To iron my clothes

Why be creased?

OP posts:
Auntpodder · 25/11/2016 10:09

Hate ironing. Historically think I suit a slightly creased look but have found myself wondering if I should buy this www.amazon.co.uk/Breeze%C2%AE-Garment-Steamer-Portable-Ultra-fast/dp/B015WGK3D0/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 on the basis that it's less faff than getting the ironing board out on the odd occasion...

Loubilou09 · 25/11/2016 10:19

Calling people a twat for having a differing opinion to you also says an awful lot about you!

LucretiaBourgeois · 25/11/2016 10:19

I iron - or because I hate doing it I mostly pay someone to iron for me. I'm convinced most of my clothes would be too crumpled to wear without losing my self- respect otherwise. OTOH, dd doesn't own an iron and I can't think of a time when I've looked at her, her dp or the dgc and thought they looked crumpled or scruffy, so I admire her for having discovered a secret that's always eluded me.

interstellarcloudofdust · 25/11/2016 10:24

I iron my pyjamas Grin

NerrSnerr · 25/11/2016 10:24

Oh bugger. You're a twat! Huge grammar fail!

PenguinsandPebbles · 25/11/2016 10:41

I iron my pyjamas

I do too Grin

PenguinsandPebbles · 25/11/2016 10:41

And my cotton bedsheets

Eolian · 25/11/2016 10:44

YANBU but I almost never iron. I might iron if I had bugger all else to do. I iron the odd thing if it's really really creased or if I'm going somewhere smart, which happens very rarely.

LaurieMarlow · 25/11/2016 10:46

My workplace is full of uber cool hipsters. Ironing is an alien concept to them. I'm judged for not having sufficient rips in my clothes.

agedknees · 25/11/2016 10:58

I iron. I love ironing. Even use spray starch on cotton dresses and shirts so they look fresh.

Each to their own.

Loubilou09 · 25/11/2016 11:11

I noticed the grammar fail NerrSnerr and I sniggered at the irony of you calling someone else a twat.

LaurieMarlow · 25/11/2016 11:28

You're coming across like a total charmer on this thread Lou.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/11/2016 11:38

Once clothes have been worn for the time it takes to get out of the house, and go anywhere, they don't look much different whether they have been ironed or not. Hence it is a total waste of time, but each to their own.

NerrSnerr · 25/11/2016 11:38

Ha ha. Lou, you're coming across as lovely. I honestly don't know how people can give a shit about what others do with their clothes.

GoofyTheHero · 25/11/2016 11:57

If it says something about me that I think judgy people are twats then I'm happy about what it says about me TBH Grin

PickAChew · 25/11/2016 12:02

I do wear a lot of cotton (I hate wearing synthetics) so, even though I don't enjoy doing it overly much, I do end up doing a fair bit of ironing.

And clothes do feel better for it, as well as looking and hanging better. Makes a tedious task quite satisfying.

GoofyTheHero · 25/11/2016 12:08

Oh and one of the best people I've ever interviewed (for a very senior position in a large bank) was extremely crumpled. Looked like he'd got dressed in the dark. Amazing mind though, and has since proved to be excellent at his job.

DIYandEatCake · 25/11/2016 12:22

I admire anyone organised enough to iron. I really wish I could find the time - but other things take priority (and no I hardly ever watch tv before anyone suggests doing it then...!)

Loubilou09 · 25/11/2016 12:26

Weird that the two people who are calling others shallow, idiotic, a twat etc are also deciding who comes across as lovely or not. Bizarre..

Like it or not people are judging you the instant you walk out the door, the whole of life is generally a competition. You will get judged at every step of the way right from a small child. If your child and another child have done an excellent on building a model for a school competition but one is pristine and clean and the other one is full of jam stains, we all know which one will win. If your answer is wrong in a test but your handwriting is perfect and presentation brilliant, you might get another point.

If you saw a politician get up on a podium in a creased shirt it would be all over the news the next day. The actual words he/she said would be irrelevant everything would be about the creased shirt.

If a midwife came round looking scruffy and unkempt you might wonder about her hygiene standards.

Like it or not, argue all you like, call people all the names under the sun but people judge by the image you and yours portray. If you think you look good enough by not ironing your clothes or whatever then that really is your look out and I couldn't care less what you do!

However for me, in my world, I would rather portray a different image.

There really is no need to get upset and start frothing and hand wringing and slinging insults Smile

VinegarTits · 25/11/2016 12:27

I iron boxer shorts, pj's, teatowels, and bedding

VinegarTits · 25/11/2016 12:30

my boss doesn't iron...her wardrobe is very limited...to woolly jumpers and elasticated synthetic trousers

She is lovely but not very well presented and people don't take her seriously in the business, they often think I am her boss

Like I said, all my clothes are ironed. In fact most are dry cleaned so no need for ironing. I look great, thanks Grin.

LunaMay · 25/11/2016 12:49

I can't remember the last time I used my iron! I'm lucky enough to have a work uniform that doesn't need ironing, not really sure what the fabric is but doesn't wrinkle.
My first job was in a caravan park and I was responsible for the laundry as well, oh how I loved ironing all the bedding and tea towels etc it was strangely satisfying. Now I want to empty my linen closet and iron and fold all nicely again Grin

KatharinaRosalie · 25/11/2016 12:51

She is lovely but not very well presented and people don't take her seriously in the business - but despite all your ironing, somehow she's the boss..

Eolian · 25/11/2016 12:57

I might not take someone seriously at work if their clothes were dirty or an absolute crumpled mess, but judging people on a bit of light creasing is ridiculous. I'm glad I don't work in the kind of job where people make a big deal about that sort of thing.
