Ok not exactly but definitely not bloody 10pm at night! I just give up. Currently staying at my nans house, it's always a constant battle regarding food and DD (13months). She's wandering around playing with toys all quiet after a terrible day battling a cold and mild temperature.Usually asleep by 8 o'clock, today she's out of sorts so I'm letting her wear herself outBlush

Well now she's just walked in the room with 4 squares of chocolate and a packet of pom bears.Angry she's never had pom bears or anymore than a couple of chocolate buttonsSad

I just bloody give up. She's throwing a tantrum now because I've taken them off of her apparently this makes me unreasonable.I'm going to give them back to her just for peace I've been up since 6

Never-ending chocolate and crisps, that child should have been in bed at bedtime! Especially if she is ill!

Relaxing warm steamy bath, medicine, vicks, story, cuddles, milk and bed no?

Now you have an overtired poorly toddler on your hands.

Cuttingthecheese · 10/12/2016 10:59

Nevermind* stupid auto correct

MrsA2015 · 10/12/2016 11:01

For those asking why she was awake at that time-

She usually had a nap midday which means by the time it's 7PM she's ready for bed. Due to yesterday's fever and general feeling unwell she had a long nap between 4-6. Hence why she was awake so lateSmile

Again, I don't really mind about the chocolate or the crisps it's just the time of night. When writing the OP I was over tired and fed up.

Also having food in her hands means "mind the furniture" so I have to be constantly vigilant she doesn't get mucky hands on the new sofaEnvy

Overall it's not the biggest problem in the world but isn't this where exasperated parents come to ventGrin

I've been to the 24/7 McDonalds if they are sick and decide they are hungry. Been there at midnight buying a happy meal at the drive thru, a bit of naughty food can get the appetite back on track. It's a treat not an everyday thing. I'll give them anything to get them eating again. My youngest is Type 1 diabetic and our obstetrician told me it's fine, just get her eating.

OP, you sounded worn out. Looking after poorly children is hard work. I hope she is better today and the late night got you a lie in. I've been at the end of my tether too, vent on Flowers

MrsA2015 · 10/12/2016 11:13

cuttingthecheese you're right, that's what we did before her nap yesterday, lunch, bath, snufflebabel, clop and cuddles before drifting off to sleep.
Her routine went out the window due to being poorly so I was just catering to her according to how she was feeling, prior to her nap she was having a very rough day, tearful and constantly wanting to breastfeed which she was starting to wean off of!

I'll get thereGrin

The OP is just tired and reasonably normal. Some of the posters however are nuts.

LottieDoubtie · 10/12/2016 20:40

I would be irritated by the snack the OP is talking about- much like she is- not clutching my pearls.

The dominos makes me clutch my pearls. And to the poster who thinks I clearly can't take responsibility for myself because I eat the dinner I wouldnt give a one year old... Well I also wouldn't give a one year old a large glass of pinot grigio... our constitutions are not the same.

In my mind dominos is about the unhealthiest food you can get- If I eat one I wake in the night thirsty from the salt. Too much salt is dangerous for small children that's why I find it shocking.

I admit I haven't actually looked up the official salt content so maybe I am overestimated... I have genuinely never met anyone who would give an under 2 a dominos though. And I am as far away from the food police as it is possible to be.

MN is weird sometimes. Confused

Hysterectical · 12/12/2016 14:34

Sorry but you sound very badly affected by this domino's thing. Are you quite alright? You sound a little anxious.

CockacidalManiac · 12/12/2016 14:39

Got any booze for t'baby?

Allfednonedead · 12/12/2016 15:21

I think I'm pretty relaxed about food, but I am pretty strict about no chocolate after about 4pm, and limited amounts earlier in the day.

It has significant amounts of caffeine in and 2 of my 3 DC are very sensitive. If DS had 4 squares of chocolate at 10 pm, he'd be awake till midnight. And he's 5, not 1.
OP, YANBU.

UserWhatever · 12/12/2016 15:32

Shrug. My sister hands her barely 2 year old DD kinder bars and kinder cereal bars for breakfast if she wont eat her real breakfast.

She has been stuffing pom bears for months long before she was 2.

I personally wouldn't feed it to such young children but my younger niece seems ok and i cant really criticise someone elses parenting.

UserWhatever · 12/12/2016 15:33

My sister also fed her dominos when we had it .....

Dixie my sister is obsessed with them eating something. she has food issues

When they wake up from naps....as soon as her eyes were open in the buggy outside she hands her a fucking pom bears.

I finally said to her no wonder she wont eat her meals if you keep filling her up with junk. I got graciously told to mind my own fucking business.

Right. That was me told.

UserWhatever · 12/12/2016 16:00

She has been eating chocolate cake and god knows what since 1. The older one too.

LottieDoubtie · 12/12/2016 16:45

Grin quite alright thanks! This is like twighlight MN.

00100001 · 12/12/2016 19:19

lottie there is 0.5g-1.7g of salt per slice of Dominoes pizza

So assume the child had the "worst" pizza. The poster has already said they had a few mouthfuls - let's say they had 1/2 a slice of pizza for the sake of hyperbole.

The child had at most 0.7g of salt - let's go crazy and round it up to 1g of salt. You know... for the hyperbole.

The child in question is 13 months.

NHS Guidelines state that a child 1-3 years should have a max of 2g of salt per day.

So it really is not a big deal that the child had some Dominoes pizza as a one off.

LottieDoubtie · 12/12/2016 22:42

Grin and I need to chill out? That's some proper research.

Let's say for the sake of argument you're right.

Great, crack on. It's still not what I would consider acceptable food for a baby or toddler. We're all different, makes the world go round and all that.

My instinctive reaction remains as stated upthread that I think it's shocking, and I, and everyone I know wouldn't do it.

MrsA2015 · 12/12/2016 23:36

Oh dear... in all honesty there's worse foods to feed children of any age but I do think 1-2 yr olds shouldn't have too much junk. I'm hoping to instill the whole "treats on Weeke ds/occasions" thing when she's older as opposed to rewarding with food. parenting is difficult with all the do's and don'ts

OP posts:
layercake9 · 12/12/2016 23:48

Why do some parents feed their children so much junk and rubbish?

With regards to advise on here about using Vicks on children under 2, please be careful as it's unsafe for under 2s.

MrsA2015 · 13/12/2016 00:57

Probably because it's easy instant happiness, I use snufflebabe it's like vicks just baby friendly Smile

OP posts:
kali110 · 13/12/2016 02:03

That's a really shocking thing?
That a poorly child had a few bites of a pizza Hmm

kali110 · 13/12/2016 02:07

user1480946351 · 13/12/2016 02:20

Why do some parents feed their children so much junk and rubbish?

Oooh, ooh, I know this one! Cos we are evil harridans too lazy to make them organic quinoa and kale? Cos we are trying to send society to hell in a handcart?
