House of Fraser ad - steaming pile of wank?

Don't watch much tv but this ad has just stuck out for me - in that I want to hurl something at the telebox every time it's on. It's awful.
Who is it aimed at?
Does anyone like it?
Why?

Yes it was - great song. Can't stand 'ready or not' though.

Edgy = good
Aggressive = the wrong note

Why on earth would aggression and general pouty jerky grumpiness be considered a perfect Christmas vibe?

I get they want to be different, & yes the happy ever after saccharinity is boak-worthy... but, really, how does this advert act as an antidote to all that?

It's a bit ranty and angsty. And actually, Christmas has enough of that already!

abigamarone · 19/11/2016 19:48

I like it. I approve of the greyhaired bloke in red tartan.
I can never remember whose ad it is though, keep thinking it's john Lewis or Debenhams.
I won't be shopping there either, so it's wasted on me.

pinkiponk · 19/11/2016 19:50

I also think it's crap, glad I'm not alone! Really confused branding if you ask me (but I'm also not their demographic at the grand old age of 30!)

quencher · 20/11/2016 00:28

I would love to rant about the whole racism on this thread but after of week Donald trump I don't have the energy. ShockHmm
This thread has answered a lot of personal questions I have always asked my self.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/11/2016 00:36

Racism?! Oh fgs.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/11/2016 00:36
Biscuit
HemanOrSheRa · 20/11/2016 00:39

Racism? What?

RestlessTraveller · 20/11/2016 00:44

I love it! The choreography is amazing!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/11/2016 00:45

This thread has answered a lot of personal questions I have always asked my self.

Where those questions "do people feel irritated by people repeatedly banging cutlery on a table and can I convey this into racism somehow?"

Lump me in with Trump because I don't like an advert? I don't fucking think so..... AngryAngryAngryAngry

I loathe the H of F one and most of the others. John Lewis one is nothing special, the hooligan jumping on her bed is annoying.

I like the Waitrose one and this one

Esker · 20/11/2016 05:35

The Tesco one is shit but in a way it made me respect Tesco more for refusing to spend ANY money on it. 'I know, let's just film a couple walking around one of our shops.'

Having said that, the script is unbelievably naff and dull and sexist. Women of course are responsible for thinking of everything at Christmas Hmm

parrots · 20/11/2016 07:45

Why do you think the thread is racist, quencher Confused

I find most Christmas ads pretty depressing, being little more than thinly-veiled clarion calls to consumerism. The JL penguin one was pretty cute, tho.

Capricorn76 · 20/11/2016 08:37

'There's more than one effnic in an advert, so the shop's against hard working white families. It's PC gawn mad I tells ya!!!-goes to Daily Mail comments to rant.

NoSunNoMoon · 20/11/2016 08:41

I love it. (white, middle class and over 40)

RainbowDashian · 20/11/2016 09:00

I find all the Christmas adverts really annoying except possibly the Waitrose one. It still goes on for far too long though.

Armi · 20/11/2016 09:04

I hate it, especially when they start leaping around in Department Store tat.

Armi · 20/11/2016 09:07

Esker, it's worth pointing out that in the Real World (not MN parallel universe where all housework is shared equally, all cooking done from scratch, all Christmas shopping done equally by all concerned and children are delighted to receive a hand knitted organic sprout as their only present) Christmas is mostly orchestrated by women.

Costacoffeeplease · 20/11/2016 09:13

I really like it, I liked last year's too and I'm a very untrendy 50+ Grin

Don't like the trampoline or the Mrs Claus one - can't even remember whose ads they are

Don't think I've seen sainsburys or aldi yet

SouthWestmom · 20/11/2016 09:31

It doesn't really fit with my experiences if HoF which is pretty out of budget for 18yr old dd (young, skinny, beautiful, fashion forward - refuses to set foot in it) and the place dh and I head for to buy clothes and cosmetics and handbags.

However I have noticed a creeping in of younger concessions so I wonder if this is ambitious and thinking ahead?

ShatnersBassoon · 20/11/2016 09:37

I also like this one, and I too am a fairly old, untrendy soul. I think it's fun and eye-catching, shows their products well and I quite fancy the grey-haired chap in it.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 20/11/2016 09:47

Ahhhh a place to vent my utter contempt for the muller ads - if I see fucking Nicole Shirtswinger ever so amusingly falling over/off her chair and cutely giggling when she realises she got yoghurt in her nose I will not be responsible for my actions.

I mean who the FUCK came up with that absolute tosh? Clearly a first week intern at the ad agency.

PaulDacresConscience · 20/11/2016 09:57

I quite like the Waitrose robin one - it's a nice message.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/11/2016 10:00

I can't really think of a Christmas ad I do like tbh. The one we're the sign the Reservior Dogs theme was entertaining first time but ironically now makes me want to cut off my own ears every time I hear it.

Lessthanaballpark · 20/11/2016 10:07

Oh I quite like it Blush I hate all those mushy saccharine "just working hard for my family" ones.
