It's like a fucking war zone here for the past two days with emergency sirens CONSTANTLY.
My head is done in.
Stop it.
Otherwise you can squeal your way here while I go completely in fucking sane.

It's half a dozen every ten minutes! Really don't know what's going on with them.

The OP isn't being completely unreasonable. Sometimes the emergency services do switch on their sirens when there is no need to, a completely empty road for example. Obviously they need them when they need to alert people that they are coming to make room on the road for them, but it is by no means always the case that they are needed.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 14/12/2016 18:05

*It's like a fucking war zone here

I very much doubt it is!

HTH.

Stripeyblanket · 14/12/2016 18:23

You'd hate where I live then... facing a main dual carriageway... Sirens ALL the time. Personally doesn't bother me.
They are used because they are needed. It's an emergency and someone needs help.

CheshireChat · 14/12/2016 19:20

Hah, I used to live very close to an emergency hospital, they don't bother me anymore. Just keep yourself busy and use headphones if you can.

mimishimmi · 15/12/2016 19:48

It does sound odd. Perhaps they are preparing for something ? Which raises the very sticky question of fore knowledge.

myoriginal3 · 15/12/2016 20:11

It's all quiet today!

Maybe they read this thread and changed route for you Grin

myoriginal3 · 15/12/2016 20:18

Haha. Just jinxed myself. They are away again.

Just be grateful the fucking sirens aren't on for an emergency veh to get to you or your family.

They don't put them on just for a laugh.

Actually they are not.

a) there are NO laws or regulations about maximum volume of sirens, regardless of the time in a day. Emergency vehicles use as they claim "off the shelf" equipment. New technology is available, just not in use.

b) whilst there are some recommendations, in the end of the day usage (or not) of sirens is 100% down to driver's discretion.

Given that your comment is factually incorrect and also aligns with a common view of uninformed public commenting with their emotions rather than knowledge, I would query every other view repeated-without-engaging-your-brain-cells.

The matter is pretty complicated but many members of the public just like to follow the common trend picturing Armageddon scenes with their whole family dying on the roadside. What about hundreds of people affected mentally (and physically) because of the noise? This is also a public health matter, in fact 1 in 4 GP visits in this country are mental health related - can't see why is that not an issue.

MONITOR11 · 22/01/2020 15:42
  • I meant to respond to this comment:

"It is also really strictly controled about when and how they can use their sirens e.g. they can;t actually just put them on and blast back to base for a laugh" by @YelloDraw

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 22/01/2020 15:46

@MONITOR11 this thread is 3 years old Confused

GreyhoundzRool · 22/01/2020 15:46

THREE YEARS AGO 🤔

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 22/01/2020 15:53

I read halfway through then realised it's THREE YEARS OLD.

Blimey MONITOR11 what on Earth were you searching to get this? Confused

Darkstar4855 · 22/01/2020 15:58

@MONITOR11 my partner is a paramedic and for his ambulance service it is NOT “100% down to the driver’s discretion”. There are strict rules about when they can use them, especially at night. If they are reported for using them when they shouldn’t be they can face disciplinary action.

Given that your comment is factually incorrect AND on a post three years old, maybe you should consider engaging your OWN brain cells before directing snide comments at other posters.

Winterwoollies · 22/01/2020 16:08

Whenever I hear or am passed by blues and twos, I feel compassion for the people affected, not annoyed for my own auditory discomfort... weird huh? Try it. Or if you’re too self-involved for thoughts of others, put some headphones on.

Winterwoollies · 22/01/2020 16:09

Oh annoying. It’s a zombie thread.

TopOftheNaughtyList · 22/01/2020 16:12

I live on a main road, about 100yds from the local ambulance and fire stations and around 300yds from the police station. I get sirens going past my house ALL THE TIME so I get that they can be annoying, but for me it's part and parcel of living where I do. I just think myself lucky it's not me that's needing one of the emergency services.

Patroclus · 22/01/2020 16:14

I know what you mean OP, I do feel bad but it drives me up the fucking wall on my road. Other night a twocked car crashed right outside my window at 1am, the chasing police ditched and got him but left their alarm on outside my bedroom window for half an hour.

Patroclus · 22/01/2020 16:15

fucks sake who are these zombies

Auridon4life · 22/01/2020 16:42

I like them in the background don't know why just reminds me I'm in a big bustling city.

GinDaddy · 22/01/2020 16:49

this is a f u c k ! n g ZOMBIE!!

If anyone lives near Stratford, can you please verify the extent of it!

Yeah I can help; you live in an area with a lot of crime.

MGC31 · 22/01/2020 16:50

The law is, if claiming an exemption lights and sirens must be used.

TopOftheNaughtyList · 22/01/2020 16:55

Don't you have a local Facebook page for your town? The minute anything happens in our area some busybody is on there asking if anyone knows why there is a siren/police car/ambulance/helicopter about and plenty of others with answers or speculation as to what's happening.
