To be disappointed with M&S Advent Calendar!

£35.00 with £35.00 & over purchase of women's wear.

Each item averages at £1.40.

M&S claim the contents are valued at £250.00 which makes each item worth £10.00.

Sorry M&S, I don't believe you! Nail polishes (rubbish colours), nail file, v v v small serum etc.

I looked on the website and customers are giving it 5* Confused

Anyone else succumbed ?
What's your thoughts?
Which advent calendar would you splurge on?

The Liberty one looked great (much more pricey, but genuine valued items). Sold out though.

Thanks for that post Scurius perhaps all will be well

And please don't feel a need to apologise Random as it is totally my own fault for being silly enough to buy one. I read about them on here last year, and fancied giving it a go this year. Ho hum - I am quite easily pleased though as don't get out much!

Because - yes - it would be nice to be like a 3 year old and have a surprise every day even though I'm a good 50 years old older.

pastapestoparmesan · 19/11/2016 16:49

I have a lego city advent calendar possibly misses point of thread Grin

I walk past Liberty most days MNRandom so I agree with you. I would never buy luxury beauty products for myself but people know I love them.

I got a fantastic tube of Nuxe moisturising gunk that is meant for anywhere that needs it in a sale at work - we get lots of beauty goodies.

My husband, who has even scalier skin than me, uses it most often because it's so rich. It looks like dark honey earwax and smells faintly piney/lavendery. A petit pois-sized blob revives my hands. He needs two marrowfat peas' worth.

There was the dark winter morning that he rubbed my Nuxe oil into his face and left for work. He came home complaining that everyone had ridiculed him for wearing make up, like it was my fault. He hadn't noticed the slight gold shimmer. I told him that was why I reserved it for a smear on my arms and legs when I have a tan rather than thinking: 'Oh, this looks nice, wonder why she doesn't use it much?' and rubbing a tablespoon into my face Grin

PinkPoppy It isn't a £70 spend.

Copy & pasted from M&S website:-

'BEAUTY ADVENT CALENDAR
New Only £35 when you spend £35 on clothing, beauty and home'

Pasta - DS has got a Lego City one and I don't know who gets more excited about it, him or DH!

MNRandom · 19/11/2016 16:55

Oups Pinkpoppy did you mean in total Blush

I didn't buy it this year. I did get asos and youbeauty alongside some stationery one and a wax melt one though

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 19/11/2016 16:59

It isn't a £70 spend if you take back the other items the next day...

Who? Me?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 19/11/2016 17:00

And those of you thinking you'll get a no7 one instead, good luck! They sell out almost immediately every year.

AChristmasCactus · 19/11/2016 17:02

YANBU. The advent calendars are worse than beauty subscription boxes. For every one thing you'll use, you get three or four sample size products in weird colours or that won't work with your skin.

No point unless you're rich and can afford to waste cash on stuff you won't use or like.

MNRandom · 19/11/2016 17:04

ATruth' that is such a good idea! Naughty, but good Wink

LilacLily Nuxe dry oil is a lovely light moisturising oil that can be used anywhere depending on your skin. A little goes a long way - unless it's the one with shimmer and you're my husband and rub it all over your face. That's not a good idea Grin.

The cheapskate in me buys cheaper products and waits until it's on sale or to be given it. But it is very nice and has a beautiful smell.

TheCompanyOfCats · 19/11/2016 17:11

Just be grateful that you got one.

There's no M&S near me and you can't buy them online.

Lilaclily · 19/11/2016 17:11

Thanks limited !

LivingInMidnight · 19/11/2016 17:14

limited Grin how did he not notice the shimmer?

I use the dry oil in my face, body and hair when I fancy it. It smells lovely and moisturises well. I'm asking for the hand cream for Christmas now Grin

FinderofNeedles
I bought my DD an advent calendar which comprises tiny books which tell the story of The Nutcracker. It's been brought out every year for the past 23 years, and this year will be no different.

We have one of these (I wonder if it's the same one) as well as one which tells the story of the Nativity in 24 little books. They too, come out every year along with the 50000 several other advent calendars I have collected over the last 30 odd years.
I have actually treated myself to the L'occitane calendar as I love their stuff and will use everything whereas I wouldn't use a lot of the make up items in some of the other calendars. I've also bought one to give to dil as an early gift for her December birthday. Hope she loves it as much as I will.

MUjunkie · 19/11/2016 17:29

Annaanaconda if you hold out until January all the soap and glory sets are half price or less! I got some right bargains the last 2 years lol

MUjunkie · 19/11/2016 17:30

And yea the charlotte tilbury one is soooo pretty but not a prayer at that price 😳

Babyroobs · 19/11/2016 17:32

Nothing to do with M&S but I just bought a lovely advent calender from my local factory shop, one of those that you fill yourself !! It had £30 on the original label but I got it for £3 bargain as it's a slight second.

MrsHathaway · 19/11/2016 17:38

It just seems like a combination of rampant consumerism and infantilising grown women. And kind of the opposite of what Christmas should be about as an adult, which to me is more about giving, family and community.

I have sympathy for this position.

But I've kept last year's boxes (mine was a gift) and will be using them as the advent calendar for my three DC with a mixture of chocolates, outings and other treats no doubt at least one day will be "go out hunting Pokemon" which I usually try to wriggle out of so it does good in the end.

HemanOrSheRa · 19/11/2016 17:38

Aw no. I'm definitely on the naughty list. I bought the Look Fantastic one and started opening it on 1st November Grin. I've bought an M&S one to open in December. I've got 2 DSD's and 8 nieces who will help me out with anything I don't like/want.

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 19/11/2016 17:46

People on the MrsGloss FB rave about the M&S calendar, I nearly got sucked in until I found out prior to release what was in it. Nothing I need or even want.

Last year I had a Yankee candle one, not that great as it was the same few tea lights repeated throughout. Lesson learnt I bought a Malteaser one this year, at least I'll be getting things I like albeit in minuscule amounts. Guessing I'll never grow out of advent calendars at 44 as they remind me of my childhood sentimental old bag that I am Grin

MNRandom · 19/11/2016 17:58

Heff' nothing wrong with being a sentimental old bag! That makes two of us Grin

OP posts:
LivingInMidnight · 19/11/2016 18:05

HeffalumpsnWoozles (I love your name) I was hoping I had misread the Yankee box because it did seem like the same ones repeated several times.

limitedperiodonly · 19/11/2016 18:08

It was a dark winter morning with no natural light in the bathroom and he fancied a pick-me-up LivingInMidnight.
