What age do babies normally pick up words? I swear to god my lg Is say 'herro' after daddy has been saying it over and over.. along with mama. I didn't think this could happen for months yet??

Believe what you will! - I am sure that you are absolutely right that he is a genius!

She is not talking. You're looking at another 13/4 months or so. Then give it another year and you'all begin wishing you hadn't taught her...

He's probably mimicking the sounds you are making even if he doesn't understand what he is saying

My DD made a sound that was very like "mum" from a few weeks old but I know it was just baby babbling. She didn't start doing it consistently until about 9 months and then it was "dada" when DH came in from work.

Ha!! Yanbu. My DS said 'herro' at 12 weeks. He only did it once (at that age) but he was watching me say hello hello to him, and responded with 'herro'! Two baby geniuses! (Geneii?)

I definitely believe you. My dd started saying 'Hiya' from 9 weeks old. And hasn't shut up since. She even talks in her sleep

My cats can say hello. OK, it sounds like mew- new but the inflection and context are perfect!

YANBU but be aware that I allegedly said my first word at less than 5 months and I am most certainly not a genius.

My 5 month old makes sounds like herro, mamma and dadda. But they are just that.. sounds. hes a genius really

Mothers are referred to as mama/mummy etc because that is a natural noise that babies make. That is how the word came to be associated with mothers. It is not likely to be your child knowing and producing a word at this stage.

Can't answer you on 'herro', though!

Yanbu, DS2 is 4 months old and he tries to copy the sounds I make. However don't be so silly as to think he understands

Even if she's just mimicking me im just amazed how clever they can be so young!

My dd made a "quack quack" sound in the right places in the song five little ducks.
She was number 4 so I was way past trying to have a genius child

Lol ds also tries to copy - he's 4 months and does a pretty good "yeah". You can get him to agree to anything, it's brilliant!
Me: ds, should I eat the rest if this chocolate?
Ds: yeah
Me: let's not tell your sisters
Ds: yeah, drool... . (can you tell I'm a bit delirious with sleep deprivation? )

He also copies a good "herro".

I don't remember his older sisters making noises like this at this age - they just made a funny chirruping sound for months then both started talking at 9-10 months. Neither really babbled.

It's called 'Echolalia' and is the basis of formation of vocal language. So she possibly is attempting to form words said to her repetitively, but doesn't understand its meaning.

My DS did said the same around this time, but in the waiting room at the baby clinic to a couple of HV's. A couple of months later a different HV told me about this amazing baby a few months earlier that had said 'Hello', so I introduced her to the talking baby

"Herro" Love it! It's possible...some can imitate at this age.
