To think we're going on a bear hunt is boring and not a new classic

My three year old daughter has never liked it and I find it dull and not particularly charming. Everyone else I know loves it and now it's the main t.v event for pre-schoolers being dramatised on Christmas Eve. Is it just me?

I'm another one who is meh about Bear Hunt (though I love the picture of the bear at the end - the illustrator based it on one of his friends who suffered from chronic depression, and I think that shows)

Love Lynsey Dodd - all her books scan properly, unlike Julia Donaldson. I think all her books have at least one line that I can't get to flow or rhyme properly

And of course the Very Hungry Caterpillar is awesome

That's Jill Murphy.

Quite liking Kes Gray at the moment. And Jon Klassen.

Am I the only person who thinks the dad is a feckless father? If that was my Dh id have his guts for garters!! Let the kids wade through a river? Trundle through a snowstorm with summery clothing?? That just makes him a special kind of idiot and justification for supervised visits. Grumble grumble.

I think it's an older brother not the dad! It's a traditional American camp song - nothing special but Helen Oxenbury's illustrations tell a beautiful story about a group of children playing a fantastic imaginary game. And the sad bear at the end adds an extra dimension. It's all about how you read it, drawing attention to the illustrations, letting dcs add their own comments on the children and what they are doing. Plenty of scope for a brilliant cartoon I imagine.

So is it an older sister or a very very young Mum? Never quite worked that out. In my mind she is the older sister.

YANBU. I personally find it rather uninspiring, dc never particularly enthusiastic. Nothing really against it though!
