Why are threads on Daily Mail ?

I am fed up of constantly seeing different threads from Mumsnet appearing on Daily Mail news online. The usernames are being quoted and it is concerning that confidentiality is being compromised .
Am I the alone in feeling that MN HQ should stop this or explain why this is being allowed to happen ?
This forum has always been a place for parents to discuss some sensitive and sometimes painful issues in their lives and it seems awful that they may see them rewritten in the Daily Mail.

You do not have any confidentiality to be compromised! If you post your stories online, in an open space, it can go anywhere and be used by anyone. This is not some cosy little club only open to a handful of nice mummies.

I think it is shitty too op. But this is a public forum, you don't need to be a member to register so anyone can read anything. Mnhq wouldn't do anything even if they could as it all drives traffic here and raises the name.

Seriously??? There are more threads about this than articles nicked by the Mail.

I'm not sure why that's so hard to understand...

I presume they do it to cut costs. A good half of their online content is lifted straight off Reddit.

They probably can pay much less to get someone to generate a few paragraphs from a Reddit or Mumsnet thread.

I'm not sure why people think what they write on here is confidential.

TBH the subjects reported aren't sensitive ones but the 'journalists' must be desperate (or crap) for them to just report a thread started on a forum.......

Perhaps you could ask Mumsnet for a refund.

Or, perhaps you're the product.

Mumsnet when it first started was a much friendlier forum. Now you feel like you get slapped down for any comment.
Daily Mail please take the lot !!

Mumsnet can still be a very friendly, kind and compassionate place. You just have to read the right threads.

I think it's time HQ put up a sticky thread explaining this whole caper.

Actually, there was a sensitive thread on the DM today - the one about not expecting partners to cheat. Lots of posters shared really sad and personal stories on that thread, so the DM don't just fish for the Penis Beakery type stuff.

I never understand why MN always hates the DM yet there are so many DM links on it. If you read the DM site you are a DM reader even if you never buy a paper copy.

Do people not get that sites like MN are a business? They do not exist for your benefit, but for their own. As pp said, when you are not the consumer, that means you are the product.

Who has copyright of what's written here? Without going back to whatever I signed to join the site, it must be either me or MN. I would have noticed if it said it's Creative Commons.

Therefore if another site lifts stuff from here, payment is due, at NUJ rates for example. If the DM just posts a link, that's fair referencing, but copying whole threads is theft, surely? I have copyright of what I put on my own blog.

(I get very cross, then I invoice, when my photos turn up elsewhere that I have eg put on my blog, they are how I pay my bills. Just because it's online doesn't mean it's 'free'.)

Copyright is simple.

You own it. By posting you grant MN a non-exclusive licence to publish. "Journalists" who link or screen shot just a few posts from a thread are within "fair use" limits.

That also has been clarified by MNHQ more than once, and is standard across pretty much all social media.
