manager I wouldn't go there again.

Can anyone please advise what my next steps should be?

"Told one woman to only darken his door again if she came with her carer as she obviously needs one!!!!"Angry

You can contact the brewery, tell them what happened and say that usually you would leave it but having looked at Trip Advisor you realised there is a big problem at this pub. Ask them if they are aware of the reviews page and specifically the ones involving the manager.

Shiny - today I wanted to send an email to congratulate colleagues on a brilliant panto.
I put "brilliant panto!" as the header. Luckily I noticed the computer had changed it to "brilliant pants!" just in time.

shinynewusername · 16/12/2016 18:06

A friend once sent an inter-anal memo, Cauli.

fairgame84 · 16/12/2016 18:08

I've just read TripAdvisor. The manager is a twunt. The landlord and brewery should not be allowing him to reply on TripAdvisor if he cannot be professional. Go with your dh and speak to the landlord op.

Eek please don't say the pub on here.

CharlieDimmocksbosoms · 16/12/2016 18:23

Ok haven't finished reading the whole thread but one thing jumped out at me. THEY KEEP THE HIGHCHAIRS IN THE TOILET???? Seriously????

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 16/12/2016 18:48

Does the managers name begin with a J?

stitchglitched · 16/12/2016 18:53

Wow the manager is so rude on tripadvisor. And he says should 'of' instead of 'have' repeatedly!

Serialweightwatcher · 16/12/2016 18:54

Someone pls message me and tell me the bloody name of the pub - I've tried all reviews given the bits of info on here for these types of pubs and can't find anything - I even though you were giving a cryptic clue CauliflowerSqueeze (you weren't were you?) so I've tried that avenue and now I've got eye strain and brain ache Xmas Sad

Serialweightwatcher · 16/12/2016 18:55

thought not though - see I've lost the plot Xmas Confused

Askedtoleave · 16/12/2016 18:58

Please stop guessing!

OP posts:
CauliflowerSqueeze · 16/12/2016 18:59

Sorry no cryptic clue from me - I haven't a clue where it is!

Serialweightwatcher · 16/12/2016 19:02

Mynestisfullofempty · 16/12/2016 19:03

OP, since you've namechanged for this thread, why are you so worried someone will mention the name of the pub?

Askedtoleave · 16/12/2016 19:08

Cos if it gets back to the pub he obviously knows it's me he threw out!

OP posts:
Mynestisfullofempty · 16/12/2016 19:09

Why would you want to go back there?

Birdsgottafly · 16/12/2016 19:36

Using the disabled toilet is a H&S issue, that should have been reported to the LL and if not acted upon, taken further.

You'll get no-where on TA, but at least the review will be there, on record.

The Pub isn't being run well, aside from the general Customer Services. That's a matter for the LL to address.

bloodyteenagers · 16/12/2016 19:47

Why would you want to go back there though?
I get shit service from a company I put I an official complaint and generally take my custom elsewhere. With this one I would go elsewhere.
I hadn't been in my local for 2 years as the manager was an abusive, arrogant arsehole who kicked us out for bs reasons.
More and more people stopped going because of him and he is no longer there.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 16/12/2016 19:48

I think it's a rural pub and one that they go to a lot.

MotherFuckingChainsaw · 16/12/2016 20:09

Those of you saying don't go back ...

It's hard to over emphasise just how important a pub is to the community if it's the only one. Your social life is impacted massively if there's a problem. Meetings for local groups are held in ours, if you can't go in you miss out on a big piece of community life in some places.

Anniegetyourgun · 16/12/2016 20:12

Time for a change of profession, OP. Ever fancied running your own hostelry? There should be an absolute stampede if an alternative venue opened up nearby.

GabsAlot · 17/12/2016 00:02
