To wonder why anyone would order from an Avon person?

Got a thing through 'orders collected Nov 27th for delivery Dec 16th'

Why would you wait 2 weeks when you can go online and get your items delivered within a couple of days? And you know if they are in stock or not immediately?

I don't get it :/

motivation to buy sounds like pity/social obligation.

Ginmakesitallok · 30/11/2016 07:55

Mil buys stuff religiously, whether she wants stuff or not. Guilt.

NancyDonahue · 30/11/2016 08:04

I totally get that there's a generation who still like to buy from the door. I live in an area with a highly elderly population and the milkman does a roaring trade.

As well as not really rating Avon products, I just don't buy stuff from friends. I have dutifully attended body shop parties etc in the past but generally regretted my purchases afterwards. The latest 'thing' is online 'Jamberry' parties - avoiding like the plague.

I prefer to support my friends in other ways, lifts, picking kids up from school etc.

Yes I agree Narnian the ordering system was awful but I felt like I offered a good service. I was sad to give it up but I had returned to work and it got too much.

I buy from Avon out of nostalgia really - I used to get so excited about my Nana's Avon catalogue when it came.

I would never buy the makeup but the bath and shower stuff and the hair stuff is very good and inexpensive.

I'm also disappointed about the lack of Pretty Peach and picture soaps :(

BusterGonad · 30/11/2016 09:17

I'd enjoy nothing more at this minute than having a cuppa and flicking through a Avon book. I just love it. When I visit my mum I always ask if she has a Avon book. Grin

Honeydragon · 30/11/2016 09:36

I've always bought Avon regularly and use whoever the local rep is. No pity buying here.

UterusUterusGhali · 30/11/2016 09:38

I used to because the local avon lady would stop for a cuppa, and when my husband had just left I was a mess and she was a bit of a lifeline tbh.

LightDrizzle · 30/11/2016 09:46

Because she's someone to talk to and they don't do the Internet. This is my mum. Ditto the Kleeneze man, - even though everything she buy from him is crap. I regularly see copies of The Watchtower on her kitchen table too. She think the Jehovah's Witnesses are lovely boys, so smartly dressed and polite, and even though she has no truck with all that bible nonsense, she has "lovely interesting conversations" with them.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 30/11/2016 10:17

I order their glimmersticks but I do it online and get home delivery even though it costs £3.50. (Items just posted through letterbox)

When I had a person bringing it, it was really odd - I had to make sure I was in at the right time and then she came and sat on my sofa whilst I had to log in on my laptop and pay on paypal. She also brought her boyfriend.

Although I'm all for supporting people trying to make a little cash, I didn't like having 2 strangers in the house. Not sure if my experience is typical.

Honeydragon · 30/11/2016 10:27

No it's not typical. You pay on receipt of goods with cash or cheque, or order and direct to your rep online.

Yamadori · 30/11/2016 10:33

I had a catalogue through the door about 10 days ago and didn't want to order anything, so I put the catalogue in its bag outside by the doorstep for collection. It's still there.

enchantmentandlove · 30/11/2016 12:07

I wouldn't call it pity, no. Just like I buy handmade hair accessories for dd from Etsy, or veg from the market. If I want those things anyway it's just nice to know your helping someone local too. If I didn't like Avon stuff I wouldn't buy it.

DolomphiousDuck · 30/11/2016 12:46

I get very irritated with Avon. They send their reps lists of email addresses without any requirements for the reps to comply with data protection and keep info securely. As a result the only time I had contact with an Avon rep it has resulted in years of spam and phishing emails. No other company gets away with being so careless with customer information.

WamBamThankYouMaam · 30/11/2016 12:54

Because it suits them?

I mean why does anyone order online rather than go into a shop where they can see and feel the product?

Why does anyone go into a shop when they can order online and have the item delivered to their home?

Avon sellers often sell through social media these days so it's just as convenient as any other means of shopping I'd have thought.

Monkeybunkey · 30/11/2016 12:56

My best friend is an Avon lady. She lives miles away from me but I can order online via her Avon store and get next day delivery if I'm in a hurry for anything (and she still gets her share). They have a salted caramel shower gel and a chocolate orange bubble bath at the moment that I absolutely love. I was only going to order a "couple of bits" but I've now got two cupboards full of stuff (they often have "buy 4 for £5" on shower gel etc. so I stock up)!

woodhill · 30/11/2016 14:19

I pay my Avon lady cash or cheque
