House of Fraser ad - steaming pile of wank?

Don't watch much tv but this ad has just stuck out for me - in that I want to hurl something at the telebox every time it's on. It's awful.
Who is it aimed at?
Does anyone like it?
Why?

Oh god forbid there's am advert featuring mostly young people with a decent representation of different ethnicities. Don't we have enough stuff aimed at the white middle class over 40's? Hmm

I didn't like the advert but i did like the diversity.

surferjet · 19/11/2016 16:33

Love the song, love the dance, it's just so cool.

Sophia1984 · 19/11/2016 16:47

Thanks neonrainbow.. I was a bit baffled as to why someone would even notice let alone be put off by the ethnicity of the actors in an advert Hmm

mum11970 · 19/11/2016 16:47

I love it, really like the song.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 19/11/2016 16:48

It makes me irrationally angry. Especially the bit where they're banging on the table. Gives me major rage for some reason.

Novinosincebambino · 19/11/2016 16:51

Typical client probably saying 'right we need to feature absolutely everything we sell in one ad!' Poor ad agency, wouldn't like that brief. It's an assault on the senses. Last years ad was a bit unusual, had a good song and was eye catching - even though I'm far from target market I could see it was a good ad. This year they've tried to do the same again and it doesn't work. Would say it's lazy on the ad agency's part but I'm inclined to think it's the client to blame. John Lewis sells a feeling not every single bloody product in a 30 second ad. That's what print ads are for. Just my 2 cents!

The banging on the table bit is from last year, isn't it? And they've just re cut it with new dancey bits and changed the sound track.

I hated the table banging last year and I hate it again this year Grin And I like lots of Laura Mvula's music but not this one.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 19/11/2016 16:52

It would seem so, yes.

gunting · 19/11/2016 16:53

I find all of the HoF adverts annoying, they are too flashy and the songs are irritating. I guess I'm someone who they'd be targeting age wise.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 19/11/2016 16:53

I got angry at my newspaper this morning when the pages were stuck together. I don't like to let my rage levels dip too low you see.

Hate it beyond words. It actually makes me dread Christmas. And I quite like Christmas!

haveacupoftea · 19/11/2016 16:56

Actually i've just remembered the annoying HoF ad from a few years back with the models buying gifts for their fiancé/mum/chihuahua. This one is much better than that.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 19/11/2016 16:57

Cardigan catching door handles are the worst! Evil little twats.

The80sweregreat · 19/11/2016 17:01

My jeans belt hooks sometimes get caught on the door handle! ( god knows how) I cant imagine any of the cool dancers on this ad ever having these problems. They all hang out in swanky bars and have christmas parties at the Ivy.

Sniv · 19/11/2016 17:03

I like it. It's a bit of an odd choice for HoF because the aesthetics and vibe are obviously cribbed from music videos and stuff which are quite youth whereas HoF is really not, making it all seem a bit 'down with the kids'.

I'd rather have an advert that is just blandly and unashamedly about buying stuff, stuff, stuff, like this one, than a shop cynically trying to pretend they just really want me to love my family and be better person this year. Sainsbury's takes the cake this year, truly awful.

OrangeKitchen · 19/11/2016 17:19

I quite like last year's HOF ad - but I think that's because it reminded me of the Dirty Dancing soundtrack which I used to LOVE.

This one makes me angry, as a PP has said. However, I do get angry easily.

Not sure what ethnicity has got to do with it though - it's a shite, car crash of an advert, whatever the ethnicity of the actors.

It's CUTLERY, FFS. Not some up and coming pop star. Do they call them pop stars anymore? Don't know what the correct term is.

QueenOfTheNaps · 19/11/2016 17:27

Hmm HoF is a bit strange to me... not a fan of the music, NOT Christmassy at all.
On the other hand, I looooove the Amazon ad with the imam and vicar/priest. And the bears in the airport (though I've forgotten what that advert is actually for... very sweet though)

MillieMoodle · 19/11/2016 17:29

I hate it. It's bloody awful. So aggressive and trying too hard to be trendy and edgy. Hated last year's one from HoF too.

I like the John Lewis one, the Heathrow one (with the bears) and the Waitrose one.

HemanOrSheRa · 19/11/2016 17:32

I haven't seen it but I will take against anyway on account of HoF being robbing, useless fuckers. I love the Waitrose one with the brave robin. And the JL one.

mygorgeousmilo · 19/11/2016 17:33

It's dreadful! None of the other ones bother me, but HOF is so irritating. What was their objective??

RitaCrudgington · 19/11/2016 17:40

I'm white middle class 40-something and I shop at HOF all the time, but obviously they're not going to use someone who looks like me to model their medium-high end High St fashion - they use skinny gorgeous 20-somethings just like all the other shops aged at 40-somethings. Similarly M&S will use slim beautiful 30-somethings, in the hope that this will entice 50-somethings to buy their middle-ages gear and the adverts in the back of Radio Times selling clothes to obese 60-somethings show them on size 12 50-year-olds. This is how it has always been.

surferjet · 19/11/2016 17:43

Not being a hit with your average Mumsnetter is probably job done for the ad agency Grin
