Period problem at work! (I'm hiding in the toilet!)

Not aibu, posting for traffic need urgent suggestions!

Just got to work i'm in the toilet, about to start soon.
Came on this morning, put a tampon in and stupidly only put one more in my bag and forgot my purse (because I'm an idiot!!)

Im usually not that heavy, but just got into the toilet looked down, blood everywhere bled through super tampon I literally put in an hour ago, bleed through onto pants (both sides!!) Tights and skirt are ok (for now!( and thankfully wearing black and sit on black chair!

I have about £2 in change, there's no shops that sell pants anyway around here but there's a little boots that will sell tampons (hopefully I have enough right?!!) What if I don't???! I don't have time to go now, lunch is at 1 so ill go then and put the tampon I have in now but if I'm bleeding like this already there's a good chance I will be a mess by then! any suggestions? tried to clean up pants with toilet paper but they're still wet!

I'd go home sick tbh.

Write the day off and go back to bed.

TheWitTank · 13/12/2016 09:25

This happened to me years ago, only unfortunately I was wearing cream trousers. Luckily I realised at my desk and managed to crab walk with my coat around me across the office (I worked with about 250 men and 3 women!) and get to the loo. There was no way I could have hidden it, so cleaned up as best I could, shoved a load of loo roll in my pants and tied my coat round my waist and asked my supervisor (luckily one of the ladies) if I could nip home and clean up.

Cakeycakecake · 13/12/2016 09:26

TBH if you're still in there I'd go out, say upset tummy and head home. Believable and I'd not wanna sit in that all day either

CondensedMilkSarnies · 13/12/2016 09:28

Wrap loads of loo roll around the gusset of your knickers ( up one leg hole , over gusset and down the other type thing) so that it doesn't soak through .

Pumpkin2010 · 13/12/2016 09:29

I'd buy big pads instead of tampons if I only had money for one and I was on so heavy. Plus with having went through to your knickers it'd make more sense?

Sparkesx · 13/12/2016 09:31

I had this problem last month, in fact I had a super heavy tampon in and bled all over my office chair, I didn't dare move so it got worse and worse.

If I were you, i'd explain to your boss immediately! If you feel embarrassed e-mail them if you're able to get a quick response that way. Stuff tissue down your knickers and go home. Get home first, sort yourself out then pop to the shops and buy some cheap pads/tampons. I use Asda's which are £1, go to Asda if you can. They're fine and last 2 hours until I change them.

Backingvocals · 13/12/2016 09:33

If you're nearby I'll happily drop off "emergency supplies". Where are you?

BikeRunSki · 13/12/2016 09:35

Tell your boss. Men will let you do anything to stop talking about anything gynaecological.

Although mine would probably make me a cup of tea and buy me chocolate!

1horatio · 13/12/2016 09:35

Tell your boss. There is NO reason to be embarrassed. You did nothing wrong.

Idk, how much are the cheapest pads/tampons?

SleepFreeZone · 13/12/2016 09:36

I must be shameless as if just get it sorted by borrowing a couple of quid off a colleague. If you don't want to say it's a period related emergency the just make it s different sort of emergency.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2016 09:37

Oh OP. Go to any of your female colleagues and ask. They'd be really upset, I'm sure, if they knew that you were angsting about this and didn't ask them. It doesn't matter if they don't know you yet. I'd hand over pads, tampons and cash to any woman who approached me for help, I think most women would.

Go and ask, they really won't mind. :)

If it were me and I could only get tampons, I would take off my knickers (as suggested), rinse and dry them as best I could (in loo paper if needed), put large wodges of loo paper in/on held in by the tights and get myself to the chemist.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2016 09:39

Brilliant suggestion from Condensed about wrapping the loo roll. That thought had never occurred to me. It would help dry your knickers too - only rinse out the gusset bit so that you're not sitting in wet all day.

CantstandmLMs · 13/12/2016 09:41

I do feel for you but If I wasn't brave enough to ask a fellow colleague I would definitely say you're feeling really ill and go home if possible!

VoodooPeople · 13/12/2016 09:46

Wrap loads of loo roll around the gusset of your knickers ( up one leg hole , over gusset and down the other type thing) so that it doesn't soak through

I had to do that once. I was walking like a saddle-sore John Wayne on my way back from the loo (may have overdone the emergency padding)

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 13/12/2016 09:49

Have a word with your boss. These things happen. You don't have to come right out and say you have blood everywhere. Just say you have been caught short, need to pop to the shop.
Can you get to the bank to get £10 out? Some banks have the emergency cash thing where they text you a pin to withdraw money without the need for a card at a cash point

Rachel0Greep · 13/12/2016 09:50

Yes, I've done the loo roll wrap.
Poor you, OP. I hope you get sorted.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 13/12/2016 09:50

And yes you should be able to buy something for £2

Ahickiefromkinickie · 13/12/2016 09:51

Yep, take a fat wad of toilet paper and put on gusset of knickers. It will help until you can get some tampons.

We've all probably been caught out like this at some point, you will get through the day and heave a huge sigh of relief Smile

pimmsy · 13/12/2016 09:53

Do you have socks on over your tights by any chance? ( I do when i wear boots), If so if all else fails you could sacrifice a sock.

Good luck and try and ask your superior.

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 13/12/2016 09:55

I feel so sorry for you but you must go home if you possibly can. Make up the time later. Then you can get yourself sorted. Then for future months make sure you have a supply of pads/tampons/spare pants/tights/pain-killers in your bottom desk drawer/locker. Whenever you need to use these make sure you replace the items so that you never run out again.

I'm a good deal older than you so no longer feel so embarrassed about such stuff. It's a fact of life that sometimes even the most organised of us can get caught out.

BorpBorpBorp · 13/12/2016 09:56

Good luck OP. We've all been there.

londonrach · 13/12/2016 09:58

Seriously op tell someone weve all been there. I alwAys carry towels with me so if you asked me i can give you one. Ive been in toilets at a museum once and a lady quietly asked overthe toilet door and i slipped one under the door for her. It happens.

sparechange · 13/12/2016 10:01

If you're the only woman in the office and no one is going to walk in, canyou rinse your knickers in the sink and dry them under the hand dryer?

Then loo roll wad, and ask your boss to borrow a fiver. Or put an IOU in the petty cash because you've just realised you've left your purse at home and have an emergency

And I know this isn't helpful for you now, but it was something very similar that finally made me make the switch to a mooncup. It's been life changing!

PeteSwotatoes · 13/12/2016 10:03

^^ YY to the above, can you wash your pants in the sink? Use cold water, hot will set the stain.

Sorry you're going through this OP, it gave me flashbacks to being at school and wrapping loads of loo roll around my pants. It's so grim when it happens. My mum never taught me about always carrying sanpro and spare knickers but I do it now.

KatherinaMinola · 13/12/2016 10:06

Hope OP is OK. I'm just remembering the thread about a month ago where the OP also bled through a maxi pad in an hour and it ended up being a genuine medical emergency (ambulance). So do keep an eye on it OP - if you are bleeding through a pad an hour call 111.
