AIBU to ask if Jo Malone perfumes are worth it?

This really. I really like two of their fragrances but they're so much more expensive that my usual perfume.
Does anyone really rate them? Does the scent last on you all day?

I had a spritz at selfridges but had been (stupidly) wearing perfume already so couldn't really tell if it was still on by the evening.

"except when required by law"

This means China. China will only have cosmetics/perfumes on sale if they have been tested on animals.

Any company selling to China slaps this phrase onto their website. It means "we might not want to, but our ethics only go so far, at the end of the day we want the ££££ that comes from the Chinese market"

Jo Malone/Jo Loves are listed on every beauty without testing website as a company which does test.

VintagePerfumista · 22/11/2016 18:08

Animal testing within the EU banned since 2013 not 2003.

The companies do their testing outside the EU now.

VodkaValiumLattePlease · 22/11/2016 18:08

Allthebest
You've missed a bit out there 'expect where required by law'

Jo Malone sells in China, which requires animal testing.. so jo malone do test on animals. They're also owned by Estée Lauder which brands under their umbrella do test on animals so either way your money goes towards testing on animals.

I have had a bottle for over a year, wear it daily, and still have 1/4-1/3 left in the bottle. However I don't really think the scent lasts all day on me or at least is quite subtle - I love the smell of it but haven't ever had compliments on it..

Temporaryname137 · 22/11/2016 18:10

From what I found, Estee Lauder tests on animals; Estee Lauder owns Jo Malone therefore that = testing on animals for me :( :( :(

2legit2knit · 22/11/2016 18:15

Same sources as these ^ guys. It's hard to find cosmetics that aren't tested on animals. Almost all the big perfume brands do!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/11/2016 18:15

I buy the JM scents from Perfume Parlour, smell the same and last ages plus the price means I can buy loads!

derxa · 22/11/2016 18:17

Love her Grapefruit one. The only scent I use.

StarkintheSouth · 22/11/2016 18:17

I only wear JM Pomegranate Noir, I love it and it makes me happy every time I smell it. Expensive yes, but I find it lasts and I don't need to douse myself in it. If you can afford, then yes, definitely go for it.

elodie2000 · 22/11/2016 18:17

No, not worth it at all!
Very clever marketing but JM is just another generic brand.
Jo Malone sold out to Estée Lauder just like Anita Roddick/Body shop sold out to L'Oréal.

shins · 22/11/2016 18:18

No. All top notes. There are far more interesting perfumes out there that are less overpriced and every second person won't be wearing.

I love Jo Malone secrets, but I don't find any of them really last on me,

PerfumeAndCatsAndBooks · 22/11/2016 18:46

dame or anyone, Have you tried the Perfume Parlour Pomengranete Noir and if so, please could you tell me what it's like?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/11/2016 18:49

Perfume- no, I haven't got that one but read the reviews on PP they're usually pretty honest.

TheHighPriestessOfTinsel · 22/11/2016 18:54

DH got me the peony and blush suede one last year. It was lovely, but didn't seem to last at all, certainly not when compared with a Chanel EDT.

PerfumeAndCatsAndBooks · 23/11/2016 09:19

Thanks dame at PP prices I might give it a whirl. I like the smell of the (black bottles) JMs but they don't seem to suit my skin and go a bit air freshener-y after a bit but maybe the PP ones might not.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/11/2016 09:52

Ime the oils are nicer than the sprays from PP.

NothingIsOK · 23/11/2016 11:21

I love the scent, but no, it doesn't last long. Don't think I would buy again due to the short lived thing.

ThursdayNextIsMyHero · 23/11/2016 11:26

I second the earlier comments - I like the scents but find they last a really short period of time on me. When I mentioned this to a sales assistant, they said I needed the body lotion as well to layer it, but I refuse to buy additional (expensive) items. If the scent doesn't last, I don't see that there's any guarantee that the lotion will.

Colby43443 · 23/11/2016 11:38

not compared to chanel no 5, or guerlin.

Giselaw · 23/11/2016 11:50

Fuuuuuuuck!!!

I didn't know este Lauder bought out Frederic Malle. A year ago?!

www.crueltyfreekitty.com/news/estee-lauder-acquires-frederic-malle-le-labo-rodin/

Does anyone know if I can still stock up on the original Malle perfumes or if they already started fucking it all up?! Sad

Ilovenannyplum · 23/11/2016 12:02

Yes 100% worth it. I usually save them for special Occasions. Just had a bridal consultation for my wedding next month and I can't wait to wear the ones I've picked out Grin

PerfumeAndCatsAndBooks · 23/11/2016 12:29

The layering with body scent, yes it helps in an ideal world. For those of us on tighter budgets, rubbing a bit of Vaseline, or unscented lotion, on skin before applying perfume helps with longevity. I got this tip from the Perfume thread here so can't take the credit for it; but it works for me!

twilightcafe · 23/11/2016 12:38

I've tried a lot of the PP Jo Malone smell-a-likes and been impressed by most of them.

The only ones that disappointed me were Red Roses and Blackberry and Bay, which didn't smell close enough to the original.

I'm wearing PP's version of Chanel No 5, and it smells just like the original (and is a fraction of the price)
