Dad on bus 'look at all these people sitting who won't let a child have a seat'

Just that really, he got on with two boys aged about 10 and 8. People looked at each other and laughed. Old enough to stand surely.

This thread has given me the perfect excuse to tell someone my Mr Loud Daddy story. Posh hotel at buffet breakfast Mr LD to his ds. "Oh Sebastian, I know you would like some orange juice, we like our healthy juice don't we Sebastian but someone seems to have drank it all, that's not very nice is it Sebastian, we wouldn't do that would we?" Xmas Grin

Misery, your complaint was about people who prevent you from sitting in the priority seats next to your pram. Don't try to move the goalposts.

I have stood next to the pram on many occasions, it's awful, you are constantly making sure the pushchair doesn't tip or you end up being flung down the aisle?

You must have a seriously badly designed pushchair if it keeps tipping up when your child is in it unless you hold on to it. I suggest you get rid of it, it can't be legal. And I've never been flung down the aisle when standing because I hold on to the bars and handles that are there for that purpose.

And why do you keep putting question marks after statements?

TurquoiseDress · 11/12/2016 13:54

The dad sounds like a bit of a knob.

Why say that in front of his kids & everyone? Passive aggressive hmmm

They are 8 & 10 so old enough to stand (unless they have special needs that are not obvious)

You'd seriously ask an elderly person to move? Confused our buses are also the same and I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing.

We have a seat right down the front on these buses. I still remember a bloke on two crutches asking me to move, which I did, because he literally (and I'm not being sarcastic) couldn't walk any further down the bus, to where the priority seats were. At least not without causing himself further pain or holding the bus up for twenty minutes whilst he got to said priority seats.

8misskitty8 · 11/12/2016 14:03

If your buggy tips up or flys down the aisle even with you standing beside it then you need to return the buggy ?
Never seen this happen on a bus and I have used then frequently with and without my children.
Wheelchair spaces are covered by disability law, buggies aren't.
Buying a ticket does not entitle you to a seat, it entitles you to joirney on the bus.

GingerIvy · 11/12/2016 14:16

The only time I've seen the buggy tip(or had them Blush) was when it was laden down with bags. And that was my fault. Lesson learned.

8misskitty8 · 11/12/2016 14:23

Gingerivy, it does warn you on the buggy/in the instructions not to hang bags of the handles !!! LOL

GingerIvy · 11/12/2016 14:25

I know. I did say it was my fault! Grin

GingerIvy · 11/12/2016 14:26

But I see people doing it all the time, so the buggy is sometimes twice as wide. Lol

ghostspirit · 11/12/2016 14:37

If I had shopping on.my buggy and it tipped because of the heavy shopping I would leave it tipped so I don't risk is happening again. My poor baby eggs

Heathen4Hire - the Please Offer Me a Seat trial has actually been a success and they are planning on rolling it out in the New Year.

tfl.gov.uk/campaign/please-offer-me-a-seat?intcmp=41947

There are a lot of positive comments on Twitter too (#pleaseoffermeseat) from people taking part and some more info here pppphd.wordpress.com/ and pleaseoffermeaseat.com/

Hopefully when they launch properly next year there will be a lot more posters up and media awareness too. The badge does work!

Polarbearflavour · 11/12/2016 14:39

Someone earlier posted that Baby on Board badge wearers are escorted to seats...er....no? Confused

GingerIvy · 11/12/2016 14:42

I don't have any young enough for a pushchair and it's impossible to put anything on my ds's wheelchair, so I use a shoulder bag or backpack now. The tipped buggy was YEARS ago! Grin

BishopBrennansArse · 11/12/2016 14:44

DS2 (11) stopped using a wheelchair last year.
He still isn't that great without lots of rest breaks and no, he couldn't stand.
But then he sits in the fold down seats next to me in my wheelchair anyway and if he couldn't I'd make it clear he's disabled and needs a priority seat.

I do however hate those who unthinkingly make assumptions of the fitness of older children.

CaraAspen · 11/12/2016 14:46

Elderly people and disabled people should naturally be given priority over mums and clunky prams. No one can possibly disagree with that, can they?Hmm

BishopBrennansArse · 11/12/2016 14:48

Oh yes they can on here, Cara.
On these very boards I've been told that as I have a nice chair to sit in it should be fine for me to sit at the bus stop and let all the mummies leave their tank unfolded!

SauvignonBlanche · 11/12/2016 14:54

I'd find that hard to believe, BishopBrennansArse if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes on one of these threads. Sad

BishopBrennansArse · 11/12/2016 14:59

Classic facebook post "You disableds wanted equality, queuing is equal, my pram goes first!"

ghostspirit · 11/12/2016 15:03

Wtf theres only 1 wheel chair space on the bus. So there should only be 1 seat then and 1 buggy space. 1 elderly people space and so on.

That's equal right?

CaraAspen · 11/12/2016 15:06

No, not all are equal. Mums owners of mahoosive pram things are not elderly nor are they disabled.

CaraAspen · 11/12/2016 15:06

Mums, owners...things, are...

CaraAspen · 11/12/2016 15:07

Not disabled - usually. Sorry.

Soubriquet · 11/12/2016 15:20

What pram do you have misery?

That sounds really dangerous!

On the other hand I do understand your frustration. I HAVE had an older person literally elbow me out of the way so she could get to her seat first. She was perfectly able just felt she was entitled to that seat. It wasn't even a priority seat. Just one where the buggy bay is (opposite the wheelchair bay)

She glared at me as I got on, almost daring me to say something. I simply detached the seat from the frame, placed it on the seat, folded the frame, stored it and sat down.

She actually deflated. I think she was spoiling for a fight. She kept glaring at me the entire journey. I ignored her
