It's like a fucking war zone here for the past two days with emergency sirens CONSTANTLY.
My head is done in.
Stop it.
Otherwise you can squeal your way here while I go completely in fucking sane.

Sirens or alarms? Car and burglar alarms drive me bonkers when they go on and on and on.

Lots of emergency sirens would make me think there was a big fire or pile up

BreatheDeep · 14/12/2016 16:18

Do you live near a fire station / ambulance station / police station? Or on a major route?
Seriously, they only use them when necessary so although I understand it could be annoying to hear, it is a bit silly to get wound up about. People are in need of those sirens

kirinm · 14/12/2016 16:19

I live in SE London and it's constant sirens. I'm living in between two hospitals, a fire station and police station. I'm also investing in double glazing!

myoriginal3 · 14/12/2016 16:19

Nope. Mainly police sirens. I've never heard anything like it in the past two days.

It's like a fucking war zone

Nope. Syria is a war zone.

I live near the city centre. They basically lull me to sleep nowadays. Grin I've had to use the emergency services quite a few times this year though (paramedics) so I'm eternally grateful.

Cornettoninja · 14/12/2016 16:20

Is there a diversion/roadworks on a main road near you I wonder?

Yes emergency vehicles are doing a fantastic job and we'd all be grateful to hear them if we needed them, but I do understand how constant loud noises can fray your nerves.

Sirens are designed to elicit a response in us so it's not a massive stretch to understand how a person could be tired and bad tempered if their experiencing an unusual amount of them.

myoriginal3 · 14/12/2016 16:21

There's a fire station about a mile away, don't know where police stations are and there are a few hospitals in about a five miles radius.

*Today 16:15 Topseyt

Have you ever been that emergency needing their help?

If not then be grateful. I have, and it wasn't a whole barrel of laughs.*

Me too , I've never been so pleased to hear them.

myoriginal3 · 14/12/2016 16:24

I'm in east London. I've never heard anything like it before. That makes sense if maybe there's a road block or something so they're all trying to get through. I don't know though, I haven't walked around much.

CatSittingMonkey · 14/12/2016 16:25

Hah even with sirens and blues on a lot of pedestrians and motorists still don't see/hear us coming.

So yeh, not sure what stopping the sirens would achieve other than more accidents and delays getting emergency vehicles to where they really need to be.

amammabear · 14/12/2016 16:29

Lots of hospitals within five miles? Gosh, I'd be grateful for the sirens. Hearing an ambulance where I live means the poor patient has a drive of at least 20 miles ahead of them! The same for a full-time police station.

pklme · 14/12/2016 16:32

Could it be a new security alarm somewhere? Are they definitely moving around? Silly question maybe, but our neighbour has one like an emergency services one.

Note3 · 14/12/2016 16:33

Hmm this OP was on a other thread trying to goad the OP over an upsetting personal crisis and now I see they've started this random inconsiderate thread. Think you need to go and help in a soup kitchen or something myoriginal so you have a chance to develop empathy

Flipping phone...another not a other!

myoriginal3 · 14/12/2016 16:36

Note. I asked the woman not to take her anger at her situation out on her baby. I was hardly goading.

myoriginal3 · 14/12/2016 16:37

Definitely sirens.

OP posts:
Redglitter · 14/12/2016 16:46

The roads are possibly busier this time of year with shoppers. In that case there would be an increase in sirens if the emergency services are struggling to get through.

Note3 · 14/12/2016 16:48

That's your opinion...I and several others on that thread do felt differently. Maybe I've misjudged you, this is the internet after all. Hopefully people will stop being in dire need of emergency services where you live and peace can resume.

myoriginal3 · 14/12/2016 16:49

I have great respect for the emergency services, indeed they have been very good to me.
It's just doing my head in today.

PurpleMinionMummy · 14/12/2016 16:50

I get annoyed they hardly ever use sirens anymore! One minute all is fine, the next a blue flashing light right behind you and you're in the way.

GladAllOver · 14/12/2016 16:54

The sirens have to be heard by nearby drivers. They wouldn't need to be so loud if it wasn't for stupid drivers shut in their cars with music blasting out at ridiculous levels. Also pedestrians with earphones in need to hear them approaching.

SVJAA · 14/12/2016 16:56

I used to live beside the Royal infirmary in Edinburgh, and now live beside a big hospital in the West also beside the main train line for the west. I don't hear it anymore, it's just background noise.

Crowdblundering · 14/12/2016 17:00

I live near the main road between two big towns we hear them all the time - although my son texted me the other day to say someone was being arrested in our road which was most exciting Grin

We also get the police helicopter hovering above but I stop noticing it really and am just pleased they are doing their job.

Pretty sure most war zones don't have so many ambulances and police recusing people - or any roads left to get there by ....Sad

hyperhypermum · 14/12/2016 17:14

I've noticed an increase in my area too. Never a day goes past when I don't see/hear at least half a dozen. I can't believe the sirens are used unnecessarily so am concerned rather than angry.
