AIBU?

He's going to end up sleeping on the sofa at this rate!

Stupid argument but it's really starting to piss me off!
I can't sleep when it's hot. Even in winter, I like to have the window cracked open slightly so there's a fresh breeze around the room. Our room gets quite stuffy because we have the heating on at the night for the kids, and we don't like coming down to a cold living room.
He insists on keeping the window closed because he doesn't like being cold. Aibu in thinking that's what the bloody duvet is for? He can easily warm up, but I can't as easily cool down in a warm stuffy room.

for ventilation with reduced cold, prop the door open a bit.

For incompatible warmth requirements, get a double electric blanket with dual controls. They are sized a bit skimpy, so get a King and it will fit a Double mattress.

Never have the heating on at night it is unbearable, I haven't told DH that we are still using the summer duvet either. I know I am 50 and warmer than at other times of my life, but the way he lives is unbearable.

I'm the same, I can't bear a warm bedroom. We sleep in a loft room which is very well insulated and we use a summer duvet all year round. I have a nightly battle with husband over having the window open.

I agree that you don't need heating on overnight. We never do. Well, it's set on 12C on the thermostat so if it gets colder in the house than that, the heating clicks on. It never does though. Kids will soon learn that if they're cold to pull the duvets back over them.

Another one with an all night open window , and radiator on 2. My theory is that plenty of oxygen helps you sleep better. As long as the bed is warm cold air is not problem.

I'm with you. We have the window open every night whatever season it is. It's essential fresh air. Only the duvet changes.

Heating on at night! I'd hate your fuel bills.

We do the separate duvets thing too - I use a 1-tog one in the winter (good old M&S) and an empty cover in the summer, he has a thick duvet.

We have the same argument. We have the heating on until we go to bed and the turn it off and have the window open a crack. My OH still isn't happy but it the best compromise we've come up with. Maybe buy him a nice blanket to sweeten the deal?

I'm with you. Have to have the window open, even when it well below 0. I wake up with a headache if I don't. My neighbours think I'm mad.

So last night we kept the heating off. Aired the room for half an hour before bedtime. My youngest woke up at 4am because he was wet through his pj's and freezing. The house was so cold. No problemo, timer comes on at 5.30. House lovely and warm when we got up to start the day.
Our bedroom was still sweaty and gross though. How much body heat do adults produce! 😂

Why was your youngest wet? Had he wet the bed?

He's two and still in nappies, but drinks like a horse

Okay so not because it was cold. Sounds as though things have improved.

Who sleeps closest to the window. If it's you then k think it's reasonable to crack it open at night.

You can sleep nude and he can cuddle up close to keep him warm - problems solved..[Wink]

I have to have the window open in all weathers. Otherwise how would you get that lovely feeling of a freezing cold cool pillow against your face?

I'm with you OP. I always have our bedroom window open, come rain, shine, snow, wind, you get the idea! Fortunately my husband is the same so no argument. It does get cold but we have an electric blanket and heavy duvet. We just like the fresh air 😀

I'm totally with you! Have this argument constantly - When we don't have window open I feel like I "can't breath". I need the fresh air and I love being little bit cold so can get cosy under duvet. Optimum temp for sleeping peacefully is 18.5 but my DH would rather it be 22. Always argue he can just add aborted layer of clothing if cold what am I supposed to do? Peel off a layer of skin???

I'd hate the window open as I get a cold nose and can't sleep. I'd suggest airing out the room before bed too.

Does no one worry about the security of an open window while asleep? Chance burglaries are not unknown.

I love having the window open, and would never have the heating on all night! That must be really expensive and I wouldn't sleep in the stuffiness. My dds room is very cold, in frosty weather the temperature would be in single figures and when she was little I would leave a plug in radiator in her room, set very low just to bump the temp up a few degrees. It's cheaper to warm one room than a whole house. Why don't you set the heating to come on half an hour before you get up so the living room is warm? You can buy a timer switch to connect to your boiler for a few pounds if you don't have one.

I don't like the heating on at night, and we have a window one. DH takes two hot water bottles (one for feet, one for back).

I am a real hot body, and I also can't sleep with any limbs outside of the blankets (I know it's stupid, but I fear the monsters under the bed - they eat the bits of you that are sticking out, except for heads . . . ). Because I am always tucked in, I am always hot and that icy blast breath of fresh air coming through the window is fabulous.
