Dropped my new iPhone se in the bath tonight in a freak accident, it properly sank. So did my heart.

Fished it out after a few seconds and was to see it still worked. Googled and apparently they've made them virtually waterproof, as are the 6s and 7s.

Yay!! Thought I'd share the happy results of my unintentional experimentation.

I think you got lucky. If it was waterproof Apple would market that as a brilliant new feature.

Make sure it dries properly, you don't want any water at all on the charger contacts.

You're lucky you didn't get electrocuted.

You can't get electrocuted off an iPhone in the bath... Unless it was plugged in and charging

Stick it in some rice overnight OP. Sometimes it takes water a while to do damage

Agree with PP, bowl of rice straight away regardless of if it is 'waterproof' or not!

It's water resistant not waterproof. If it was submerged, I would always turn it off immediately and pop in a zip lock bag or sealed Tupperware full of rice for a minimum of 24hr before turning back on. Any moisture inside could short circuit something as it moves around. This won't happen if you turn it off until you are certain it's dry!

How on earth can you electrocute yourself if it has no electricity going thru it? Unless it was on charge of course

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty.

Ah - this might be a temporary state of happiness then. Turning off to recuperate somewhere warm and dry.

Rice thing isn't a myth. It's a dessicant. Not the best one granted, but usually the best one people have lying around the house. If you have any of those little silica packets for new shoes or handbags they work much better (inside a sealed bag/box with the phone).

I was thinking if you plugged it in thinking it was dry but the elements inside were still wet.

But yes sounds like the kind of mistake I'd make. Was so much easier dropping a bulky Nokia down the Loo.

In a similar situation I also gave all the accessible orifices a quick blast with the hairdryer (not sure this is recommended though...)

It took me ages to dry out mine when DD2(9 months) decided to dribble all over it!

I'm afraid water damage can take a while to properly damage the phone sorry

The 6s definitely isn't waterproof. Mine got drowned in my gym bag and died instantly.

I did the exact same thing with mine 6S when I'd only had it for three days. I took the sim card out, turned it off and stuck it in rice. Took it to the Apple Store the next day and the water damage indicator (didn't know there was one) hadn't been triggered. He opened it up and said there was no sign of any damage but that water could take a while.

That was last Christmas so 11 months later it's still going strong so you can be lucky!

6s definitely I not.

Oh and mine was in the toilet for literally 2 seconds, I moved fast. Water indicators were activated.

Part of the reason for removing the headphone socket on the 7 range was the water resistant feature. Don't think I'll be trying it out though !
