Just called in for a drink at a lively looking country pub, only to find the phrase 'I like my whiskey old and my women young' in large letters on the wall.

I understand that it's meant to be funny, but little digs at women and their appearance are apparent in too many places. I'm not outraged enough to 'complain', rather more disapointed that these views are so normalised. What do you think? Is it appropriate?

Thats pinpointed why it does grate on me, implicitly equating women with something to be consumed.

More depressing than the existence of the wall quote (which is pretty bad) is the people piling on to insist that if the OP cares about this she much spend ages wound up/she's over sensitive.

She's allowed to be offended without having her character sneered at by people who think she shouldn't be.

Harmless.

Twee.

And not harmless. Or funny.

Lass I agree all day long that it's naff. And I hadn't thought of it as a woman is something to be consumed. That does change it for me. But I don't think I'd be put out by it.
