MNRandom · 19/11/2016 14:54

£35.00 with £35.00 & over purchase of women's wear.

Each item averages at £1.40.

M&S claim the contents are valued at £250.00 which makes each item worth £10.00.

Sorry M&S, I don't believe you! Nail polishes (rubbish colours), nail file, v v v small serum etc.

I looked on the website and customers are giving it 5* Confused

Anyone else succumbed ?
What's your thoughts?
Which advent calendar would you splurge on?

The Liberty one looked great (much more pricey, but genuine valued items). Sold out though.

I bought one on impulse this week, despite all my misgivings about doing such a thing Blush
I'm toying with the idea of returning, giving it to someone as a Xmas present, attempting to sell it on Ebay, or keeping it for myself but using it in february which is a month I absolutely hate and need all the help for it I can get

WhereHaveYouGinAllMyLife · 19/11/2016 18:17

Ah I love mine. I had last years too and have since bought a few of the products from it that I liked. I had a sneak peak at the contents on the back and the only thing that I can't see getting used is the brow tamer gel stuff, I have very well behaved eyebrows Grin It's nice to have something to mess around with whilst I inhale my coffee when the littlest one drags me up at 5am.

PaulDacresConscience · 19/11/2016 18:53

I ummed and ahhed about buying the Liberty one for my sister as a present, as we hardly ever buy each other anything and she's had a shit couple of years and loves Liberty. Ended up being a moot point as they'd all sold out, but I may get one for her next year.

I pondered the M&S one but decided it would be better value to just buy the products I wanted.

Question about the Nuxe oil - does it transfer onto clothing at all? If I was to wear a white shirt or vest top would it leave greasy marks?

JemimaMuddledUp · 19/11/2016 19:03

I've got the Yankee Candle one. I had it last year and although it is the same four fragrances on rotation I like lighting one each evening and making time to relax.

I have also bought DD the Ciate nail varnish one this year, but she has promised I can borrow any colours I like.

LivingInMidnight · 19/11/2016 19:07

paul I've not noticed it transferring, but I rarely wear white so it could just be that I've not seen it...

I will attempt an experiment.

LivingInMidnight · 19/11/2016 19:13

I think if you make sure to rub the dry oil in you should be ok wearing white, from the small experiment I did with a sock and a tissue 😬

StrawberryLime · 19/11/2016 19:17

Massively misses point of thread but..... how the heck do you all know what's behind the doors to have an opinion on whether it's crap or not?!
You're not supposed to open advent calendars until December, and only then one door a day!
Jeez. Talk about sucking all the fun and anticipation out of them. Smile

Julju · 19/11/2016 19:26

I've bought it for myself as OH and I aren't doing Christmas pressies this year. I decided I actually like smaller sized product as a) they're great for overnight bags she B) if I splurge £35+ on one thing quite often I won't run out of it before the date it needs using to, with the exception of 1 or 2 favourite products but I like trying new things out

MadisonMontgomery · 19/11/2016 19:40

I thought about it - I really wanted an advent calendar this year and looked at all the beauty ones, then realised that for the amount of products I actually liked any of them would be a waste of money. And I really don't know how they get away with saying they're worth daft amounts!

RortyCrankle · 19/11/2016 19:43

I wouldn't say no to this one : www.amazon.co.uk/Drinks-Dram-Walnut-Whisky-Calendar/dp/B01LF9289U but at 5p under £10,000 I can dream Grin

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 19/11/2016 19:51

Ah I love an advent calendar, I bought the No7 one the day it came out, it's been sold out online for weeks, ds1 has the Smiggle calendar and DS2 has the Lush one. I know they are expensive but the dc spend alternate Christmases with me and exh and this year they are with him. So as I won't see them from 16th to 27th December I'm trying to make the run up something nice that we can share together. And I take the costs from the Christmas present budget :)

I like the no7 one, I used pretty much everything from last year and am still using an eye serum and eye pencil from it.

Flatbox · 19/11/2016 20:27

I read about a gin one and really fancied ut but it was £125. How many litres of gin could I buy with that?

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2016 20:35

I also want the ginvent one but I don't want to pay £125 for what is effectively one bottle of gin. I might pay £50 because you do get some interesting gins, but not full price.

I normally buy my gin abroad at £5-10 a litre in the canaries, Gibraltar or mallorca airports.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 19/11/2016 20:41

I sometimes have an advent calendar (think I bought myself one last year on December 2nd for half price Wink) - a nice 3-d one with a nativity scene and glitter. I'd think there was something wrong with me if I got over excited about a little treat every day like a child.

Dexterjamesmummy · 19/11/2016 20:43

I've bought my mum the Liberty one for her birthday on Monday, she'd never ever buy herself the products in it, thought it would be nice for her to have some luxury products for a change! Really hoping she likes it. I've not opened any of the drawers but the box does look impressive, it's massive and very pretty looking.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 19/11/2016 20:45

I have the No7 one too, had it last year and there were only 2 products I didn't like. 6 full size products and it's all stuff I like and use. Well worth £39.

I looked at the M & S one before as people had raved about it and there was loads in there I wouldn't use. Total waste tbh. And I don't like that they want you to spend £35 before you can buy it.

SquinkiesRule · 19/11/2016 21:31

I was looking at the Aldi one, I think Dd will love it next year, all skincare stuff for £9.99

SquinkiesRule · 19/11/2016 21:32

If you look on the back of most advent calendars they list whats in there

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 19/11/2016 21:39

I have the Liberty advent calendar. How much are they selling on eBAy for?

IvorHughJarrs · 19/11/2016 21:49

I have a Look Fantastic one waiting for Dec 1st. I looked at that, You Beauty and M&S but picked this one, hope I'm right

Last year I bought Clarins and it was utter rubbish. 1 product that was full size and 23 that were the little free samples you could ask for at the counters. I hope they have put in some bigger things this year as notice it has gone up from £60 to £90. I won't be buying it again though

HemanOrSheRa · 19/11/2016 21:59

The LF one is good Ivor. I've been opening mine through this month and only had one thing I wasn't sure about. That was due to the colour rather than the quality. Anyway, it has a little extra that makes it OK Wink.

Dexterjamesmummy · 19/11/2016 21:59

The Liberty ones are going on ebay for between £220 to £300

SapphireSeptember · 19/11/2016 22:00

I want the Ciate one and the NYX one, but can't afford either! I'm going to get myself two lipsticks from MAC's Nutcracker Sweet collection instead. They have a matte dark purple and a matte bright pink that are stunning!

limitedperiodonly · 19/11/2016 22:02

PaulDacresConscience Glitter transfer onto white collar was another of DH's whinges about Nuxe. I'd have thought about that - you know how you avoid using foundation on your neck? He did use an awful lot.

MNRandom · 19/11/2016 22:06

'Looks adoringly at Sapphire'

You must have a stunning mouth/lips to wear bright matt lipstick! Good for you, rock it big.
