Period problem at work! (I'm hiding in the toilet!)

Not aibu, posting for traffic need urgent suggestions!

Just got to work i'm in the toilet, about to start soon.
Came on this morning, put a tampon in and stupidly only put one more in my bag and forgot my purse (because I'm an idiot!!)

Im usually not that heavy, but just got into the toilet looked down, blood everywhere bled through super tampon I literally put in an hour ago, bleed through onto pants (both sides!!) Tights and skirt are ok (for now!( and thankfully wearing black and sit on black chair!

I have about £2 in change, there's no shops that sell pants anyway around here but there's a little boots that will sell tampons (hopefully I have enough right?!!) What if I don't???! I don't have time to go now, lunch is at 1 so ill go then and put the tampon I have in now but if I'm bleeding like this already there's a good chance I will be a mess by then! any suggestions? tried to clean up pants with toilet paper but they're still wet!

I've ended up making emergency donations of my pads to mortified teenagers that have been caught out. I also had to do the emergency toilet roll when my first period turned up during a PE lesson.

Asking for an emergency loan and trip to Boots is less embarrassing than the alternatives.

Jaxhog · 13/12/2016 10:16

Loo paper first. Then discretely tell your boss. He'll almost certainly lend you the money and let you go get some pads. Men can be quite sympathetic too, and most have wives/GF/sisters.

loobyloo1234 · 13/12/2016 10:18

Are you ok OP? Shock

I have also used tissue ... poor us. Bloody periods (no pun intended)

twilightcafe · 13/12/2016 10:19

OP: Tell your boss you have a medical emergency (womens' problems) and say you need to go home, but you will make the time up.

Redpony1 · 13/12/2016 10:20

Hope the OP has got sorted!

I'm having mild nightmares here, just stopped taking the pill after 5 years to reset body to start TTC next year & i hate blood. I can remember the constant panic of wondering whether my tampons/pad were keeping it all in, and the horror when they occasionally failed :(

Oldraver · 13/12/2016 10:20

If you can get enough money I would see if you can get some Tena pants

Mrsemcgregor · 13/12/2016 10:21

You poor thing, big wad of loo roll and nip to boots for some night time pads. Better than tampons if you are really flooding.

BillSykesDog · 13/12/2016 10:25

Yeah, rinse your knickers wring out and dry with a hand dryer. As well as putting toilet paper on your gusset you can make a big circular wad and, er, shove it up there. Gross but works a treat. Boots do a packet of own brand non-applicators for about £1.50.

Tell your boss you've had a minor emergency and pop to Boots.

And FGS don't listen to the people telling you to go home. You're new in your job, going home because you've had a leak would be completely unacceptable.

Good luck.

BasinHaircut · 13/12/2016 10:35

I've just read back the OP after all that as I thought She was saying she had bled into clothes. But turns out it's only her pants and she hadn't actually started work yet so could easily nip back out.

Wrap pants in loo roll and leg it to Boots with your 2 quid. Buy cheap tampons.

Once back take off knickers, put tampon in and strategically stuff tights with tissue. The hand towel type if possible as it won't disintegrate as easily.

Not ideal to go without knickers but I'm assuming that you work sitting down so should hold sufficiently with tights. probably won't be comfortable though.

onceacuntalwaysacunt · 13/12/2016 10:43

I have had many horrible incidents like this.

Many have come from the wad of loo roll method when it gradually migrates up as you walk & out the top of my trousers

Ohdearducks · 13/12/2016 10:44

Hope you sorted it out OP was coming to suggest the loo tool wrapping technique but see it's been suggested. It happened to me years ago and I couldn't ask anyone for help because I worked with horrible bitches who would have loved nothing better than the opportunity to humiliate me forever more.Sad

Abricot1993 · 13/12/2016 10:46

Ibuprofen tablets reduce blood flow by a third to a half. If you have taken ibuprofen before then you could try this.

SapphireStrange · 13/12/2016 11:02

I'm sorry, OP. We've all been there and it's horrid.

Just speak to your boss. Men are capable of hearing about periods without shrivelling up and dying of embarrassment. Well, they should be anyway. I'm sure he's man enough to lend you money and let you pop to the chemist.

Cutesbabasmummy · 13/12/2016 11:21

Just say you have a woman's problem and need to go to the chemist. Do you have a card on you to pay with or can you use Apple or Android pay?

BasinHaircut · 13/12/2016 11:22

Just tad my post back and it sounds terribly unsympathetic! I had 3 years of this type of incident when I was at school and so I probably just became a pro at itGrin

Verbena37 · 13/12/2016 11:44

Say you've got D and V and go home for today.
Then try and keep a make up bag topped up at work in case it happens again.
It would be my worst nightmare so I really for you Flowers

roarityroar · 13/12/2016 13:27

I'm quite shocked so many people would go home for this. Tissue paper and calm!

Princesspinkgirl · 13/12/2016 13:47

Toilet paper tell boss urgent shop trip needed sort your self out quickly back to work days nearly over

EveOnline2016 · 13/12/2016 13:50

I would go home and make my time back up.

I can be home and back within 1 hour, so doable.

twilightcafe · 13/12/2016 13:53

If I didn't feel that I could ask my boss for tampons or a pad, I would certainly say that I had a medical emergency and either had to go home or to the nearest chemist.
OP has a v heavy period and emergency loo paper isn't going to help.

twilightcafe · 13/12/2016 13:54

And definitely keep some tampons and pads in a drawer at work. I assumed everyone did this.

Arghhhhhred · 13/12/2016 15:38

Thanks for all your posts! Love Mumsnet for things like this!
Boss let me nip to Boots, had enough for tampons and managed to clean up with babywipes.
Although changing every hour and still leaking through super tampons, maybe I'll ring 111 when I get in.
So glad I wore black today!! And looks like it's all i'll be wearing for the next 5 days.
Have stuffed some tampons in bottom of drawer for emergencies!!

I think it's perfectly ok to go home although the OP doesn't need to. If she couldn't stem the flow somehow with proper provision, the situation would get worse and worse. Continuing to work in clothes drenched with blood is not ok. We've all had to do it sometimes but actually it's ok to say "I need to go and deal with this and I can't deal with it here".

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2016 16:08

Good call to ring 111, OP. That's a very heavy flow indeed. I have heavy periods (I think) but nothing like that.

Get some proper medical advice from the people who know. :)
