Dropped my new iPhone se in the bath tonight in a freak accident, it properly sank. So did my heart.

Fished it out after a few seconds and was Shock to see it still worked. Googled and apparently they've made them virtually waterproof, as are the 6s and 7s.

Yay!! Thought I'd share the happy results of my unintentional experimentation.

My 6s went for a dive off the kitchen bench into to dog bowl, completely immersed.

I fished it straight out and all seems well. That was months ago now, and touch wood, no problems as yet.

Only bloody time I've had any luck with technology

Ironically I was reaching up to a cabinet for a mindfulness relaxation magazine (stressful week) from the bath when it happened.

Didn't realise the phone was on top so properly lobbed it in. I'm such a dick.

I did this when I got mine too! I got it the day it came out, and about two days later had the accident. Bath was almost full, I was standing in bathroom texting or something (not yet in bath) and husband gave me such a fright (accidental) that it flew out of my hands and yep, typically straight into bath. Took a few seconds to fish it out (bubbles!!) but it was still on, switched it off but not too long later I put it on and it's been totally fine.

Has been absolutely fine since but definitely would not want to risk it again!

CheesyWeez · 21/11/2016 08:48

I put mine in a very very low oven (50 degrees C). It would not get hotter than if it was lying in the sun on warm day, which wouldn't damage it. This dried my phone out - the screen had gone all steamy.
You can still pick things up at 50 degrees C, for reference the hottest object you can pick up comfortably with your hands is 60°C

AssembleTheMinions · 21/11/2016 08:53

The SE is most certainly not waterproof.

BoopTheSnoot · 21/11/2016 09:01

Just had to say, the rice thing is a myth. If your phone dries out successfully, it would have done so anyway, regardless of whether or not it was in rice. Best thing to do is switch it off and place on a flat surface to dry.
(Work for a very large mobile phone network and retailer)

Liiinoo · 21/11/2016 09:19

I am so sad that the rice thing is a myth. We have used it several times and it always seemed like magic. But what Boop says rings true- they would probably been ok if we had just put them in the airing cupboard.

Only 9.18 on Monday morning and another illusion shattered. 😕

BrieAndChilli · 21/11/2016 09:29

I dropped my SE in a cup of tea! Immediately turned it off and put in a jar of rice for 24 hours. It has worked fine ever since (a couple of months ago)
I think my 99p cover saved it as it has little tabs that close over the charger and head phone sockets so stopped water going inside

MoonfaceAndSilky · 21/11/2016 09:32

Rice thing isn't a myth. It's a dessicant. Not the best one granted, but usually the best one people have lying around the house. If you have any of those little silica packets for new shoes or handbags they work much better
Yes, we used rice and those little silica packs when my Ds's water bottle leaked all over his phone - it worked like magic Wink

teenyrabbit · 21/11/2016 10:40

I dropped my iPhone 6 in a cup of tea and it stopped working straight away, screen went black and then it got really, really hot.

Rice didn't work :( boo

StStrattersOfMN · 21/11/2016 11:32

Mine got drowned in a puddle of hot sweet milky coffee, and survived. Had a cracked screen too.

whirlygirly · 21/11/2016 18:05

God we're all clumsy. Grin

Well it's still working fine, touch wood..

If you pop out the SIM slot and shine a light in there, there should be a little white dot. If it's gone red, there's water damage. If not, you're a lucky ducky and should be on your way to the shop for a lottery ticket!

whirlygirly · 26/11/2016 17:11

Ooh thanks captain. I almost don't want to tamper with it as it's been absolutely fine and knowing me, I'd drop it trying to get the sim out or something Grin
