Stupid argument but it's really starting to piss me off!
I can't sleep when it's hot. Even in winter, I like to have the window cracked open slightly so there's a fresh breeze around the room. Our room gets quite stuffy because we have the heating on at the night for the kids, and we don't like coming down to a cold living room.
He insists on keeping the window closed because he doesn't like being cold. Aibu in thinking that's what the bloody duvet is for? He can easily warm up, but I can't as easily cool down in a warm stuffy room.

FrizzySpiders can come and go as they please. Have several in each room and they dont bother me so I dont bother them. DD has named hers and is delighted there are babies.

Window open all year round, nice snuggly brushed cotton duvet cover to keep me warm at night.

We dont even have our heating on yet! But then we have a draughty house with night storage heating which is rubbish and not worth payong for.

Oh, and we live in a new house so really low energy bills but the damn thing won't cool down! Upstairs is horrific in summer, and I am positively obsessive about heat control then.

How do you all with windows open cope with the spiders? I would love to have the window open (I'm always hot: summer duvet, naked sleeping, no heating at night even in the depths of winter) but I can't because of spiders. And they do come in, massive ones, if you do. Windows closed, no spiders

We don't have a window open - but if we had that much heating on, OP, we definitely would.

We live in a Victorian terrace and tend to only put the heating on for an hour or two after work - unless someone is ill and home all day. So it's nice and cool in the bedroom for sleeping, as it should be - it's definitely advised you sleep better in a cool room.

I'm with you OP, I can't bear sleeping in a room unless the window is open.
I think It's unhealthy to sleep in a heated room. Just make sure that there are enough bedclothes to keep warm. Much healthier.

I have this exact same problem, minus the heating. I leave the window slightly open (unless I know there is a storm coming, i.e a couple of nights ago), just need fresh air in the room, I leave the bedroom door open too. I find that if everything is closed I wake up with a headache, sore, dry throat and feel realy groggy - of course I could be being gassed by DH's trumping! I normally go to bed after my husband so he doesnt even know that ive opened the window!

I'm like you OP, window is open 24/7 365 days a year. DH does not like to be cold, so he has a 14.5 tog duvet (I have a 4.5 tog duvet all year round) and I got him an electric blanket so his side of the bed is heated up when he gets in. I suffer from migraines and one night in a stuffy unventilated room will cause a couple of days of hell for me.
I'm from Norway and have done this all my life, through far chillier nights than we get in the UK.

It's odd that so many people like "fresh" air and so have the window open... why not just invest in a few decent house plants? You're much more likely to have good quality air in the house that way.

These things are not mutually exclusive. I have houseplants and open windows.

I'm suffering at the moment because The Pet is sick and needs a warm environment. Because we are renovating we don't have any internal doors (except the bathroom) so the whole house is warm. Too warm for me.

I'm hoping the little pickle gets better at all soon.

I don't know how people sleep with their windows closed, it's far too stuffy.

House plants don't do the same job, nor do fans, and I hate them both.

No, I like actual cold air. House plants don't cool the air down, do they?
I like to be warm under my duvet but to put my head on a cold pillow, and feel cold air.
To get to sleep I imagine I am sleeping outdoors, in my tent.

My other half won't sleep without the window open. It can be blowing a gale and rattling but he still won't close it. He's a farmer and obsessed with us having burglars. He won't hear them with the window shut.
I can't imagine having the heating on all night. We have it on for one hour in the morning and 2 hours evening. We do have a log fire in the living room and an Aga on in the kitchen. So the downstairs is warm.
None of the children are cold. In fact my 7 year old has a summer duvet all year round. If I put a winter one on he's always wet when I check on him. (He sleeps underneath)

Feel old, I was in 20s before our farmhouse had central heating, fire in one room only. Ice on inside of windows in morning and first up cleaned and lit fire! Now can't sleep unless bedroom is cold or cool depending on season!

Definitely not a weirdo! I have my window open all year round & only a 2 tog on my bed! I only wear pants in bed and I still get hot! Glad I don't have anyone to moan about my arrangements!

Having trained my ex to need fresh air even through ice snow and howling gales, it was a shock to the system to find myself in a relationship with a man who wanted a warm airless bedroom. I genuinely feel ill if I'm too hot, so the first time I stayed over I told him that this was non negotiable, and if he wanted me to stay, the window would have to be open. He moans occasionally, when his head is up his arse about something else, but for the most part he's accepted it. My compromise is the winter duvet coming out in October, rather than only when it's actually sub zero. I would still get rid of that, given half a chance.

Firstly OP, it really isn't a stupid argument. Considering how long you spend in bed every single night, it can be of key importance in a relationship. I'm genuinely not sure I could sustain a relationship with someone who had such opposing views as myself. It may sound pathetic, but it's such a long term issue which you will come up against every single night.

Having said all that, I am very much on your DHs side. I can't sleep when I'm cold. Yes, I do wear winter pyjamas. Yes, we have a thick winter duvet and now have an electric blanket switched on before getting in, but before we got that, I was going to bed in socks and with two hot water bottles on my feet and body.

OP - He can easily warm up, but I can't as easily cool down in a warm stuffy room.
Not necessarily easy to warm up and it can be equally impossible to sleep if you can't get warm.
Luckily my DH also hates being cold so no bed-time arguments.

Nope, not unreasonable at all! I can't bear being in a house with no air, whatever the weather is doing. I am currently staying with my PILs and have taken myself off to my room to sit by an open window for ten minutes!

We have never had the heating on at night, even when our boys were newborns. They are 12, 9 and 5 now....all fine.

Another open window bedroom here at night although I get colder than DH, heating goes off at 10ish but our bedroom radiator is never on unless it gets regularly below freezing.
Extra throws on bed for those colder nights may help?
