No. I don't think I am.

Farewell then mumsnet.

You used to be a place of interesting and feisty debate.

I will miss that.

OP posts:
Saffronesque · 14/12/2016 19:29

Have been here 14 years 😀 & will definitely miss your straightforward nessus and also your expert knowledge.
You have been very kind to share both over many years.

FayKorgasm · 14/12/2016 19:34

Spero sometimes they delete in error.

Bluntness100 · 14/12/2016 19:35

Can someone explain this to me please. Is this sort of thread simply to prove a point and have people beg you not to go? Like a virtual on line ego boost?

Surely people post on Aibu for traffic? If you actually wanted to leave why would you post here?

Genuine question. If you're just pissed off something was deleted why not just say?

Man10 · 14/12/2016 19:37

YABU to leave. YANBU to sulk at being moderated. It hurts.

AuntieStella · 14/12/2016 19:38

Seriously crap decision to delete, as first thread had reached 1000 posts.

I saw it, and thought it was not spero who was being goady.

And I will miss the expert contribution, nit just limited to MN, in the field.

I hope your own website flourishes, and your free advice to those in need continues.

I hope you might reconsider.

I'm going to report this thread to MNHQ, not because I expect them to change their mind (their circus, their monkeys) but so they are aware that this decision was not universally welcome. And the feeling that the loss of another expert poster is a pity.

chipsandgin · 14/12/2016 19:38

A shame if you do but perfectly understandable. I have to say I am confused at times by some posters (there have always been some goady twats but the trolls and dailyfail stealing is much more prevalent) and the quick fire deletion of seemingly fine stuff (and the sloooow deletion of some frankly weird shit) is frustrating at best.

I left after 8 years about 4 years ago and recently returned, but am also thinking it might be best to chip off again! Saying that, in no way have I made any useful contribution as you have and have always been a frequent namechanger due to privacy concerns so am sure I was or wouldn't be missed as you will be!

Wishing you well if you do make that decision though.

PurpleDaisies · 14/12/2016 19:38

Spero sometimes they delete in error.*

There's a response on site stuff backing the decision to delete it.

HOHOHOvariesBeforeBrovaries I hope you don't mind, but I've reported your post because I think MNHQ should read it.

Pestilence13610 · 14/12/2016 19:40

We're very happy for there to be a second thread now that first one is full, so do feel free to start another, but we would ask that it's started as a simple continuation of the original, rather than anything else.
Sorted

bibbitybobbityyhat · 14/12/2016 19:43

Yanbu Spero! This is a sorry state of affairs.

And a big fat Biscuit to posters who think they are being oh so witty about Flouncer's Corner.

I think maybe the new recruits at HQ are being a bit trigger happy with the old deletions? A thread asking where Usualsuspect has got to was deleted earlier with the deletion message "we don't usually allow threads about individual posters" but that is not actually true. There are hundreds if not thousands of threads about individual posters.

They seem to be really cracking down. Trying to change Mumsnet to be more anodyne to keep the advertisers happy perhaps?

meditrina · 14/12/2016 19:43

The moderation, when it occurs, isn't what it used to be.

Their choice if course.

But a low point for me was on a change of title on a thread about Santa being real. Instead of the robust line that has been used for the last decade or so, ie 'this is a site for adults, you may want to think about whether your children should have unsupervised access to it' and no change/deletion - this year, title was edited because 'little eyes' might see it.

Now, where's that [boak] emoticon we've been asking for?

claig · 14/12/2016 19:44

Spero, don't go. I remember you from a few years back on several threads. You were always knowledgeable and an interesting poster. I don't know what this thread was all about and why it was deleted, but it may have been someone at MNHQ who may have caught a bad case of political correctness or something.

PurpleDaisies · 14/12/2016 19:45

I totally agree. That was absolutely ridiculous.

Viviennemary · 14/12/2016 19:50

Oh please don't leave. Mumsnet won't be the same without you. I suppose that's what you want to hear.

OvO · 14/12/2016 19:51

Thread titles about Santa have been changed (obv not all. Just the occasionally reported one) for at least 10 years. Has been done since I was a Noob way back in 2006, so it's not a sign of A Worsening Mumsnet.

tldr · 14/12/2016 19:51

Hahaha, I missed Santa isnt real-gate. So we're happy to let our kids read about penis beaking and that bizarre 'I'm stoned' lady, or indeed about baby snatching conspiracies, as long as they don't get wind about Santa?

WestmorlandSausage · 14/12/2016 19:52

Crikey I was just thinking the other day I hadn't seen you around for a long time Spero (or you either claig but I suspect that's more because I avoided the brexit/presidential threads recently Grin) I assumed you had gone/ name changed long ago like me

I had almost forgotten the JH stuff, those were the days. Can't imagine that happening now, although the daily mail would be straight on it these days, we wouldn't have to tweet them to pick it up!

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/12/2016 19:53

Well, in this case, Viviennemary, it happens to be true.

PurpleDaisies · 14/12/2016 19:53

That was my opinion tldr.
Given the number of titles with cunt and fuck in them, threads about anal fisting and domestic violence I'm surprised that "Santa isn't real" is what little eyes shouldn't be seeing...

creakyknees13 · 14/12/2016 19:54

I do think they delete threads willy-nilly even if those threads were not started by a genuine poster. It can be annoying when you check 'threads I am on' and most of it has been deleted. They cannot know for sure that someone is a troll- the most they know is whether someone has posted contradictory information.

They also seem very quick to delete to 'protect privacy' even where there appears to be no risk or the lapdancing one recently where they said 'it's not helping anyone'. Wtf? Just because there was disagreement between posters.

I am sorry that you are leaving though. Despite the problems, it can be quite a lot of fun.

EdmundCleverClogs · 14/12/2016 19:54

Sounds like you have many fans, Spero Smile. I don't blame you though, I'm close to leaving as well (not that anyone would miss me Grin). I had a telling off because I was 'rude' to a poster. Usually I wouldn't mind, except this poster had been spouting an ignorant and quite frankly homophobic opinion and shouting 'bully' to anyone who disagreed. Apparently telling someone they're wrong warrants an email calling you (and I quote) 'mean'. Very playground stuff.

glitterandtinsel · 14/12/2016 19:56

I made a comment about Vernon Kay's not so private life as it's been reported in the news. It was in relation to the Tess Daly thread. It was deleted. I only wrote what had been reported in the news, not malicious gossip!
So the message saying it's been deleted made it look like what I'd said was worse than it was!
You don't need to leave. It's not you.

meditrina · 14/12/2016 19:57

I've never seen a Santa thread title changed before this year, though I suppose I'm not here as much as some other posters so there's bound to be people who have seen more threads.

It's simply my observation on what I'd seen in previous years compared to this year.
